Between you, Junkyard digs, and sleeper dude, you have become my favorite channel to watch
Thanks man
Truly inspiring work. I mean, lets face it. How many folks out in CZcams land could do all this, let alone even want to tackle something that bad? I'm impressed with your simple get ur done mind set and if I ever had to do something on this level, I would at least think I could do as much as you just did. Great editing on this one. Your getting much better. I am really glad Junkyard Digs gave you a shout out. I have really enjoyed your gritty sense of humor and your no bullshit way of doing things. That and the great banter between you and your son is awesome. He will always remember these days. Thanks.
By the way Dalton, this video is really well done. You’re going to do really good with this one. I’m jealous of your editing…it’s very impressive.
So easy I can do it
You are as entertaining and funny as any other content providers I watch. And that includes a lot of automotive youtubers that I know you’ve seen.
Indeed he's doing something right - the algorithm pushed it up for me to view. All the best with your watch/view counts.
Except I can't hear him
Those tac welds look ok for flux core.
Love it. When it comes to welding (as with so many other things), “good enough” is better than “not at all”. Top job sir!
You don't even mention how quick and easy it is to cut through the sheet metal when it's all rusty. Bonus! :-D
Great job Dalton. Love your demeanour and sense of humour.
Giving hope to those that procrastinated to the point of believing their vehicle is beyond repair. Most would have put this truck out to pasture, so to speak. Others cherry pick the most solid thing they can find and then claim to rescue them. This is a real rescue and obviously not the only real rescue you've done. It's why you are growing so quick. Keep it up Dalton.
I would insert some witty line here, but it's too early in the morning to think and I have to head off to work. Have a good one.
Thanks buddy
well not every vehicle is a SEMA show piece..but you are literally turning a scab into a" healed" beauty...keep the videos coming..and the education your son is getting is better than any school will ever teach him...Thanks for entertainment..love it!
Dalton this is just what the truck needs! There's a huge difference between 'saving' a vehicle and 'restoring' one, very few people have either the time or the dollar for a full resto. At least this way it will look good and be driveable for many years to come.
I like that distinction! "Good enough" is often... good enough! Go figure. It's about getting the pig back on the road, not into a damn museum. Half-assing is an art form :D
Dalton, you turned it from a Fred Flinstone Cab to a real truck cab in just a few hours! You are a great real life body man. Most body guys just replace bent parts with new parts. You actually make stuff work when it doesn't want to fit at all. Keep up the great content! We are digging it and your deadpan humor keeps it all light!
Great job! Not many people would do even that much to a truck that rusted out, you saved it from the crusher and that's a win in my book!
A stubborn man with a hammer and a new welder achieves greatness!
For a truck that most people would of scraped, you have done one hell of a good job fixing it up and saving it
I am loving how this truck is turning out! Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see where you take this truck!
I think she'll turn out decent!
Seriously?
This is the realest guy doing regular people work ever. Like actually motivating about to start my self tapping journey
Great video. I can’t wait to see the next one. I love this truck.
The cab of this old truck looks 2,000% better then when you got her Dalton. I'm happy to see that you are making her safe for your son to ride in. Keep up the great work on her. I bet that you will decide to keep her though instead of selling her off after you are done putting all the work into making her look all beautiful once again.
Absolutely brilliant video Dalton. Your way too hard on yourself that truck was ready for the crusher and look at how awesome the cab floor looks now!! Btw just joined the low buck club i know its not much but its my little contribution to the channel 🙂
Hey I appreciate that buddy! It helps keep this stuff going
U are the only actual "on a budget" CZcams channel. I love ur videos and ur personality man keep it up
You're missing the perfect opportunity to make this a glass bottom silver dollar step side!
What could've been!
Umm, this is Pole Barn Garage, only the best plexiglass will do : )
@@rvman3359 Really faded, and crusty plexiglass that you can barely see through
@@dude55man Even better, can't see the pop welds then ; o
Excellent persuasion technique with the sledge hammer! Lol. Cant believe the incredible amount of improvement you have already achieved
It’s looking good honestly not everybody can afford a full blown rotisserie restoration, it’s definitely going to be a 100% better then what it was. It takes a long time to do bodywork and rust repair, a lot of people don’t understand that. Keep up the good work, it’s definitely getting there.
make that a thousand percent better!
