I think one of the things a lot of people miss about this song is the "have mercy" part. He says "Lord have mercy on me". He doesn't ask the court for mercy cuz he knows what he did but he asked the Lord for mercy believing it was the right thing. He didn't hide from the law he didn't ask people for forgiveness he asked the Lord for forgiveness cuz he was okay with what he did and he was praying to the Lord hoping it was understood as well.

I think that's my favorite line too 'I didn't hide try to hide my pistol, didn't even try to run. I just sat on the porch smoking one of his cigarettes and waited for the cops to come.' Completely cold but you can tell that it was reasoned action. He looked at the situation decided he could live with the consequences and that he felt that the Lord would ultimately forgive him and that was the only justice that ultimately mattered in his eyes.

My ex-wife was staying the night with her brother when she was like 12 13. Well his father-in-law was over that night and kept trying to talk her into changing into different outfits and stuff. So she finally told her brother what he was saying to her and dude took off running because he thought he was caught. Her brother ended up calling her oldest brother that lived in town at the opposite end of the road that they live on so they kind of had him trapped on the road. Well when the cops showed up and found them beating the hell out of the dude in the ditch cop said you boys go back home after he found out what happened and told him if anybody asked any questions dude fought when he was being arrested so it looked like the cop beat the piss out of him.

When he would fuss about why he had to do things like regularly mow the lawn of our 80 widowed neighbor, my response would be "because it is the right thing". As he got older all I had to do was give him a look and he would say to me "I know, because it is the right thing." There is no question how strongly Lainey feels about domestic violence. There was no "acting' here. Just full on conviction for their beliefs about the wrongness of a man cowardly beating up a woman! But the one thing that always goes through my mind when I watch this video or a reaction it is, and I am paraphrasing slightly, "No greater love has a man that he would lay down his life for another." (In some interpretations of the bible it says 'for his friend(s).) That is essentially what he did, in my view. He put his life on hold for *X* number of years to free her from this nightmare. He didn't try to run. He didn't try to lie his way out of it. He just did the right thing. That takes a kind of courage that rocks my soul. Near the end he says it's been 60 months. Reminds me of something that happened in an online group I was part of. There was a young lady who lurked there for a long time and eventually told the group she was hiding from her ex. She was very cautious at first but as time passed she became comfortable and started showing herself (and she was smokin...absolutely gorgeous btw) and started speaking more openly about her life in various posts. Then one day she stopped posting. It became a topic of conversation that she had abruptly stopped commenting on anything. Rumors flew and many claimed she had been making it all up for attention. A few days later it came to light and another member posted links to news articles... Her ex had gotten into and used the group to locate her and he came for her. There was a handyman at her home that afternoon, fixing something for her when the ex broke into the house. The handy man apparently tried to protect her... The ex, as it turns out, was every bit the psycho that she had said he was... He killed the handyman then attacked her pretty viciously... Left her brutalized and overkill stabbed to death and I believe he took the child...I don't recall exactly for some reason... But he was caught pretty quickly because I want to say he left one of the bodies laying outside the home... the police were aware of the situation and she had protective orders and such in place, so they knew who they were looking for and thankfully found him quickly. It was bizarre. So many had accused her of lying about her situation and others encouraged her to open up in the group... And ultimately that's how he found her so in my mind some of the members had some level of responsibility in her death. But the handyman, a complete stranger prior to that day lost his life getting in the middle of that crazy situation that had nothing to do with him. Because he tried to protect a woman from an abusive psycho scumbag. Men get wrapped up in life altering, or ending...situations over trying to protect women all the time. Whether it be extreme situations like this, or what's described in the song, or just simply getting into a fight on behalf of a woman... Yet to hear the new age, feminist types squawk these days, they'd have you believe that men hate women and the natural male tendencies they try to oppress in society are called toxic and young men and boys are being demonized and demasculinized...trying to make them take on female characteristics and deny their evolutionary biology. But if they'd stop playing up to the woke ideology and admit that women want and need men to act like men in society, we'd be much better off...

