Disclaimer : We receive a ton of emails and messages from people telling us we filmed them at the ramp this past weekend and they want to know when the video will air. This is not a question we can typically answer. We film from three or more ramps every week and have a massive back log of content and sometime it could be weeks or months after an event occurs before we air the video. We put stuff out as fast as we can but we only air three videos a week and in a typical weekend get 6-10 episodes worth of content meaning we get content faster then we can air it. The only time Larson boy wasn't out of control was when he stopped using the controls. And his 'helper' was just as bad, he had the bow of the boat touching the dock right in front of him and didn't even try to do anything; jeezus, what a cluster f*ck pair they are.
The Larson really shouldn't have those foam mats rolled up on yhe bow. They should have been wrapped around the boat to protect it.
The amount of people who get off the boat with the untied line in their hand is amazing.
What I would do if I was the guy in the Larson is give up boating all together! LOL WOW!

This is why I 100% support a proper boating license including a driving test, competency test, etc.
Little kids need a license to have a little lemonade stand but this guy can go buy a boat of that magnitude go out on the water and damage property and endanger people's lives and it requires no license 🤔
I think an IQ test should be way up the list! At the very least, it should clear up a lot of the congestion at this ramp.

I can see having a boater safety course but we already have enough laws and fees in this country. For that reason I oppose boating licensing requirements. Just take a class and a boating lesson on your own dime.
The Ocean is the test, you fail, you drown. In this case the wind was the test, he failed. There is not much a pilot test could do for lack of common sense and the ability to critically think. He did not even realize the wind was trying to put him on the correct windward dock, that never crossed his mind. All the pilot was thinking was the lee dock which in all cases is the wrong choice. That and the crew jumped of the boat without attaching the line to the craft. 'face palm' moment.
Dang, if it took him that long to dock it, I wonder how long it took them to load onto the trailer!! We need that video too PLEASE.

I am 70 years old, and I have never driven a boat. I have been a passenger exactly twice since 1964. I still think that I could have done a better job than the Larson captain.

I remember being single digits and Dad had a 17' sailboat. The whole family learned to tie knots, handle the dinghy, learn basic sailing, and had a lot of fun with it.
I'm mid-sixties now and not sure I'd do any better. But jumping off the boat with an unsecured line was a dumb-dumb move. Indeed, the thing that impresses me most is boats coming in and people being totally unprepared to do anything to get secured to that dock. It seems to come as a total surprise what! who! me! that they need to do something besides drink another beer.
I see Cuba is sending us their best boaters.

I am amazed at the lack of preparation to dock. No ropes, no bumpers! It is difficult but it helps to be prepared.

Lines and fenders are the most basic of equipment. That should not be difficult.
I guess don’t have to worry about it. I experienced the second best day of boat ownership which is when you sell it! To everyone, find something else to point out our than my mistaken description!

Rule numbers 1-10. Always prep your boat prior to pulling into the dock. Here's a hint: having lines ready to go is a great place to start! If you know you lack the skills to easily and safely dock your boat, get some fenders out. The next owner will appreciate it once you realize you have no business boating and sell your boat to someone who deserves it.

The best part is while he’s having the argument the boat is floating nicely toward the dock on the opposite side.
And then because he is totally oblivious to that, all hell broke loose!! LOLOL!!!
When his crew stepped off the boat just kinda holding the wrapped dockline that wasn't attached to anything... *headdesk* When I sailed regularly, we had such a process coming into the dock - lines tied and draped over the lifelines, fenders deployed, everyone knowing what their job was. Come into the dock, step off the boat, wrap the lines on the dock cleats and done. Easy, easy!
1st rule of boating: Never bring a boat into a dock any faster than you are willing to crash. 2nd rule of boating: keep your damn feet off the varnish!
I've been told sailors and motorboaters are two entirely different breeds. The former being about learning, skill, and proficiency, the latter about a drink in one hand and the throttle in the other.
Here we see a clear example of the latter.
Jet Ski guy was clearly in the wrong, but how much did Larson have to drink? The officer should be administering a breathalizer and the other captain should be filing an accident report.

A lot of time, the jet ski people just do what they want and have no skills to understand the dangers they put everyone in. On the flip side, I have seen skilled jet ski people push guys like this like a pilot boat. If you spend much time in the water, you will see all kinds..... LoL!

The "captain" of the Larson gave the officer a lot of probable cause to check for sobriety. I know it's challenging to dock with winds and currents, but still, with that amount of failing and striking the dock and other vessels, the "captain" needed to be checked. It definitely looked like more than frustration was at play.

We have a boat ramp at the bottom of our street and a whole Sunday afternoon's entertainment can occur with a coffee or beer and a comfortable chair .
I swear this ramp has an IQ pole that you have to walk under to use it.

Golden rule to all my fellow skippers out there - always give any boat with a skull and crossbones flag, a VERY wide berth.