I will gladly take ur welder and keep it as a testimony to a great man and his ingenuity for decades to come.
Email me PBGDalton@gmail.com if you can pick it up
Hello, I stumbled on your channel thru junk yard diggs. When I saw you guys loading this truck on the trailer I was thinking the worst. I have been looking for some kind of restoration on a 1976 Chevy K10 Scottsdale Sport. Such a very rare truck. My Dad ordered one of these brand new in 75. I wasn't around yet. However I have such fond memories of this truck as it was actually my Moms truck and I remember she would take me out and ride around after snow storms in the 1980's. being that I am from Duluth Minnesota you can imagine how much fun that was for a little kid. This is literally the most exciting project series on youtube for a guy like me who has such great memories of this truck. The day my parents sold this truck I was 9 years old and I cried like a baby. Also it is so cool to see that you have your boy doing this project with you. Reminds me also of me and my Dad restoring our 1948 chevy pickup. Keep up the good work my friend!!
This'll make a guy cry- had an inlaw a few years ago start on a square body project, they found a much better cab (thiers was like yours) but still had to do outer floors, rockers, cab corners - he had the whole cab 95% done and in primer. Lost intrest in the project, left it sit out on saw horses in the open, rain water and leaves filled it up, claimed he couldn't sell it (I doubt he advertised it or took it to a swap meet) it, along with the repo fenders etc left in a damp basement all went to scrap. He is a very talented person but just can't finish what he has started! Great work Polebarn- those little port a power sets have been a godsend to me working on big diesels in boats and having to move stuff around!
Dude your morbid jokes are the best.
"Smells like a burning body in here....
I would know" 😂😂😂
This video is great, I know guys who will junk a whole car over about one square foot of rust. Rip and part out a whole car because they don't know how to fix it or are too scared of what it could cost. Thanks for showing what can be accomplished when you just "try"
Holy smokes. I always wandered about those replacement panels. Thanks for giving me an eye opener. Doing really good. Keep up the great work
They work great as intended, as patches or replacing 1 thing. Not so much for trying to rebuild the whole truck
All the Mortske repair references (Ray Charles Welding, "Gonna lose the shop", etc.) are hilarious.
I absolutely love that you have your son so involved, I spent so many nights and weekends in the shop and driveway with my dad wrenching on stuff. It's priceless time and you learn things you won't get anywhere else
I am a awesome shadetree mechanic, I can rebuild most engines. This job is above my knowledge. You got guts tackling this beast lol. Great video
You do exactly what every other red blooded shade tree mechanic would do, so keep it up
Dalton, for what you started with, the money you spent and using the tools you got, you sir have done a fine job indeed. Hats off to you! THIS is the kind of stuff people like myself want to see. A guy doing car stuff out in his garage with nothing fancy to work with. Love it dude, keep it up
She is much stronger than when you started. So good work. I am not any better at welding so I appreciate what you have done. Looking forward to seeing future progress.
I love this, every other channel is working on rust free southern cars, I'm in PA and this is just like me doing rust repair on my Jeep Cherokee
One of my favorite all time Dalton quotes "we're gonna butcher the everlovin hell out of this"!!
As I have heard it said, a grinder & paint make the welder you ain't! Alternatively, If you can't weld well, weld a lot!
A thing of beauty and everlasting peace and may the algorithm gods bless you with the highest of rankings. Great video btw!
Thank you sooo much for this video! I was just about ready to pull the trigger on a project in as bad as shape. This video reminded me how much I hate floors, rockers, and cab corner repair! Guess I’ll look for a different project.
Not a bad idea 😂
I like how the kid embraces all the bad decisions.
Great video man. Thanks Kevin for introducing us to you. The only thing I'd recommend maybe have a light in the cab so we can see more. Other than that, great work!
Ps..I think the best thing about your videos is it's no fanciness. You show us the average guy can plop together anything and make it good enough. Lol
“ not only just garbage, they’re occasionally dangerous as well “. 😂
Hey that new welder machine is great.
Even if you don't know Jack about it, when you open up the panel on the side, there's a legend that tells you how to set the machine for the thickness of the metal and size of wire you've got.
The machine does the rest!!
Its stupidproof!
This is gonna be a cool truck, looking forward to it. 👍
Almost a shame putting floors back in blocking your access to the trans and t case. Keep up the great work.
