Honestly what really makes me enjoy your channel is your humility and honesty. Too often you get guys acting like they're the defacto voice and expert on a given topic. I like hearing your opinions and experiences. It might not mesh with everyone's conception of things, but I think that's what makes your content nice to see. You dont get that honesty very often. I'd rather have someone give it to me straight from their own perspective, rather than embellish how something would be just to appeal to what their audience wants to hear.
Thanks! That's the biggest compliment you could give me. My goal is to help people as much as I can with this channel and that means being honest and not pandering to what is most popular.
The jacket is perfect for California weather. Not tight so that the air in the sleeves can circulate. Light color so that that it doesn't absorb the heat. And of course stylish :) So let's send it to Greg Fields to replicate.
@@almostvintagestyle 😁I was referring to my own vintage adventures you wear it better. Vintage does seem to work better for guys that actually have shoulders and arms that they want to move which with modern cuts I can’t seem to do. The winter darkness in Scotland means we don’t stretch up and the year round driving rain forces us to grow broadly with a hunched painful looking posture forged cutting wind. Which vintage wool and leather is ideal for. We can only dream of yer sun hewn excellent optimistic posture or see the likes on CZcams 🙃
Ah I understand. But you're absolutely right. I used to think you had to just accept some discomfort to get a nice looking fit in a leather jacket. Then I discovered vintage. Now I have comfort and nice looking fits.
Been waiting a while for this video, that is the perfect jacket. Hope you do a video of the square pocket one next, that one I think fits you insanely well, as the Sportclad does. You inspired me to get into vintage, was a bit iffy on a couple wasn't sure if vintage was right for me... until I got my 40s Hercules (from Marc 😁) and that's when everything fell in place and I understood everything, my absolute favourite jacket, period! Interesting about the inner pockets, they're a feature I really enjoy. Interesting enough my late 50s-60s Cal has two inner pockets (on both sides) as well as my early 50s Red Label Cal has one inner pocket. Cal are custom order though so that's maybe why. My 40s Hercules does not have any inner pockets, although I wish it did, they're very convenient.
Thanks! Oh very nice pick up! Once you break the ice, it really opens up your mind doesn't it? Yeah I've seen many mide to later 50s jackets have inner pockets, but it seems that for the most part, early 50s and earlier tend to not have them.
what do you think about the californian havana jacket from eastman leather? Also, I have a waist measurement of 85 cm and a shoulder width of 55 cm. What would be the best size for a Californian leather jacket, 44 or 46? thank you soo much for you videos! from France
They look very nice. The horsehide is thinner than most which can be good or bad depending on your preference. Honestly with shoulders that wide I think you'd need at least a 46
Jake, very interesting, informative. I don't know if you're in SoCal, but if you're, can you tell me of a good tailor that does relatively good matching alterations on denim, leather? Thanks
Zip Stevenson from Denim Doctors. BEST denim and leather alterations out there. Check him out. He also carries a fantastic selection of vintage leather jackets.
Thank you! I am in socal. For denim, I'd say Railcar does a good repair job. If you want the best, you'd have to send to Indigo Proof and wait forever. For leather, you should send to Johnson Leathers in SF or Great Leathers in the midwest
It depends on your shoulder width, chest, waist, etc. I don't find weight to be a super helpful statistic as it really depends on where your weight is distributed
I find it too difficult to find much used pants that fit properly, much less true vintage trousers, and I prefer modern appointments on most leather jackets and can't usually find the condition I'd want for a price I'd pay, etc. I consider Vintage older than 1970s, right?
I think you mean more motorcycle style than aviator, which people use interchangeably with "bomber" but in WW2 specs, high altitude bomber jackets are much more robust and shearling-lined than the standard flight jackets. Most flight jackets come either insulated or uninsulated, so I find it's best to have a couple different ones for different seasons or temperature. Most other leather jacket styles will have this option also, but if you want motorcycle jackets in wider variety of colors, they're going to be more contemporary almost automatically, too, I assume. Black being the old default but now there's red and green and such?
I think a fair amount of horsehide IS that natural color, though, and a lot of the pre-WW2 flight stuff was undyed and used by barnstormers on a budget. I have some old one from the 70s that might be horsehide that is just a total disco collar, zip-front thing and embossed... sigh.
Many English sport jackets have angled sleeve cuffs like that; the problem is they're usually sold Off Rack and so need to be shortened and then the US tailors want to make them straight because it's easier.

True vintage fits so much better when you are heroically built like a letterbox

Suits and sport jackets are also generally slim fits. I also have problem to find clothes straight from rack.
Yeah not always easy
I'm so happy you made this video! Yeah fit is totally perfect!
Thanks! I'll definitely be making more videos about my vintage jackets soon
I've been loving how the "new" vintage jackets look on your fits! That shirt fits mighty well, too.
Thanks! Definitely the way forward for me. It's one of my favorite shirts
I’m so glad you got this jacket, now I get to see it all the time 😂

Didn't hear a word you said, was mesmerized by the jacket
I don't blame you! The jacket is far more important than me
that jacket is made for you. fits perfect
Thanks! It certainly feels like I custom ordered it
Absolutely great jacket!

That shirt is gorgeous! What is the i.d?
Thanks! It's a Freewheelers Conductor shirt in old gold. It's a gorgeous fabric. You can find them used sometimes.

Nice jacket but not everyone can spend a mortgage payment on a leather jacket.
Dude where I live this jacket wasn't even 1/4 of the average mortgage payment.
