Re-watching Art Dudley videos. I didn’t know him. I’m not a stereophile. I subscribed because I loved his writing. Maybe the best reviewer ever. Rest In Peace.
R.I.P. Art Dudley. Great reviewer. Beautiful soul.
“Music sounds good.”
Indeed. Rest In Peace, Art.

Holy crap! A Stereophile staffer with a clean home- they do exist!
Better to have a messy house, just in case.
I've been a fan of Art's writing since Hi-Fi Heretic and Listener. He's gone away from the single ended triode amp/single driver loudspeaker but I'll always be grateful for him steering me in that direction as it's given me a great deal of listening pleasure. R.I.P. Wilmer Furman!
Love the humor! Thanks for the entertainment, and may you have great listening ahead!
Nice to see your new multiuse room Art! I like these videos, it adds a new dimensión to 'reading reviews only' from the past. Keep doing this. I hope I won't have to wait six months for the next one. 😄
Art Dudley...I came here because I live about 10 miles from the famous Thorens TD 124-store of Schopper Switzerland. Art praised this TD124 years ago. First I realized: Oh, same raincoat-yellow as I have..Then: Oh, same green colour on the wall...Then: Oh, same green on the plinth of the TD124 (I sold my one to Mr. Schopper)...Then: Oh, he saved a turtle from the road (as I did in Southafrica)...then he mentioned his Sony SACD 777 (I still have a X333ES) but most of all: He seems so humble, with a good sense of humour, open for most kinds of music as I would like to be. Great human being, R.I.P.!
What a fabulous video...wish you guys did more of these.
Thank you Art. I've been a huge fan of your work since you started with Stereophile. Well My dearest friend in the world and I have been fans. Many new him as MuzikMike, you and I new him as Michael Peshkin. We spent tens of thousands of hours enjoying music playback as we perused your articles and discussed each topic together. Then when he started writing for you in Listener, it was like a dream come true. That opportunity meant so much to him and I was so proud of him and grateful to you for bringing him such joy. I just now stumbled upon this video but I have to say it makes me so happy to see your face and though we've never met, it's like having an old friend talking to me. I still see Mike every day in the faces of people whose lives he's touched and those who have touched his. These faces and moments are so important now as he is gone.Thank you for this posting, take care and I wish you many happy years of music enjoyment to come. Oh I'm the guy with the prototype Monolith turntable from Mapleknoll Audio. That Mike mentioned.
RIP Art and thanks for all you gave us !
Great video Art. Feel like i have met you now. Loved Listener mag and love your Stereophile column. Enjoy life!
Rest in Peace, Art..missing You..
Always pleasing hearing you talk, it's a relaxing voice. I like your approach to your system, and congrats on your new old house! Cheers.
I still miss Art...so humble.
What a pleasant experience both in regard to the audio and video . Best of luck in your new home and I would like very much to hear more about your experience with the Devore’s.
Supa shindos!!! Lovely layers and textures of sanguine audio joy, lovely firmness to your bottom end no doubt due to your 301 ,much pleasure may it long give you Thankyou
what a delightful human being being
phenomenal sound
What a truly lovely man. RIP.
What a nice video! I bought my first house in Dayton OH. It was built in 1935 and had the same windows on the wall with the fireplace.
I recommend green for the walls, about as dark as the blue is on the video.
Art and Herb seem to be from foreign planets, but I love them. Dog bloopers are always welcome.
Happened upon this video by chance - I had heard Art was very well thought of and admired - now I know why
It is really Sound Reproduction in which Ken Shindo had made. Thank you Art Dudley!
Super cool video, especially now, few days after sad news.
Thanks for inviting us over Art. Love the new home. More European in size. Are you thinking of using any room treatments? Seems a bit echoey right now.
Nice system.wish I could hear it in real life, but binaural was cool!
just amazing system
Nice video...I always enjoy Art and Herb. I think the living room color is good, compliments the wood tones in the room. :)
I agree.
Yeah....for a Smurf!
Whoever painted those bricks should be tarred and feathered :-(
It's great seeing these weirdos in their natural habitats.
Thank you Jana, you're doing gods work
Ridiculous comment
Nothing weird about enjoying audio
Great comment. I think they'd be the first to concede they're (lovable) weirdos.
great sound,Art
Freewheeling (1988) is a Rounder release available on vinyl. 40 yrs. in the fireplace business and there is another one mucking up the sound, especially the corbel and white paint! (It sounds very nice indeed). I think you may get a tie with with Herb and the Joseph's.
Sherwin Williams Wool Skein Eggshell is an excellent calming color!
Sherwin Williams - “ Rope “is a great paint choice, it is a nice earth tone
nice video. thank you.
Godspeed Art!!!
Brilliant
Hello Art
When I saw the Speakers I gasped (happily and excitedly) and thought wow a pair of Audionote AN-E SPE HE's ....
The Devore is fast and gets you up.
Any thoughts on the Audionote's (because I am about to order one)
Thanks and appreciate it.
This yellow jacket must look great in this strange colour blue walls of this pretty house.
8:34 - Art's Brick Moment - "I love lamp."