Hey, i know evryone hates doing bodywork but its super satisfying to see these sort of real long term improvements instead of riveting road signs over rust etc.
I love watching your stuff man! You do a lot with a little and that’s the best!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that has the same thought process for these trucks..
Oh my god your humor is incredible. "Once I get over here, I'll be pissed off enough to go back to *Rmm, Rmm, Rmm* and it wont matter anymore"
Keep up the great videos, they make my day!
Father and Son in harmony, great to hear. The future youtuber is well on his way HAHA
LOL THE LOVE for the truck :)
Been nervous about the rust repair on my Indy Fiero. Seeing your process and how it looks when you’re done has motivated me. Great job sir. Awesome to see this truck saved. 👍
Exactly the same for me
You're not building a show truck, if you were you wouldn't have started with this truck. You're taking something that could be saved and saving it so it doesn't have to be "perfect".
Keep up the great work.
whats cool about you brother is you tell ppl over and over, this isnt how you are supposed to do it, but it dont care in this instance, but it should be done....then you explain it. wether its done right or not is that your happy with it and it does/did what you want and looks good enough to make you happy. I enjoy your videos and think your funny as hell. I can tell your pretty knowledgeable but do thing how you want it done, and on a budget a lot of times, which is great for other back yard mechanics with projects. Keep up the good content and keep on wrenching brother!
I do things the way I've always done them, which is basically whatever I could afford at the time 😂 I know most guys out there are the same
Best advice ever If you don't know what your doing just Wing It Dalton @Pole Barn Garage
I really appreciate the hammer, plate and mud technique shown... because that's what I do with my garbage and it works great.
I cant believe how much content you pump out an dhow many hours work you put in, even this half ass way you say, it's great, howd you become my fav youtuber lately?
It ain't easy being this stupid
It is honestly reassuring seeing someone weld that isn't always bringing out perfect welds. I have no idea how to weld and want to get a welder to learn, but it is always disheartening to see people weld and it is always perfect. I love your channel and how it is more for the common dude, not someone with a ton of money. Thank you for the amazing content!
It's amazing to me how you take a piece of crap an send so much time to make it drivable again. Most people wouldn't give that truck the time of day. Thanks for sharing 😊.
Great update on the Silver Dollar Chevy... Glad you have a new welder to play with, because its fabrication time!!
Your giving this ole girl another life! Awesome.
Hey Dalton so glad to see you finally getting time for the ole silver dollar Chevy lol. I was JB's age when I rode in my uncle's Chevy truck just like this one but nice lol for the first time and I've been a Chevy Guy ever since!! We actually broke the Speedo that night in the straightaway in front of his house. So seeing you trying to bring this thing back to it's former glory mixed with your awesome sense of humor really entertains the hell outta me!! So double thanks for what you do man!! And Awesome job working the camera for your old man JB!!!!
Another awesome video I just wanted to say i live in Colorado and when I look your direction your work is absolutely perfect from a far. I love it
Absolutely loving this series, been on a similar "restoration" journey with a truck of mine too, though wasn't as bad as this one. No matter how brutal the repairs are; if the doors close nicely, the weather stays outside the cab and the structure is solid then you're styling no matter what anyone else says 💯(coming from someone who methodically cut, fabricated and welded new metal in) . Awesome job 😎
That should be a sticker.
BUCKLE UP IT'S BUTCHER TIME!
😂
Watching all of these expert techniques has given me the confidence to give my body work a go, seeing how I'm a carpenter and never done it before I'm sure it will be fine🤪
From my German perspective i am glad that you use welding technique instead self-tapping everything
Man the Liquid nails for "seam sealer" line got me rolling. great stuff.
“Buckle up it’s butcher time” I hear as I epoxy my wall back together haha
Right there with ya. I really enjoy metal work but it sure is time consuming.
I think you and I went to the same body work school! My instructor was primitive Pete, beat it to fit, paint it to match 👍🏻
Real world repair. Rock on, man!
