    Note: I mis-spoke about the magazine release of the Walther. It includes both the paddle-style and push-button controls. I thought I had corrected myself, but I didn't. Sorry for misinformation or confusion on that! I'm a bonehead.

    I have a Walther P22 with a .17 drop in barrel. It's been flawless in both calibers firing from the same magazine. Excellent little gun. Very reliable, accurate and affordable. Best of all it has that great Walther feel.

    I have the kel-tec 22wmr. The mags were the worst. I used dry lube to help them with no luck. I finally tried 3 and 1 oil not much better. They should stay single stack. Fifteen rounds of 40 HP isn't something to scoff at.

    I was searching for a polymer 9mm and was fortunate enough to find a range in St Louis that had all the options for rent. As a sidebar to all you range owners, at this place you rented the range-not the firearm, so you could fire one and if it wasn’t “your cup of tea”, ya could ask for one of the other options 😊. Once I placed the HK VP9 in my hand, I was done! So, since the Walther’s ergonomics was a close second, I’d have to give props to the Walther here. Ergonomics = impressive on-target hits and regardless of caliber, that’s the whole “shebang”.

      Unfortunately I’m not one of them. Just came back from the range and after 200 rounds it’s going back to Walther. Cleaning the gun thoroughly prior to shooting it as recommended and using recommended ammo, Fiochi and Federal. It was a disaster. Both mags would not feed many failure to extract and I had to cycle the gun almost every time by hand. Headed to Bass so they can send it back for repair.

    I bought the Walther and it went back for feeding and jamming issues the same day I bought it. The magazines would wiggle over a quarter inch side to side. Poor design flaw unfortunately. Had the gunsmith where I bought it from confirm it was an issue. I even sent the video to Walther showing the magazine slop and they said there was a problem with it. It’s sat at Walther for three months until they refunded me. They told me they were replacing the pistol after they watched the video . I kept being told they were waiting for parts after it got there instead of replacing it . Then I was told they were sending me a new pistol again . Three more weeks went by and then they told me there was nothing wrong with the pistol! Horrible customer service. From what I’ve seen on the Internet it’s a pretty common problem with them.

  • @chuckschmidt3522
    @chuckschmidt3522 Před 6 měsíci +1

    I think the accuracy of the Walther was definitely better! Your shots with it were more centered on the steel and the S&W shots were low, and you had misses. The shots on the orange dots were both a bit disappointing but if I'm going to be off I'd rather be a little high than low left. My next step is to check and see if one or both offer adjustment on the rear sight. I would consider a red dot on either but I am concerned about the extra weight being an issue with cycling rounds. I also like the fiber optic, blacked out rear combination and have no trouble shooting iron sights so not having a red dot wouldn't bother me. I'm shopping the two of them right now so I appreciate the video and the information. Thank you!

  • @mikemchugh949
    @mikemchugh949 Před 6 měsíci +2

    Excellent video my friend. I personally agree with most everything. My walther 9mm PPQ is an amazing firearm but I chose the S&W mainly because of mag capacity. Walther stayed true to their incredible ergonomics but sacrificed 15 rounds to do it. That was too big of a difference for me. By the way, my S&W also shoots a little low and left. It reminded me of when I 1st started shooting handguns and was pulling the trigger wrong. Another great reason to own a handgun chambered in 22 mag is the cost of ammo. At any given day i have about 1000 rounds, however, they’re so fun to shoot, those 30 round clips can really eat up some ammo quickly. So my final opinion is much the same, you just can’t go wrong with either a Walther or a S&W, two heavy hitters in handgun manufacturing.

    I'm leaning toward the S&W M&P but I wonder how long its barrel/piston gas seals will last. Or would it be a matter of getting a new, maybe tighter barrel sleeve it wear happens? Are both coated with a very hard, long wearing coating? IS there a preferred lubricant for the barrel gas seal rings? Finally... how much gas blows back to the shooter with the S&W? That's important if shooting a lot.