Room of my dream
You missed a couple things in your system tour. What are those 2 boxes in the center shelf that look like they have interconnects hooked up to them and also what is the make of that beautiful audio rack ???
I have always wondered how one of these high end systems might sound. This was an interesting but odd way to experience that. Even though I was listening on a highly resolving headphone system it sounded like it was recorded in a barrel. Still quite cool though. I'd love to hear it in person tho. And the dog too. Quite a feisty one there!
Pretty Awesome
A bit late to this video--very nice listening room. If I might suggest a diffusion panel to plug -up the hole in your fireplace. It need not be permanent--just a panel when you are listening. I like the color...better than a yellowish white.
15:10 The drum came in sounds amazing.
I have a Harmon Kardon PM665 VXI with a Marantz CD player, and a Technics SL-Q2 turntable with a Signet TK1E cartridge, all hooked up to a pair of Klipsch KG4 speakers. Is that a good setup?
I could not agree more
So sad I will miss you Art
I wish I was your neighbor. We would have AWESOME jam sessions. On your system of course. Nice crib
Good job Dudley. Dudley do no wrong.
Dudley do right
Where are the rabbits ?
rest in peace
Art how do you listen with your little ear phones? Cheers Joe
I'm afraid he's passed away...
I couldn't help notice, but the rear ported speakers seem boomy.
It also seems that there is a New York bias creeping into your content.
Albany isn’t that far away for me ...
RIP Art
The colors of the rooms are very nice. Don't change it.
"...old and in the way, that's what I heard them say..."
Is this o/96 speaker?
No Sir, they are the O/93
I think the color is charming.
It reminds me of children's hospital decor.
I wonder what the recording was all about? Why were you recording this and why the headphones?
Art must be sort of guy who dances on the inside. Me too.
The good die young. ..
The sennheiser mikes do not do justice to Art's system. All reviews find them uneven. I did not like the sound.
Are you sure it wasn't the untreated room or the far-field listening position with all room reflections intact? I'm normally not "that guy" but I found it just a little disconcerting.
rorybz : I cannot be sure of course but since I have done a bunch of binaural recordings I can say with good mikes a musical event should sound very natural. I must say though John Atkinsons binaural recording in almost near field sounded much smoother so maybe we are hearing room effects. But have a listen to clavinetjunkie youtube review of the senn mikes.
Why the still frame?
Studio version sounds much better, more fuller with better low end.
Sounds like my tablet
16:44 Not good for dog's spine to hold it in that position for so long.
Wes Anderson through and through
Sorry for Art, he couldn't enjoy his well deserved time with his new listening room, house and neighbourhood.
" A lot of noises in the power"... Madness!
I do not know why I cannot sit still when listening to music. I feel like it is a waste of my time, I have to do something.
Even with a lapel microphone I can hear the echoey room tone. Your electronics stuff doesn't "break in" over time, it's your ears getting used to the poor acoustics. Art, you'd really benefit from even just a few well-placed acoustic panels. Add some bass traps and you'll hear your system sing as never before.
capacitors do change sound over the time. But transformers, I am hearing it for the first time.
I doubt that competent capacitors change enough over time to hear a difference. What's really changing is more likely your perception. What specifically would you think changes in a capacitor anyway? Its dielectric absorption? Its capacitance value? What exactly?
Hi Ethan you really know a lot of stuff.
Good when you have ear wax, will sound warmer and muffled
Does sound a tad bright in that room
@@ralex3697...The room is too small to not have some fabrics or
rugs to knock down the reverb.
Those walls have a lot of bounce.
Michael Celani..Modern Audio. Consul.
I can’t sit still when I play my records, bouncing around, singing, air guitar, air bass, and air drums
This guy is a programmed alien robot sitting there so lifeless
Yes I know it is Art Dudley, but very strange
He has to sit stationary else the "in ear" binaural mics will move.
rooms screams for corner horns
whatsw with the noise on the recordings , there is a hiss to it , last 2 songs , dont know if all . That noise would freak me out , maybe its tubes if its tube amp
Couldn’t possibly be a recording or something else ...
I must admit, initially I considered the music selections to be garbled garbage. Then I realized that I was listening in playback speed 150% because typically there is no music in these videos only information. I am inclined to take on information at fifty percent higher rates because, you know, more information in less time still gets processed. I'm basically a human DAC.
-✌🏼
The cables you’re switching between sound the same. Power treatment doesnt do anything.
Geez, no room treatment !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stereophile music is kind of showroom music
Please don't describe the in ear microphones as binaural they are not. binaural listening is only possible because of the fixed phase relationship of the two signals. Those headphones wobble and move on the ear, the Neuman dummy head is true binaural. For binaural recordings the phase delay between ears is in the order of 0.01 ms. But in order to preserve geometry of hearing to be able to hear phase differentials in the X Y Z axis means that the two points must not alter their relationship by 0.0001 ms
But they're a good compromise. It's surprising how well our brains can adjust to this setup.
Works well as a video of a space in time, but as a profile it hurts the man unfortunately. Apparently he's perfectly fine spending plenty of money on gear and nothing on the room. That's just silly, and renders all of the rest of this suspect and/or a waste of time if you're looking for a short cut to better sound.
gay....
