  • He left UK to Build Nigeria's Most Beautiful Beach is another episode of my promoting Africa series where I feature black entrepreneurs all across Africa who have built successful businesses and they tell us how they did it.
Today's episode is Mr Paul who is a Nigerian entrepreneur who left London in the UK to start a beach & Lifestyle business in Nigeria. He has also built one of the biggest real estate beach fronts in West Africa. He tells us about how he was able to build his business in Lagos, Nigeria and some of the challenges he has faced on his entrepreneurial journey.

I dont understand why some Nigerians always have nothing but negative things to say. You guys dont realise what an amazing country you have. If I continued to watch western media, I would have missed out on all this. The agency you see in West Africa esp. Ghana and Nigeria is because a certain group of educated individuals in Ghana formed The Aborigines Rights Protection Association that fought hard to keep the lands out of the hands of the European powers including travelling to and arguing their case in the British Parliament and WINNING. Your ancestors did you in. They were too soft. Those lands were just taken without compensation. That's why you the current youth must not do the same mistake. Take what belongs to you. Right the wrong and don't give a fvck! about what anyone says. A wise man leaves an inheritance for his children and children's children. Don't fail the next generation. In Ghana people even take the government to court to take back lands earmarked as government land but been left unused.

@@somewhereinafrica7350 True and encouraging. What makes it more unfortunate for SA and maybe some parts of the SADC region is the level and quality of education, it does not speak to the identity of the region and thus mutes any opportunity to develop pride and ownership.
The next generation of politics is taking that stance. It's just unfortunate that the majority of youth is just occupied by social trends to fall behind the movement with support. I am just hoping everyone else shines and thrives so we can use them as case studies and examples.

Strategic move. You can do a lot remotely and while visiting before making the permanent move.
First, try to have a small property. At least, you know you've knocked out house rent for life.
Second, even if you don't have a business idea yet, register a generic name business idea. Your future biz idea names will be under the generic name.
Third, open at least 3 biz bank accounts and know your bank relationship managers personally. GTB, Zenith, and First Bank are recommended. Their processes are easy. You don't need those relationship managers now but, you may need them in the future when you want to grow your ideas.
Even if you have not executed anything through your company, at least years of the establishment will be running. Maybe you return in 10 years' time, you can boldly say your company has been existing for 10 years. You need that numbers for value and trust. Nobody easily entrusts big loans or contract into the hands of a 6-month old startup.
Lastly, if you think your ideas may spread throughout Africa, in your free time, start building networks with other Africans living around you and study more about their countries especially Kenya & SA. Kenya is a good base to hit the East Africa market. South Africa to hit the Southern Africa market.

I remember when Tayo recently came back from South Africa, he made a comparison in one of his video about the untapped tourism potentials in Nigeria.
Nigeria is gradually developing, this is not to compare but the Nigerian properties are owned and developed by Black/Nigerians which makes it even more unique considering the cliché that Black nations are a total fiasco.
Nigeria will gradually become a first world country with the new talents that are coming up. We're making mistakes and learning new things.

Silly jab at SA blacks - There are many black architects is SA doing incredible things. They are learning from their white counterparts about how to design and build world-class buildings and cities; something Nigerians could learn a lot from considering the unimaginative boxes they are constructing.
Also, many projects in Nigeria are not constructed and financed by locals; EKO Atlantic, The rail projects and many others are thanks to the efforts and expertise of foreigners. At least SAs (of all colour) developed their own sh@t and despite their differences, unite under their flag.
