Silver Stack Pickups From My First Coin Show

- Friday I went to my first coin show and walked out with 19 oz of vintage silver bars. I also feature an Ebay auction win of a 5 oz vintage Swiss of America Patriot round, and a Horseshoe Casino (Binions) commemorative silver set of 5 silver rounds.

Nice stuff. back in the 70s and 80s I would by art bars as gifts happy birthday.merry xmas etc... They would cost about $8 dollars or so back then.

Like that chunky round... and that Binion set is immaculate with the box and everything. Its a very good set and extremely collectable, because there are a lot of casino chip collectors and card players, etc... i think that is your best pickup

Funny, my eyes directly went to the RCM bar. That was my favorite right off the bat.

it is nice to see different prints/ stampings on silver bars or rounds.. My first bar purchase was from a set of state silver bars.. Got it at a 2nd hand shop, it was Utah state and I think it was from 1975... it was the only bar there..

Valcambi SA is the Swiss miner/refiner on the "Ecology" Give A Hoot, Don't Pollute
mintage was 5000 and was minted in 1973 - catalog # is SWISS-6 in the 5th ed. Silver Art Bars guidebook
The Hallowe'en bar was made by the Madison Mint

I really appreciate this input! I did notice the small mint mark on The Halloween bar. It's very small. Do you own the publication that gives the history on these art bars?
Nice finds, the great thing about Engelhard's and RCMs is they are very liquid, very easy to liquidate them if nescessary, I would be more leery of the lesser known ones as those may be harder to sell, but then again if they are older vintage bars it shouldn't be an issue.

StackMaster G Those binions are sweet too... Benny & Ted Binion were silver stackers... A lot of the old casinos didn't issue chips, they just used cash. Ted Binion would take your silver, and give you chips. When you went to cash out you would take your chips to the cashier for paper bills. All the silver that went through his doors ended up in his private vault.
There is really interesting history surrounding this family.
StackMaster G I lived in Vegas when Sandra killed Ted.. Sandra's other boyfriend Rick Tabish was found digging a hole in Binions back yard to get to a vault. There was a lot of speculation of binion having more vaults hidden in the desert. I heard from a undisclosed but reliable source that there where blueprints found for additional vaults. The news was saying that Rick Tabish built Teds vault. I think it is possible he may have built 2, or 3.
AlmostCirculated I read this story recently and I did hear that they made it look like an overdose if I'm not mistaken. The boyfriend had built vaults for Ted. He had massive amounts of silver from what I gather. I'm going to go back in read this again. Fascinating story. That must have been the talk of the town for some time.

Swiss of America 5 ounce by far took the show. Nice find G! Coin shows can offer up some real deals. I've seen that Binion collection in pieces before but not all together. Great show!
of the earth Thanks for watching OTE. The S.O.A came from an Ebay auction I won. I bid on another one and lost over the weekend. Can't win them all. These don't come up that often. You are correct, the Binions sell very well as one off pieces. They generally go for 40-50 per coin, which is really high. The guy I bought it from wanted 200 and I was able to get it down to 150. At first, when you said that the Swiss of America round was 5 ounces, I was thinking: not possible, it's too small. But then you turned it on its side...
Salboy It's so similar to the Scottsdale Stacker rounds, nearly the same size and thickness.
