    Tubi is popular because of the content it has. Not just a lot of older content but a lot of newer content in the last few years. Pluto TV is another one but Tubi is out pacing them now to me.

    Tubi's been concentrating on delivering good entertainment choices to consumers while other streamers/stations are stuck in the old business mantra of maximizing ad delivery and ad revenue. Tubi keeps expanding their selection of movies (my reason for watching a streaming service) and their search function makes it easy to search that extensive movie catalog on my older SMART TV. I like that they don't show ads as often during the slow times of the day (prime time is loaded with them just like all streaming channels) so I can watch a movie during the daytime with minimal interruptions.

    Tubi is brilliant offering free originals and will be the first streaming "network," and FOX replacement. It's a matter of time before they are profitable and can sell programming abroad.
    Eventually, I expected TUBI shows to run on FOX to cut costs as broadcast gets older viewers not comfortable streaming.

    Tubi, to me, is popular due to Fox's heavily advertising it across their networks (almost as heavy as Fox Nation). Tubi provides both free live TV and a fairly large VOD library; which instantly gives it more leverage over its competition.

    • @SergioImbarlina
      @SergioImbarlina Před měsícem +1

      Facebook completely subverted the internet. First they told everyone to come to their platform to reconnect with long lost friends, relatives, and colleagues on their site. And so people did. And it grew. And it got people to post their real names and real details about their lives because of course, reconnecting with people typically leads to wanting to share these things. Remember back in the mid 1990s when it was generally understood never to use your real name on the internet because hackers & scammers (& now doxxers) could more easily target you? Then Facebook started appealing to businesses to move their online storefronts to their platform. Truth be told, it is alot easier to update a Facebook page than to update your own business's webpage outside of Facebook. So businesses came en masse, and their reach grew immensely. All was good for the most part...for a while. And then a new generation of developers and admins that were steeped in alternative views of how social interactions should work came to be employed at Facebook. And they started throttling, suspending, and terminating accounts, both personal accounts and business accounts, that said anything they did not like...and they veiled these actions under the nebulous terms "community standards" & "safety initiatives". If you study social movements throughout history, you start noticing a pattern that includes creative use & re-definitions of words & the disappearance of dissidents and undesirables. De-platforming is the latest permutation of this practice. So none of this should surprise - it all has historical precedent. So now you have a site that has funneled a significant portion of all internet traffic into itself, acting basically as the Suez Canal of the internet, and it became, just like CZcams is now, capriciously hostile to its users who also happen to be its content creators.
      TL;DR: Facebook & CZcams are now hostile to users, but users, by and large, are too used to using them to do anything about it.

Regarding streaming & cord cutting, he got a bit of infamous notoriety a while back by inventing and selling a DVR/early streaming-type service called Aereo that allowed you to watch TV shows at your own convenience (it got shut down by court order for violating copyright laws), and a recent insider trading scandal involving Activision/Blizzard.
