To be fair to Kobe, he scored 81 at a time where teams were averaging 97 points a game (from 2001 - 2008ish, scoring was only in the mid 90's). Luka is playing in an era where teams average 110+ points per game. Not taking anything away from Luka, but Kobe's 81 will always be legendary too.

I don't know if you watched the game but there's no rational argument for saying there was no defense played on Luka this game. Guys were doing everything they possibly could and it didn't matter. Overall year scoring is up but a lot of it is just how efficient offenses are. Sure you can change a rule or two to allow what rightfully are fouls to be considered "defense" but that doesn't change the fact analytics have completely revolutionized the game's offensive potency. Defense needs to adapt next to keep up, they're lagging behind the curve compared to the offense.
