  • Beautiful rendition by Concordia Publishing House Anglican Hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" (German: "Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott") is one of the best known hymns by the reformer Martin Luther, a prolific hymnodist. Luther wrote the words and composed the melody sometime between 1527 and 1529. It has been translated into English at least seventy times and also into many other languages. The words are a paraphrase of Psalm 46.

The powerful syncopation creates the tension of the Christian struggle in every day life, a struggle where we have the victory in Jesus. We are embraced by a God whose will is to unite ALL things in Christ.

Ah...this is the REAL Lutheran translation...not the "Bulwark" wash the Methodists think it should be. Thank you!! This Battlehymn of the Reformation is my favorite hymn of all.

Anglican hymn??? written by Martin Luther? Uh, no. It's a Lutheran hymn, or if you are in Germany, Evangelische. The Anglicans sing this hymn, but that does not make it Anglican.