    WMP is manufactured by Umarex, not Walther proper. Umarex produces these pistols at their facility in Arnsberg, Germany, as indicated by the Three Crowns roll mark. If it were made by Walther directly, it would feature the Stag or Antler roll mark from their Ulm production site1. So, while the design and quality align with Walther’s standards, the actual production occurs under Umarex’s expertise. The slide is aluminum vs steel in SW.

    I’ve had six Walther pistols with the latest being the WMP. A note on my WMP: my original had several issues on my first couple of range trips,re: fte, ftf and a couple of ares on the bottom edge of the slide were a little chewed up. I contacted Walther who responded immediately and had me send the gun back for evaluation. In a week they sent me a brand new gun, no questions, no charge. The new gun is flawless and I love it. This was the first Walther pistol of mine that had any issue whatsoever so I’ll just chalk it up to a gun getting past Walther’s QC. The outstanding customer service from Walther only reinforces how customer focused they are. I’ve had Glocks, HKs and Sigs but Walther is my choice every time. **I really don't consider the 22 magnum in anything less than a 10-inch barrel a worthwhile gun, or at least one I'm willing to pay money for.
    **But the Walther weighs more cost more and has half the magazine capacity, the only bonus it brings is a dual and ambidextrous controls.
    **If Walther would have taken their P22 pistol with a 5 inch barrel and turn that into a 15 round micro gun. That would have been the ultimate bug out bag/get home bag gun.
    **Kel-Tec needs to take their CP33 design, and upgraded it to fire the 22 magnum with a 10-inch barrel. Then I'd buy that over a Smith with a 10-inch barrel.
    **Now if Smith took the 22 magnum design and Made a 22LR version, with a 5-inch barrel I'd buy it.
    **What Smith really needs to do is take their other 22 long rifle pistols and upgrade them with the new 30 round mags, except for their butt ugly victory pistol.

    The Walther W(I)MP. Marketing guys are just hopeless. At one point Nissan sold a PAJERO in some non-Spanish markets 😂

    No my friend, Walther and S&W are not the best manufacturers. In Germany, Walther ekes out a niche existence in its own country. The best manufacturers worldwide are CZ, SigSauer, Heckler and Koch.And Korth. Korth is very expensive, but one of the best!

      It also depends on what kind of gun. In the world of revolvers I’d say S&W is at the top, along with Colt. Other than that I’d agree with your list.

      @@Doriamo Sorry my friend. Here in Germany we have the Club 30 of gunsmiths who refine S&W. One of them lives near me. He says that if a customer wants to buy a S&W, he orders 10 revolvers from the wholesaler. He usually sends 8-9 of them back because they are garbage. He then works on the remaining 1-2 revolvers so that you can shoot them properly. It costs something, but with the strict gun laws in Germany, you want weapons that work.
      Of the 7 S&W revolvers I own, 2 were not bought through Club 30. I've had nothing but trouble with them!

      @@user-lu1xi5mu5t that’s crazy! Revolvers are usually pretty reliable, even cheap ones. What exactly was wrong with them? Do you know when they were produced? I know during certain periods the quality wasn’t the same with S&W but that happened to Colt as well. I’ve heard the newer guns from S&W, especially performance center, are really good. Same thing with Colt. I bet Colt will get even better now that CZ owns them. Who would you say makes the best revolvers?

    • @user-lu1xi5mu5t
      @user-lu1xi5mu5t Před 7 měsíci +3

      Well, it's with the new Stealth Hunter from Performance Center, built in 2021, that I have the most trouble: barrel screwed in crooked, front sight wandering, rear sight fallen off, bad timing, rust on the trigger and hammer on the new gun.
      But the most annoying thing with all SW revolvers was the bad timing of the cylinder! In this country, you are really lucky to have a gunsmith who recognizes all this before he delivers the gun to the customer!
      I don't want to criticize you Americans! Nothing is further from my mind! I like your gun laws! Only the quality is a bit modest. I have a German-made P220 and an American-made P226.
      Guess which gun shoots badly and is of shitty quality! Not to mention the feel.