Never ran one but that Larson looks prettier nimble and responsive for the size. That docking debacle was painful.
That was brutal to watch, the officer has to be wondering if he's intoxicated. God Bless
best way to dock in the wind, 1: Attach long bow line and go the the stern. 2: Cap reverses boat stern to dock 3: deck hand jumps off the stern and attaches bow line to dock at a forward stanchion. allowing for a little slack. 4: with bow attached, cap turns wheel (in this case) maximum starboard and reverses slowly. 5: the bowline acts as a fulcrum allowing the stern to fold into the dock. 6: tie off stern line and there you have it.

I live near here and boat these waters.... every time I see a boat with flags like that I steer clear. Not sure why, but it just seems like those flag boats are always the ones that ignore the rules of the water, crash their boats into various item - docks, the seabed, other boats. Oh, these are typically the ones throwing trash overboard too.
Not just the flags, but the music speakers hanging. Most of the problems we have are jet skis, pontoon rentals and these boats with the high aluminum racks for speakers and wake boards.
Living in Miami is a challenge and this video shows why. No difference when they drive on the roads. Can’t wait to say goodbye to south Florida.
The guy ( actually , both of them ) with the Larson need to anchor it off shore and swim in. It would be the quickest way for them to get on dry land to leave. He could of put the wind to use and drifted in on #3 if he did it right. Let the wind work for you , not against you.

Jumping on the dock with the rope not tied to the boat is unbelievable.
That’s the reason we have our heads screwed on.😂
A good technique when docking against the current is to come in head first and get the bow line tied to the dock, allowing the stern to then swing out and weathervane. Then, with the bow line secured, turn the motor towards the dock and gently reverse idle. This will swing the rear end into the dock and your mate can secure the stern line.
Like my daddy taught me, go “slow like a pro”.
I’m always so confused why people don’t use the wind, even when strong to their advantage. It’s like an extra throttle if you know how to let it take your vessel in the right direction.
Thats what I was thinking. Why not use the dock on his port side and use the wind to drift to the dock

My great uncle did that with his 90' Swan. He had a hilariously odd way to getting into the dock. He'd pass the dock, point it with the stern towards the mouth of the dock and rev the engines in reverse hard for about 2 seconds. Then he'd let the current just push him straight in. It was shocking to see it all work out when you're on the yacht because it didn't look like it could possibly work. But he got it in after only two attempts. Just two attempts. And the wind kept changing direction like crazy. The dock he moors in is Apollo Beach.
Captain should have tied a dock line to the starboard bow cleat then let his dock hand off at the dock from the bow then have him tie up to the dock cleat quickly then turn the drive into the dock in reverse and it will pull the back of the boat into the dock and then captain could leave the helm and wrap the rope around the dock cleat. That's how to dock against the wind easy and works every time!!!

Can't say the wave runner folks "snaked in" to launch. Larson wasn't close to being docked at that point and they probably thought, geez, we could be here all day waiting for this clown. Video like this shows why the boat ramp is such an amazing way to see what level of brain power your fellow citizens have.

I came for the comments. This is one of the best examples of a person that should not be behind the wheel. It blows my mind how so many people do not prepare their boat before they come in to the dock area. (1) fenders out, (2) lines attached and ready, (3) instructions to the other person before coming in, (4) use the wind to decide where to best dock, (5) I was told early on “ass first” to the dock to unload the guy and tie the back cleat first and that’s worked for me. Fenders cost less than boat damage. Amazing footage

I know right. All he had to do was get somewhat parallel to that dock and the wind would have pushed him gently into it. He committed to the dock number 2 after yelling at the jet ski guy. He knew he'd look like an idiot if he didn't end up parking there.

You don't just try to struggle at the dock if it doesn't go as planned. You do a go around. Back out and do the approach again. If that doesn't work learn from the conditions, go around, and replan. Trying to correct the mistakes that close never goes right. Gear in gear out and if the wind is killing you more gear in than gear out but never above idle. Always plan for the wind.

I don't think I ever see anyone using lines to pivot around the end of docks or pilings for tight maneuvering or bad cross current/wind. He has crew on the dock. He several times got the starboard side to the end of the pier. Tie off to the mid ship cleat, run the line 1 - 2 piles up and half hitch it. Bump the boat in and out of gear to pivot to the leeward side of the dock. Cut hard to port and bump in and out of gear to kick the stern over while the movement forward on the dock line will draw the boat in perfectly. Tie off the bow and stern, and boom! Perfect landing!

The Larson is like a giant cork bobbing and getting blown everywhere, that boat handles differently even in calm conditions. Cap needs to practice especially in windy conditions with currents.

If the captain had let the wind push him up against the dock on his port side, he wouldnt even need to tie off the boat. The wind would hold him there. And dont let your passenger step off the boat without the line tied to the boat.
