I'm from Romania and I can tell you that there are not many black people here, especially in small cities and vilages and that's why peoples here (older ones more often) tend to stare but they do it just for curiosity, for them you're something new they never/rarely seen before, is nothing malicious in their stare.

It's a funny dynamic in places like Romania where the few black people that live there, are basically either musicians/entertainers, high level athletes or students/college educated professionals. So there are virtually no black people that are poor or unemployed or doing crime or other negative things that are associated with black people in places with larger population (US, UK, France etc). Wonder what would one prefer... to live in a place where there are more people like you and no-one stares but you can get negatively stereotyped... or in a place you do get stared at but have basically no stigma attached to you solely because of your skin color.

It all comes down to the fact that are very few foreigners in Romania and even fewer black people. I'm not gonna say there's no racism in Romania - there's racism everywhere, but Romanians are generally happy to see foreigners visiting their country, and even if they don't speak your language they'll try their best to help you if you need some information or directions or advice.

Hello from Romania! 🇷🇴 As he said in the video, we romanians are new to seeing people of other nationalities on the streets for example (black, asian people etc…) We were under communism for over 40 years and the people never got a chance to Interact with other races as much as people in Western Europe did) which was free and open to travel. (Basically, we were closed off the western world except for Russia and other soviet satellite states like Poland and Hungary). But once we got rid of communism, we finally opened up to the world, people could come and leave as they pleased!
But don’t be afraid of racism here..if you’ll go to the big cities…even villages, most people will not really stare at you…and if they do..they won’t stare at you like “wth is …. doing here?! and more like “woow! a black person…didn’t really seen someone like that before! -amazement-) We are slowly becoming more westernised by the day so this is becoming normal like in the West. Romania is incredibly beautiful and we are very welcoming to everyone, really hope you’ll visit one day and check some videos about my country!!! ❤️

If you live in the countryside you probably never met a black person in your entire life. Question. If any black man goes to Japan. Do you think the Japanese would know that he’s not from Africa? I doubt it. Even as a white Romanian living in the UK I have to say nobody can guess where I’m from simply by looking at me. Now if you get to know me, perhaps my accent and cultural differences begin to be noticed and only then people can get an idea. My own teacher in the UK thought I was British. Romanians aren’t racist and they can definitely tell the difference between Africans black and African Americans as the skin tones are very different + Romanians of my generation and above grew up on American movies and culture. I listened to US rap my whole life.
I think Romanians like he said not as exposed and if you are black, unless you tell them where you are from they won’t know as they aren’t as exposed to black people as say ex-colonialist states are. This phenomenon is also valid for the rest of Europe not just Ro

Hi, there! Romanian here.👋We are not racists at all. As already said, we don't have racial diversity, and we curiously stare (behind this stare, we mostly want to know more about you). I come from a small town, first time I saw a black person, I was in high school. After, I went to university (bigger city), things changed. Now I teach in English series, so many of my students are from Africa, and I understand and learn much more about their cultures. It's only logical, since white people have such cultural diversity, why wouldn't black people not be the same?
In Romania, there is a big plus compared with US: white privilege doesn't exist. We have no history with black people, and we are open-minded😊

You have to understand that their cultural development happened mainly under communism, where all things diverse were forbidden by law; they are still deeply embedded in that innoculated mindset. Otherwise, they are not aware that they do in fact stare, because they were brought up in a “staring” environment. To them, this is normal not just toward you, but with respect to everything new.

The same "treatment" gets an Indian guy or chinese. Hello, I'm from Romania, and I'll tell you why this thing happened, either you're upset or you're not. I don't care, I tell you what's in my heart. After 1989, when we finished with communism, your country was the first to come into contact with us and promote the American way of life. And democracy. Of course the lifestyle was promoted through the airing of Hollywood movies. Yes... And what to learn from those films? All the time blacks were bandits, blacks were thieves, blacks were prisoners. All the time the whites in the US were "the best" Do you realize what the world thought after so many movies? It took time for people to get used to the idea that you are not exactly what they say in Hollywood. So if you pass through certain countries, and you are looked at like that. Know that your state "which says it promotes democracy" made you look at people that way, and that's why people look at you strangely.

Wow,my guy I don't know what streets u walking ,clubs that u go in,or the hood the u wondering around ,but let me tell u few things
1.black ppl are in Romania since 1990
2.many Romanians have a lot of not just black ppl as friends but all over the world
3.I will never look at any person like wow, black Chinese,Asian, wherever
4.older generation, that's a good point, because in case of u don't know before 1989 our borders was shut,as a romanian citizen to leave the country was all most impossible,so of course they don't know much about
5.as a romanian I know the dif between black ppl,but if I go in Ethiopia and I'm asking ppl about Romania, maybe 5%will say I may heard about ,rest nothing, that doesn't mean u discriminate us,u can't ask a person to survive in a sea if he never swim
Next time I will advice u to research more,we ain't got no issues with anyone,as long as u respect our culture our families ,do whatever u want ,simple as

LOL .. there are like 3-4 black ppl in my town ...from 100 000 ppl. YEAH. Ppl WILL STARE.
One of them is a kid, his mom is romanian , but he looks like his dad - curly hair, realy realy black...I saw him on the street .. he was about 4 yo... EVERYBODY was staring at him - I mean EVERY man , women or child on that street. He looked miserable and angry as hell.
I saw him a couple of mounths ago in a school yard.... he is a teenager now . He was with some boys his age , joking, laugthing ,..... he looked like the star of that group.
He is still the most watched persone on the street , but I got the feeling that now he is proud of it ...... kind of like the most beautifull girl on the class who knows everybody will look at her.
I guess you just have to find your place in society and feel good in your own skin.

You know why Romania has much more less crime than UK or USA, because they don't care if people call them racists and they don't allow everyone to come to their countries. The economy is much better in uk or USA but at least in Romania you don't have to worry about black people or people from middle east stabbing you or shooting you

Europe and America are very different when it comes to racism and skin color... There are racists probably everywhere, but it really isn't the same and we don't have the same history. If anything, we didn't really have slaves and the ones we did have weren't even of African origin (with some exceptions i guess), they were mostly from Asia (gypsies), and they weren't even slaves in the true purpose of the word, they were just nomads that never integrated into society and were doing low level jobs and crafts for next to nothing (some of them still do today, and despite of LOADS of programs and help packages etc, a lot of them still choose a life of petty crime with no education) ... It's very different xD

If your White or European you will automatically be attacked by use of the AntiWhite slur "racism" no matter what country your from or what your countries history is. They're just hateful so don't accept their slur of racism.

Bro, as a Romanian, I can guarantee you that people, woman or man, stare at you because we are trying to figure out how big your D is :))
Like you said, there is difference between people from same country. We have lots of "redneck's" in Romania aswell. Just visit Bucharest, Constanta, Timisoara, Cluj, Oradea, Sibiu or Brasov. These are the most important towns anyways and here the culture is more divers.
    Good luck man!

Nu este o parerea sunt in prima linie si vad aceasta ipocrizie in fiecare zi la black people..
