      Good luck. Where will you be delivering? I hope you get an easy route. That is one thing Amazon should do. Your first few routes should be easy, but unfortunately, it is luck of the draw. The other Amazon flex people will usually help a new person because they have been there. Don’t be worried about asking them. 😀. Good luck, let me know how it goes!!

    • @SideGigGuy
      @SideGigGuy  Před rokem +5

      Not a stupid question at all. It depends on the warehouse. For the last year at vga2, you just scanned one package, and the lot was yours. I figured after a year, all warehouses would be the same. But here in Pensacola, FL, you still have to scan each package, individually, when you pick up at warehouse. (My car was half loaded before I realized it) it’s a big pain so just watch the app, it will say which.

    • @SideGigGuy
      @SideGigGuy  Před 10 měsíci

      It does depend because Amazon tries to plan your route, so it computes distances. If you drive a long way from the warehouse, let’s say to Vining’s, that travel time is taken into consideration.
      My experience is about 10 packages per hour can be delivered pretty easy if the are houses or non gated apartments. Downtown and midtown routes slow you down, but you have no say in what you get.
      Sometimes it’s frustrating, but most times it is easy. If I get 30 packages in a 3.5 hour block, usually finish early.

Unfortunately the closest building to me is about 40 mins away but I see a lot of $100-$120 block’s available when I look so doing those would be worth the drive there and back home for me. Are we allowed to track miles to the warehouse and back home or only on our deliveries?

    • @SideGigGuy
      @SideGigGuy  Před 9 měsíci

      I am not a CPA. But I have read the mileage deduction rules very carefully. And I feel the answer is no, just like you can’t claim mileage driving to a w2 job.
      The rules state that if you do not have a regular office, or if your work starts at a different location each day, then you start counting your mileage when you arrive.
      Now, that being said, that is how you answer the question if audited by the IRS. They have no way of knowing that you might have been doordashing or something else.
      The IRS will only get suspicious if your mileage deduction is more than you are actually making. Fortunately for me, I’m very close to my first work stops.
      Good luck

    Great video. I'm signed up for Flex but haven't started my first job yet. There are a couple of locations close to my house but I never see those come up. One is like five minutes and the other ten minutes. The only ones I normally see are about half an hour away. But I've read terrible views on that location. Would you know why I never see the ones close to where I live? Should I take those unwanted jobs in order to move up? How do I get to Level 2? Thanks

    • @SideGigGuy
      @SideGigGuy  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The level system can be a challenge, and usually only the people who do flex regularly for more days a week, can climb it successfully. It’s because sometimes you get dinged when you didn’t do anything wrong. And while the dings are relatively minor, if you don’t have a lot of really good work, it’s hard to keep advancing.
      As for why the warehouse is close to you aren’t showing routes, the best thing I can suggest is to look at different times of the day on your app. From 3 AM to 9 AM was about the only time I could grab routes at my preferred station. so try some unusual times like very early mid afternoon and into the evening and see if it changes.
      Good luck. And honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much about the level system. Because even once I had excelled to the higher levels and had preferred scheduling, it was still difficult to get routes that I wanted for the pay I wanted.
      Lastly, my first route was my hardest psychologically. Once I’d actually done it the job seems pretty easy. But it’s a little scary and intimidating. Your first time in because you don’t know what to do. But just walk in and look for an employee and just tell me your first day, you’ve never done this before. They should be helpful hopefully

    • @SideGigGuy
      @SideGigGuy  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thanks for the comment. So, after you pick up your packages, depending on the station they are all different, you will either have to scan one package and then they all appear, or you have to scan each package individually before you leave.
      Regardless of the process, once you are ready to leave, you can use the app to access your itinerary by clicking on the three lines (hamburger stack).
      Click on itinerary, and then you should see a list of all your packages. If it’s a short list, you can just scroll and number without scanning the packages. Just match address.
      The drop number should be on the left. And then in the video, I demonstrate the scanning process to find the drop number. If you have more than 10 items, scanning is faster.
      I’ve found that if I put the first five in the front seat, and then the next 10 from drivers side to passenger seat in the back, and if there is more, in the trunk or hatch back.
      Congratulations on your first run. Look forward to what they call “scan and go” where there are no packages to deliver, but you still get paid. It’s like a party each time.

      At some warehouses, you still need to scan every package before you even start delivering. If that is your case, then no. The itinerary isn’t populated until you scan them all first. I should have made that clear. Eventually, all routes at all warehouse will just require one scan to load all packages into the itinerary. My bad.

      If a dog is off the leash, I might try to call or text the customer. But if that isn’t an option, you just return to warehouse and say it wasn’t safe to make delivery.
