Gas line ruptured in Bondi Junction after workers hit pipe

At around 1.00am this morning, workers struck a major gas main pipeline in the eastern suburbs.
Fire & Rescue NSW with the assistance of the NSW police shut down the intersection of Ebley St and Bronte Rd's in Bondi Junction.
Around 50 residents were evacuated from their units after gas filled their home and common areas.
It's understood around 20 residents were unable to return to their home.
The gas line is believed to supply a large part of Bondi Junction and is considered a major supply line to the area.
Emergency gas workers attempted to crimp the pipe, however this was unsuccessful.
Parts of the intersection remains closed and minor traffic disruptions are expected.
