  • Your upper gastrointestinal region - often referred to as your upper GI region
    - includes organs such as the oesophagus, stomach, liver, bile ducts and pancreas.
Each of these organs plays a vital role in digesting food and fluids, processing nutrients, absorbing energy, regulating blood sugar and filtering waste before passing through the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine.
Cancer can occur in any part of these organs when abnormal cells grow out of control.
The liver is one of the largest organs inside the body. It is on the right side of the abdomen, next to the stomach and is responsible for filtering waste products from the blood, making bile to help digest fats, and storing sugar, which the body uses for energy.
Liver cancer occurs when abnormal cells in the liver grow out of control.
Unlike other cancers, there is no early detection test for liver cancer.
The symptoms are often vague and can be similar to other medical conditions - so it’s important for you to see your GP for a review if you experience symptoms that are unusual for you or persistent.
The symptoms you should be looking out for are:
    🔎 Excessive fatigue or weakness
🔎 Pain the right side of the upper abdomen or right shoulder
    🔎 Nausea

    🔎 Abdominal swelling
    🔎 Unexplained weight loss
    🔎 Itchy skin
    🔎 Changes in stools
🔎 Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
It’s important to see your GP if you are experiencing any of these 👆 symptoms, especially if it is unusual for you or persistent.
    Don’t ignore the warning signs.