I think it because it's love and minus the alcohol the relationship is fine but when spirits are added it subtracts from the love then turns to abuse because of blind alcohol fueled rage.. the man wakes up from a drunk night and has no idea of who or what took possession of his body. Hanging on while hoping for change but whiskey rules that life forever until they stop drinking.. but there are some men who do not need any alcohol or drugs to beat on a defenseless female, it maybe they were abused as a child or mental problems. It's weak, pathetic and non moral humans that could even think about hitting God's most beautiful creations.. "women" 🤗🤗🤗🤗

Good morning Cedric and Brian!! I'm a Ginger....I've been through the wringer. My parents abused me, my first husband beat me daily, it goes on. Decided one day to stop giving my power away. I'm now with a man that is my rock. He treats me like a queen. An equal. I've fought to get here. 53 years. But, my God, is it worth it. Merry Christmas guys!!

She’s a great songwriter as well. ♥️ Stay with Hardy, check out mockingbird and The Crow, Jack, A Rock, Here Lies Country Music, and for Lainey, Heart Like a Truck, Dreamcatcher, and Workin’ Overtime (the live ACM performance.)

I totally understand . My best friend went thru this and hid it from me for years . Until 1 day she called and asked for HELP. to get away . No questioner's asked . And when her husband came looking for her , I SAID why don't you beat me , like you beat her. He stepped back and I told him to leave . I have called the Police. It took a Year for her to not be afraid , I remember she accidently broke a plate and raised her arms and said I'm sorry . It broke my heart. She finally moved on and was no longer broken and was a very independent woman and strong as well. We are still friends and call each other Monthly . We were friends since we were 13 and 14 yrs old and still 45 yrs later. She is re-married as well. We call and even talk to each others kids.

As a DV survivor who went back more then once we go back because of things like " no man will put up with your BS like I do " or if you leave me no man with have you " ( IE if I can't have you no man can ) the list goes on and on we are made to feel like we have no way out and when we do get out people look at us and make us feel like we are the problem that we should stay and " just work it out " one of my all time favorites" if you would have only did like he asked you to a wife is to be seen and not heard " ( yes I got told that a lot ) all situations are different but for me growing up in a religious family I had always been taught the divorce was not an option so I say again as a DV survivor this song hits home hard thank you for doing a reaction video to this song

She never knew all I had been through from being molested as a child all the way to many things even up to now but the past few years have been totally opposite and Jesus really is the answer to everything. He completely did away with all of my hurts immediately even the hardest ones you bury deep but when you have been through so much and then so depressed at times you finally give i.t to Jesus and find your peace. Part of the problem these days are that those who stand up to injustices are the only ones that face the full force of the justice system. Don't get me wrong, we should still stand up but be prepared. I did 21 years active duty as a combat medic with multiple combat tours (didn't make 22 like i wanted after losing part of a lung), as soon as I was able to move back home it became very apparent that law enforcement in out area was exceptionally lazy only taking the path of least resistance. I have family on police forces (not the one I am mentioning) who absolutely agree. It was explained to me that a majority of the good Officers were pushed out and the ones just trying to make money are the ones receiving praise. Leadership needs to get priorities straight again.

I always thought if a man ever hit me, that something like this would happen to him. My Dad and two older brothers. And unfortunately when I was 23 I had a boyfriend, we had been together for 6 mos. And never argued never raised our voices, he just beat the sh$+ it of me. I was back and blue up and down the entire left side of my body. My ear was swollen, broken eye socket and swollen shut, broken nose, broken teeth lip split and swollen. And the only thing my family did was cut me out of their lives. The only person that did anything was a neighbor that I barely knew. He knocked on my door one day and beat the hell out of him. Thank you Chris., In case you ever see this. It's been over 20 years now my family still won't talk to me. But hearing this song and seeing the video just make me" giggle cry" giggle thru tears.
