For whatever reason I didn't expect the dry/wet dynamic that the Nurburgring can offer, that makes me super excited!
Technically if the clouds come in a certain way or from certain directions that might be a thing
Grand Prix 3, released in July 2000 had this dry/wet function. Rain came in at one part of the circuit first, and moved along. It could be on the whole circuit quick, or take time. At times it only rained a bit on one part, and then it stopped, the rain was moving away. It's almost 24 years since that, and considering that outside the GP-series, this has been an extreme rarity... it more down to sub-par work from others, rather than amazingness from iRacing (though, I really like that they are bringing it back!).
It's also a sign of how game development have had a bad trend in recent times. When over 20 year old features are hailed when brought back.
@villemacher That's a feature for any big racetrack, really. That sometimes happens in Daytona as well.
@@MyrvoldGrand Prix might not have the best driving physics for a sim, but it surely had all the simulation done right. AI, weather, they did it way earlier than any other did after
24h of Nurburgring on iRacing could be most interesting race on whole SIM scene!

Best rain system i've ever seen in a racing simulator. Hopefully coming to Dirt/Road ovals soon!

How exactly is rain at ovals in a sim supposed to work? I doubt everyone wants to be red flagged and just sitting there waiting for the weather to clear up.

i'm an oval runner, so normally this doesn't affect me. BUT! this seems a ton of fun, so i just feel that i have to jump in a GT3 car and go on track in the rain! :)

There are so many crashes when it's dry imagine the chaos in the wet. I can't wait.
I am super excited for this!
However watching some videos i have noticed a few things (correct me if i'm wrong):
- Spray on dry line
- Bit too much grip on dry tires in starting rain
- Weird looking spray in virtual mirror (due to fov)
- No raindrops from spray when it is not raining but track is still wet and you're in someone's spray
the spray in the rear view mirror is being fixed
Spray on dry line is what needs to be addressed imho, atm it looks like it's still wet by the spray and grip, but it looks dry.

Grip is okay, theres a bit too much spray in almost dry surface so it looks wet but actually is quite dry. @@PandaHunt Remebember every image we have seen is a pre-release version.
Does the water dissipate statically from the ideal racing line only, or the dynamic line everyone people are actually driving? Looking forward to seeing this tested.
It depends on where people actually drive.

Hopefully they do something to the dry tire model since it already feels like your driving in the rain as is
Thanks for the overview. Is the Tempest going to be engaged in all the series and tracks or just select series and tracks for Season 2 of 2024?
What we know now is for Season 2 it’ll be GR86, FF1600, FIA F4, Super Formula Lights, and IMSA. There is talk of VRS Sprint but that depends on if they updated the Ford GT and McLaren to have rain tires. That or they removed the cars from the series.
I hope the grip levels on rubber v non-rubber will be nailed. Though, I also hope with light rain, that the dust, torn off rubber and other stuff outside the racing-line doesn't magically disappear to make the "rain line" the quickest. I also hope that, with all this talk about rain-lines, if the rain comes early on a relatively, or very green track, that the rain-line, doesn't provide loads more grip than an non-rubbered in racing line, just to make "the rain-line" a thing. If that is nailed, it will probably be the biggest new thing in regards to rain in simracing.
Dynamic rain/dry lines based on where cars are driving have been a thing for over 10 years.
Water, puddles etc. changing based on ambient temperature, cars passing over etc. have also been a thing for years.
Rain gradually moving in was a thing in Grand Prix 3 in 2000...
So, it is nailing the rubber, the off-line grip, and how this will change depending on how much water it is, how rubbered in the track is etc. that will be the main thing here. That's where iRacing really can gain an upper hand!

I sure hope the FFB is more of an indicator than sound. Some sims do ice extremely well. As someone who has driven thousands of miles on ice it’s shocking how real it is in EA WRC. Should be the main factor just like a real car.
The IRL drivers that have tried rain have been fairly positive about it and even called it intuitive to the real world. Bodes well for the update

You are truly setting the bar for next gen gaming with this update I think. What is every other company doing when this type of thing is possible in perspective?
Have you ever heard of RFACTOR2, AMS2, ACC? All 3 have had dynamic weather for years. This is nothing new. Better late than never more like.
Idk. Dynamic weather and lines changing based on where cars are driving, temperatures etc. isn't new. rFactor 2 have had that for years.
Rain moving in to the track from one side and gradually covering the track was a part of Grand Prix 3, released in July 2000.

i have a question about the weather forecast. Can it vary or when it say that in 3 hours it is cloudy but no rain, it will be 100% be like this ?
they stated in their forum post about this update (or somewhere else) that forecasts will change over time and may not be 100% accurate
I’m pretty sure that they have confirmed that the radar will be hundred percent accurate but I’m not sure
The forecast is a likelihood/probability, not a certainty, just like a real-life weather forecast. Although sessions can be configured to be certain (you can set what the weather WILL be, not MIGHT be, at any number of points in the session), the official series won't be certain. They'll have "possible" and "likely" weather scenarios.
yeah but what percentage is that likelihood, i think thats important to know if it will probabaility rain with a percentage of 90% or 20%...@@Lateralus14

Raindrops collected by brushes on the left side just disappear in a moment. Not all track objects appear in reflections.

@@frederiquerijsdijk It is indeed what will be happening. Government weather service data is publicly available and easily accessible; no need to arrange anything with any third-party privately-owned websites to obtain this information.
@@frederiquerijsdijk False. Currently the weather is emulated based on real-world weather patterns and probability for the time of year at that circuit's geographic location.
It does NOT attempt to recreate the current weather conditions at the time the sim is being driven.

Dear iRacing, the physics and handling of your title are appealing to us sim racers. However, these visuals appear so outdated I can't bring myself to hold on to an iRacing subscription for more than a month.
Most people I race can't stay on the track in the dry let alone the wet!
If you can drive a L49, you can drive any cars on wet conditions

Could the tire sound in iRacing finally be updated? A more realistic sound would be an improvement with that ❤. I'm sorry for using this game as an example, but the tire sound in Forza Motorsport is already heading in the right direction. However, iRacing is by far the best simulation, please don't get me wrong. For those who don't typically play iRacing, this is a critical point of criticism. It's a shame because the racing itself is too good for this oversight.

That's basically most people lol, and it's funny how many people have demanded rain in iR over the past decade when I doubt most actually want to run in it. It's a great addition nevertheless though, gonna be fun