This reminds me of watching some guys working on an early Mustang convertible that was so rusty that you didn't even dare to open the doors. The doors were the only thing keeping it from becoming a taco. This truck is just an upside-down taco with the roof being the only thing keeping it together. Similar to the Mustang stuff, with a Chevy like this you cut, weld and hack the thing together halfway decent so that it's at least safe and hopefully doesn't leak. Then if you want it nicer later, you can always do it again. To be honest you've given this truck more of a chance at a new stage of life than almost anyone else would have done. Most would have grabbed a few parts and scrapped the rest. I kind of want to see you and DDSpeedshop do a collaboration fixing some rusted-out pile of junk and making it run and actually able to go down the road.
Dalton, you are awesome man. After adding a 60's Mustang to a 76' Chevy, I quote, "there is no where to go but up", LOL. Optimism 101 is taught here! Thanks!
Have to keep the glass half full!
Hey Dalton don't forget you also have the old hood for metal.
Hell, I'd say so long as you can throw yourself, your kid, and all your shit in the back of the truck without any one of those 3 falling out, you did fix it right. You took something that was absolutely *terrible* and made it entirely usable, it's incredible. Makes me want to get out there and just make some patches for my car, this is freaking awesome!
Solid butchery. That isn’t going to fall apart and as long as the doors close and the windshield doesn’t break every 500 miles , that’s a win
At least you were honest and it explained your thought process good enough for me
I don't comment on a lot of youtube videos, but I just have to say I really appreciate your authenticity. This type of content has been around youtube for a long time, and a lot of people have done it well and kept it entertaining and informative. Unfortunately some of them, as they have grown, have strayed from their original formula. Can't say I blame them, if I had the money to go from working on absolute junk that fights you every step of the way to working on beautiful automotive works of art I would probably jump right on it. But some relatability gets lost for me there and I just can't seem to keep up, even just as a viewer. I respect your humble methods and projects because everything you're doing seems attainable to the average guy who has SOME money to spend on fun cars and trucks, and your knowledge, methods, and tools are right there as well. Thanks a lot, keep it up, enjoy your success, and try not to forget where you started.
We love how you do stuff Colton!!
I had a 1979 k10 step side when I was in my early 20's. That's what got my now husband's attention. He was driving a 1972 K-5 Blazer.
Hello from beautiful NC!! No more E S Bryant. New account and rejoined the low buck club.
Sweet!
It's slightly less of a bucket! LOL
I see absolutely nothing amiss with your welding work, sir. 👌
I just love your channel and your work. It’s real, calm and absolutely beautiful. Your style of talking, jokes and work is really addicting to watch and listen to.
But please start wearing these partially rubber coated gloves, at least during body work.
Keep up this content! It’s awesome.
And the camera work of your son is just incredibly nice ✨
Thank you it nice to see someone who knows what most people have to work with.
I like your unique way of doing things in my opinion as long as it is safe then that is really all that matters.
Your welding is approved. Your approach is approved. Overall, approved
You ain't doing nothing I won't have done myself!
( might even be guilty of doing it, but there is no proof I ever did!😂)
Thanks for not giving up on this old truck, most would have walked away, and let it rot. You sir (I use that term lightly) are a true car/truck rescuer!
So awesome youre saving this old junk. Make it look so easy, i hate body work. Can’t wait til the next video
I love seeing the detail of how you fit, attach, shape, and weld the sheet metal. Just very interesting Thank you.
Sweet, I’ve been waiting for another SILVER DOLLAR CHEVY video!!! The best!!!
I have no problem with half-assery on a project like this as like you said, it really should have been junked and you're literally saving it. The only problem I have with folks doing this kind of work otherwise is when they try to pass it off as something better than it is to the next buyer, something I don't think you're the type to do. MIG will change your life, much easier to weld thin metal like this!
your lack of knowledge of welding inspires me to want to pick up some rusty bits out of a pick a part and teach myself! Im more handy with sheet fiberglass and bondo on my rust buckets 😬
Same
Hey, if some numbnuts like me (or a slightly less than wise, yet fairly intelligent in shadetree semi-hack mechanics like Dalton) can do it, anyone can.
Thanks for showing me how sufficient is good enough
You’re welding gave it character
"It's still working somehow, but it doesn't seem very safe." That is the motto for this channel and why I keep coming back!
Loving this rustoration, new to the channel from Junkyard digs, I just had to see what you were going to do to this truck and the humor is right up my alley. Keep up the good work!
Thanks 👍
Hell yeah! Always a good day when there's a new pbg video, especially the k10
This is awesome! Can't wait to see the finished truck.
