Let me know what other tests to make using this plugin! I'll probably try using the Joshua Bell Violin, maybe some percussion instruments, and maybe some home recordings.
Happy to see you've also found this gem of a plugin! I've used it since its release and am incredibly impressed with it. You really manage to get a cohesive sound from the different libraries here (glad to hear you've chosen one of my favorite pieces in the classical repertoire for this demonstration!). I tend not to use the A-B mics much, but I find that a small amount of the surround mics can add an extra layer of immersion. I also tend to add a small amount of long reverb tail (Large Hall, 2.3 s) using Seventh Heaven or Cinematic Rooms if I want to achieve more of a concert hall sound. Berlin Studio blends seamlessly with the tail reverb for a coherent symphonic sound. Oh, and I hope you feel better soon!
@@AlexHeppelmann I've experimented a bit with size, tail, ERS settings, but mostly decided to go with the default values. However, I do find that the delay setting for the source channel makes a big difference. Adding a bit of delay there can bring the direct signal perfectly in time with the Decca tree mics (a common recording trick, apparently). Peter, the developer, has promised to post the exact delay values at some point, but the ones I know so far is 14 ms for the woodwinds position and 7 ms for the 1st violins. Experimentation should bring you close enough for the other positions. As a first test, try placing a really dry instrument in the WW position and compare the results between 0 ms and 14 ms delay. Depending on the samples I use, I sometimes make some EQ cuts in the low register to prevent boominess in e.g., pizzicato basses. I hope this helps!
Very interesting. I'm conducting similar experiments with MIR Pro3D and getting similar results. All of your combinations work very well in fact you've made me want to upgrade from BBCSO core to Pro so I can get close mics and integrate with MIR.
Unbelievable. Maybe you should write to YT. Same thing will happen if you use those loops an midi files they try to sell you when you first start your music career. Thank you very much for the test that was very interesting. Personally I am an addict of LiquidSonics 'Cinematic Rooms Pro' and 'SeventhHeaven Pro' (I know it's a different utilization but classical sound coming out from CRP is out of this world).
great test. does it work the other way around? if you have an airy percussion library without adjustable mic settings. can you make them more dry or more in the front? thank you
Alex, I'm curious how you handle managing your CC data. Do you record modulation into every part in real-time? Copy/paste from a midi track into all your instruments? It's something that I struggle with often -with a ton of tracks it can be cumbersome to manage all of their modulation independently.
Nice mock up of Schubert's Unfinished Symphony. The ironic result of the Berlin Studio reverb plugin is it doesn't matter what vst you use, the spatial placement, mics and hall reverb lift any vst to the same quality which is clear when you then compare the vast differences between instruments when the plugin is off.
Haha, sorry Jett! I did this a bit too quickly perhaps. I think I'm just using the spiccatos for the violins. Keep the velocities extremely low, and violins 1 and 2 do not behave the same way, so you have to program them differently. Also take a look at how SINE cycles through the round robins.
It could be either -- though I've been using just the Tree Mic to blend an instrument in with my other Teldex instruments, and then using Cinematic Rooms as a tail on my entire mix
@@AlexHeppelmann thanks! i mean, does it just add reverb or it completely re-mic the original signal, like it was recorded on a different-distant microphone?
@@infundomaris I think it's mostly just a convolution reverb plugin, with multiple Impulse Responses based on microphone positions at Teldex. There might be more going on under the hood that I'm not aware of. I'd say it's similar to VSL's MIR 3D, if you're familiar with that.
Hey, thanks for video! I had to wait about 2 weeks before I got a working version. It's all good here, now. I would have liked to heard the HZ strings panned in the plug - in to match your OT strings. Just my anal retentiveness! Thanks, again.

Try playing some of the OT soloists woodwinds as they were recorded at Teldex iso booth rather than the stage.

I don't have MIR Pro 3D, but a few of my students swear by it!
Can't believe this video was hit with a copyright claim! Apparently mockups of public domain works are getting claimed now...

@@guyshard I use Cinematic Rooms Pro as well! It's awesome, and I'm glad I have both berlin studio and that one.
I've had this happen too. I simply contested the claim and it went away.
Alex, did you transpose this piece from scratch or is there a midi file available? I’d love to study it, I love it

Not unless you have a close microphone position available. Which percussion library?

I usually record it in, then edit to make cleaner. Then lots of copy / pasting between tracks!

Thanks, I really appreciate that. Feeling a bit better each day!
@@AlexHeppelmann a hug..from Argentina.
Thanks for doing this test! How are you finding the cpu load? Are you using multiple instances of Berlin Studio Reverb or a single instance?
You're welcome! I'm using multiple instances without any trouble, but I know some people have reported cpu issues.
Hi mate beautiful piece!
Which strings library you used here?
Thanks! I can't exactly remember, but I think the strings are from Berlin Strings and Metropolis Ark II
That break in the legato between measures 2 and 3 really bothers me LOL. But this sounds amazing. What BS articulation are you using for the violins?

Is this plugin similar to re-mic Ocean Way Studios plugin?
Can't say I've ever heard of that one!

what strings library is it?
Very nice! I heard this piece before but i can't remember the name. What's the name of this piece?
Schubert's 8th symphony!
