- Hull Cartridge released a new shell and asked us to check it out, so we met up with James Bradley-Day at his private training facility to talk about how to find extra targets and put this load to the test.
Enjoy!

Great video. Not everyone has the desire or funds to be a competitive shooter, so great review on a cartridge that helps keep rising costs to a minimum and people in the sport.
Nothing wrong with club level boys, we just love having fun
They are my new favourite love them. Well done Hull. Great content JC..
This video just happened to fall in my feed last night, the night before a clays session with an old friend. I have been struggling to shoot lately due to legacy pain issues. Very glad it did, took a punt of some 24g for my a303 and couldn't be happy. They really do take the edge off, still had some Sovereign for the longer shots, but they certainly made the day a lot less wearing as a disabled shooter when compared to the usual 28g superfsst and Sovereign i am used to.
I have been asking my club for a while to stock Hull. Hopefully I can pass this along and get them closer to it.
@tgsoutdoors - Video idea!
I am very much an amateur and just shoot as and when I can with friends and family. The ground we go to most of the time is one you frequent at. I’m always struggling with the terms/naming of targets and how each one looks/works. Could you do a tutorial style video explaining what targets like battue, crows, teal as well as the more obvious types like looper and crosser and maybe how you should approach shooting each type.
Another great video. Some great advice!
The 7/8 oz load is a great way to save money when loading your own. Stretches a bag of shot a long way, more broken clays in the long run. Shooter comfort is always a concern when spending the day at the club.
My son used to shoot seven and a half 24 gram Rio starteams brilliant cartridge, really opened my eyes at the time real confidence booster when you dropped two of them in the chambers.
I switched to RC2 from that cartridge. Just as cheap and less punchy.
I hit 65 of 80 on average using 28grm Eley select with my Baikal over under
Many years ago I used to shoot Hull cartridges, DTL 300 and Hull Fibre. We uesd to call the DTL "pinks". They were a very soft cartridge to shoot even in 28 gram. I remember buying a 1000 of the pinks but something had really changed, the recoil was terrible and not nice to shoot. I took them back to the dealer and have never shot another Hull cartridge again. I think it could have been around 2010. And watching the shooters shoulder on this and other videos from TGS Hull do have a lot of recoil.
Excellent Jonny good video. You should come try our club shoot the Colchester Garrison Cpc and see what a proper club shoot is 😅
Luv Hull Superfast 27gr , Great Cartridge , Great Video Guys 💯💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
ive used the 27g superfast, a 24 would be perfect! currently using fiochii litespeed which are a bit punchy..but dust targets
Cheap too. Well, relatively 😅
Try fiocchi 21 g especially on first barrel. Have used first barrel on DIL and have noticed no difference in breaking the clay but faster recovery
Also remember that you are using Fibre Wads. Fibre wads they will give you the exact pattern of your choke since there is no plastic wad. Plastic wads usually pattern tighter than Fibre Wads since the shot is more protected than Fibre Wads. More protection for the shot, less deformation, tighter patterns.
So chaps, what price can the general club shooter purchase 1000 cartridges for £?
I'd imagine the 24g shells give a guy a bit of a handicap, which would pay off in a competition shoot when switching to the premium load
johnny you seem keen on 1500ft per second do you shoot cpsa reg shoots ? do they work ? i dont think speed is the majic wand !! club level comp shooter owt moving is missable
You need to come downunder for a play at some of our ranges here in Oz. Most of them are definitely not as polished as UK's grounds, but we'll give you a challenging time at some of our "club" shoots.
We literally have no good ranges in oz
Seriously? I have been to heaps of great sporting clay shoots at different ranges. Guess we have a massive difference of opinion there. @@william6815
Is the wizard doing well?
private shooting ground ? wow how lucky !!!
Over here the club is Steel 24 gram 7-9 only. But for competition on other grounds in the low land its 28 gram 6 max, so there I use steel 28 #7. superfast suite me well.
My club has banned Superfast and DTL300 due to the noise - as they're banned i've never shot them. Are they louder than normal shells?
tgs vs tsc.... now that is good 🤣🤣
''TGS vs TSC'' 🤣
its a no contest...
Please do a test on the 27g Superfast - got to be the most affordable fast cartridge on the market. test them against the big boys that are twice the price!
Hi Jonny hope your well my friend like this review and would you say my 18 year old Beretta A391 Ulrika would recycle the 24 gram ok as currently use the 27gram ones 🤔
Bought some yesterday at local ground...Fibres and Plaswads ...impressive killls...Not much difference in price to 27gms Reckon soon could be the way to go CPSA comps etc ...(Less lead) ? ish..
Ive literally just left, here after having a lesson
Does Hull not export their shells to the States? I haven't seen them anywhere. They look great.
24 grams is Plenty of Power, its Your Abilities that are lacking 😂
Are these lead or steel? Would like to see Hull cartridges in Denmark, but lead shots have been forbidden in 30years now 😅
Lead, in the UK people only use steel on game, predominantly duck and geese which legally require steel shot to be used. But more people are trying steel shot on pheasants, partridge, pigeon etc
But how did the 694 pattern??
Jonny, I like 21 gram loads in a 12 gauge- low recoil but excellent performance basically a 28 in a 12. However, this load is not commercially available in California. I do believe that increasing speed negates the value in lower recoil that you get with a 24 or 21 gram load. Speed x weight = energy, after all, s
You are quite correct - near same recoil energy, with 28/24/21 and the gun mass is constant.
I tried the 27g Superfast... Someone asked me if i was firing a cannon 😅
This is more an advert for Hull than anything else.
Agreed, which is a shame. Be good to see some Fiochhi’s being used especially as they were the last company to hike the prices, unlike HULL who were the first to jump with the price increases. Prices are simply ridiculous now, my carts now costing over £300+. Bonkers!
@@CraigK80In Ni fiocchis are more expensive hulls are 264
fblacks are 300
Eley for me.@@CraigK80
Cartridges would be more affordable if they stopped sponsoring the likes of JC 😂
The video title kind of gives that away seeing as it’s all about a test of a Hull cartridge.
Good Christ, watch those airplanes man!
I still prefer CompX felt in all it's different weights for my club shooting.
The 21?
was that the first games console you had in your hand? 🤣
What kind of shotgun with black side plates you shoot ?
It’s a longthorne Valkyrie
@@tgsoutdoors such a great shotgun 👍
Have fun
I mostly use 24 gram at my local shoots, and I am one of the above average shooters. And let's face it, many Olympic shooters are in fact confined to 24 gram in competition. Good enough for those top people, enough said!
Those were marked 7.5 and 2.3 Italian shot size?
British sizing is different to continental.
@@AdamsClayPigeonGuide That was my point, Italian size 7.5 is 2.3 mm. So the shot is bought in or manufactured in the UK to Italian size?
Tgs Vs Tsc 😂😂
Haha TSC got roasted.
Where is your "normal" Longthorne Jonny? This gun seems a bit on the short side for you?
I’ve just grown
@@tgsoutdoors 😅
Plays like a paid promotion
Hull have sponsored the channel for ages. This is just a review of one of their carts. Don’t like it, don’t watch. Go and watch David Florent if you want to pretend Hull don’t exist.
@@adamgregory5477 why do you think I don't like Hull? My comment was on the content not the subject, it play like an advertisement in the infomercial style not a review JC and his team are better than that.
If cartridges get any more expensive I am getting a bloody bow & arrow
You Brits can't handle a 32 gram load...Ha Ha...English tend to have sort forcing cones which will increase the felt recoil...28 bore is where it's at with 21.26 grams of shot which is a better balanced load in relation to a 24 gram 12 bore
