I grew up watching stampylongnose and my brother and I had no clue that his vehicles were edited or that the hitthetarget stuff was scripted at the time, even with how blindingly obvious it is to anyone over the age of like ten. Kids are impressionable and most will accept whatever content they're given as true and actual. The content you consume as a kid shapes your first impression of reality and your personality. That's not to say that said kids can't realize and improve themselves in the future if they learn otherwise, but I doubt parents who are careless enough to let their kid watch Logan Paul have the agency and care for their kids to amend the effects of it.
I remember doing the travel in time thing stampy did in one of his episodes where he dug into the ice and travled forward in time, so yeah kids can't really see through the bullshit, but at least stampy's is the fun kind of bulllshit.

Hi, teacher here. At the very least, this kind of crap has permeated to the core of children's goals. When we were kids we wanted to be astronauts, firemen, doctors, etc. By second grade, over 75% of kids I ask what they want to be, they tell me 'a youtuber', 'a let's player', 'a youtube star like X, Y or Z'. They idolize this garbage, and base all their future aspirations on sitting in a DXRacer and garbling chimp speak into a mic.

Jokes aside I think Charlie is the hero we need because he criticizes these Douchetubers constantly, unlike everyone else that forgets all about them after a week. And after that week the Douchetubers just go on with their trash "content" as if nothing ever happened. Often their channels even grow from all the drama. No one stops them. And children *actually* love them. If you've ever talked to someone from the "Logang" or to a "Jakepauler" or a Ricegum fan (Don't know what they're called. "Rice grains" maybe?) then you know that there is no way to show them that their favourite youtubers is actually a garbage human being. They're literally gods to them. A friend of mine (an actually really nice guy and not even a child) is a fan of one of them and he always has an excuse to make his douchetuber's actions look good and I don't want to insult him. I don't know what to do with him. That's why I hope Charlie and other channels like him will someday somehow put a stop to them.
When I was a kid, the only content creators youtube had for me was Rooster Teeth and Kilplixism. The closest thing to the douchetuber format would be Smosh, but they're pretty harmless at the time.

I agree with your message, but to be honest man I do think the douchetubers always act that way, even off camera. Many of them do daily vlogs, and their life is fairly transparent because a lot of them live in a house with other content creators. For them, their fixation on content and views as a means of validation is no facade, and their success that comes from it is reinforcement toward this set of ideals. Conversely there is no incentive for them to stop being a piece of shit. They are capable of generating a large circle of friends that have similar ideals about views&exposure as a means of life validation, and thus they genuinely are afforded a superior life with absolutely no need to be a "good" person.
Seeing them interact with people is just sad, they think their behavior with their friends would uplift everyone else, but really all they're doing is being a public nuissance

I used to hate it as a child and a teenager but now that I'm getting older, I can see the wisdom in restricting these kinds of media for children until they develop their own personalities a bit more. Of course, I do wish I'd have been allowed to watch the cartoons all the other kids were watching on TV back then (eg. Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z or Spongebob)- I was pretty lonely because I couldn't bond with the other kids over these cartoons and they tended to cast me out of their discussions about the newest episodes during break time, but I definitely agree to restricting CZcams and these kinds of CZcamsrs for children. I'm probably going to do that same for my kids if I ever have any (but I will let them watch the cartoons on saturday morning TV at least, unlike my parents- as annoying as Spongebob is, it's at least better than watching these CZcamsrs)

It's really depressing, discouraging and frustrating, and I speak from personal experience.

It’s sad, but it’s been years.) CZcams’s made it profitable to make cheap, easy to make, drama filled cesspools of content instead of taking your time to do long, hard work. You can get millions of views, and only make something close to a dime’s worth. This is why Patreon is being so prominent in CZcams channels who SHOULD be getting revenue.

Hi, teacher here. At the very least, this kind of crap has permeated to the core of children's goals. When we were kids we wanted to be astronauts, firemen, doctors, etc. By second grade, over 75% of kids I ask what they want to be, they tell me 'a youtuber', 'a let's player', 'a youtube star like X, Y or Z'. And after that week the Douchetubers just go on with their trash "content" as if nothing ever happened. Often their channels even grow from all the drama. No one stops them. And children *actually* love them.
If you've ever talked to someone from the "Logang" or to a "Jakepauler" or a Ricegum fan (Don't know what they're called. "Rice grains" maybe?) then you know that there is no way to show them that their favourite youtubers is actually a garbage human being. They're literally gods to them. A friend of mine (an actually really nice guy and not even a child) is a fan of one of them and he always has an excuse to make his douchetuber's actions look good and I don't want to insult him. I don't know what to do with him.

I agree with your message, but to be honest man I do think the douchetubers always act that way, even off camera. Many of them do daily vlogs, and their life is fairly transparent because a lot of them live in a house with other content creators. For them, their fixation on content and views as a means of validation is no facade, and their success that comes from it is reinforcement toward this set of ideals. Conversely there is no incentive for them to stop being a piece of shit. They are capable of generating a large circle of friends that have similar ideals about views&exposure as a means of life validation, and thus they genuinely are afforded a superior life with absolutely no need to be a "good" person.

I’m actually pretty glad my parents restricted me so much now, I wasn’t allowed to watch any sort of media until I was about twelve, and by then I knew what kind of personalities I like and stuff like that, I only watched/watch people who don’t think they’re the best person in the world
Same here. I used to hate it as a child and a teenager but now that I'm getting older, I can see the wisdom in restricting these kinds of media for children until they develop their own personalities a bit more.
Of course, I do wish I'd have been allowed to watch the cartoons all the other kids were watching on TV back then (eg. Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z or Spongebob)- I was pretty lonely because I couldn't bond with the other kids over these cartoons and they tended to cast me out of their discussions about the newest episodes during break time, but I definitely agree to restricting CZcams and these kinds of CZcamsrs for children. I'm probably going to do that same for my kids if I ever have any (but I will let them watch the cartoons on saturday morning TV at least, unlike my parents- as annoying as Spongebob is, it's at least better than watching these CZcamsrs)
