I am not even LEL, because I'm not a legend. Just play my standard AI-games alone from time to time. I like T90's videos, no matter what. LEL is fantastic, because I can relate. But I also love community games to get a glimpse on what good players can do. Really appreciate how empathetic T90 is towards noobs. There are the laughs and the sarcastic statements, but it's always respectfully funny. Good stuff, thank you!
Fully agree, I think I enjoy LEL a lot for the exact reason that I am below 1k. It's fun to be able to relate and to laugh at us, including me.
Is it bad that I'd like to see some games of some low elo legends fighting valiantly but losing to the AI?
Thats what i was hoping for haha
>.>
That would be sick
That’s me every time I play against hard AI :(
Viper did some matchup against extreme AI when DE was released, that was quite fun
Yellow likely didn't see his friends messages. You get overwhelmed by all the different things you don't recognize on the screen and chat messages are just more clutter to the screen for a new player
I’d love to see more matches with some AI. Perhaps 6 low elo players VS 2 difficult AI :)
That is a great idea
why would that be entertaining, iam like 500 elo and i beat the extreme ai consistently, its an ai...its predictable
Thats a great idea. I d surely like to see people struggle.
@@tupacshakur5868Do you castle drop the AI? I’m about 800 and I could only castle drop them, if I go late game I lose. On rank it’s the same for me😅
@@tupacshakur5868 i only managed to beat the extreme ai when i reached 900 elo.
I have no idea why you are capable to kill the extreme ai but not a 700 elo player.
Most low elo players should struggle against strong bots.
Dude like standard AI could have just been a town center sitting there and the game would have been the same 😂😂😂
The yellow gate is no atempt to wall the ally... its a arc de triumph... a sign of their friendship!
I'd love to see a tournament of ai v ai where each ai is an individual coders attempt to make the strongest ai possible
ChatGPT vs Bard lol
there's a big tournanemt going on right now from the AI scripting community. It's close to the final, so only the best AIs are left!
you can watch it at www.twitch.tv/aiscripters
When machine says: i will adapt depending on the situation
It mean, eliminate all biological life forms.
The difficulty of AI is primarily based on the max number of villagers it will build. standard AI stops at max 20 vil, moderate AI stops at max 35 vil, hard AI max 70 vil, hardest AI and extreme AI both go to over 100 vils.
i think fighting the AI is a great way to develop skills. in pretty much any game the AI starts well then seems to hit a brick wall and you end up steam rolling it. once you hit that stage its time to up the difficulty and focus on your early game again.
focusing on efficiency and build order is the most important thing imo.
I'm not too sure about that. I played against a lot of ai and it's very different. Take for example in this game red not aging up to exploit that the ai doesn't age up. It sets you in a bad mindset if you plan to fight players. You make build orders that don't work.
It depends. The AI changed a lot, and now they made it play a lot more similar to (good) human players. Before DE the higher difficulty meant the AI was cheating (getting extra resources for free) but still had horrible tactics. Now the AI does not cheat, but plays really well.
In the HD edition I could easily beat the highest difficulty AI, or even several allied hard AIs, but switching to DE I first had trouble defeating the AI even in normal (as it surprised me and I wasn't expecting that sort of playstyle), and even now I have to play meta to defeat even the simple hard AI (if I start trying something on my own, I get crushed, I really have to follow the meta build orders to stand a chance)
@@praevasc4299 the simple hard ai is pretty good, for some reason I find it easier to play hardest and then extreme is harder but still exploitable.
@@TheLastSoundNL if you do that you arent developing skills. i clearly stated its a good way to develop skills. i never said its the best way to learn how to beat the best players but you can ask any decent player of the game how they first developed skills and they will tell you how
T90 I know Burcht. Its my friend Henry Burch. We all started playing again.
Idk why but seeing the AI communicate with each other in their bot way through chat is so cute
I think the AI talking to itself in those cryptic messages is probably a form of logging, so devs can debug replays more easily.
I know and love the game since I was a child (I'm now 31) and I cannot dominate the modern hard AI in a match. I have never made proper efforts to improve and I think it may be a bit late for me to do significant progress now, but it's still my favourite game of all times. I'm trying to absorb some pro tips here, but LEL and CGs are a lot of fun to watch. Thank you for casting these
I am 34. Never played aoe2 as a child. A friend introduced me to the game 3 years ago. Now I can beat hard AI consistently. Still lose to hardest and extreme AI in late game if I let them boom. I think It is never too late to learn some basic build orders to improve. 😊
Omg this totally happened to me and one of my boys I got back to aoe. Basically word for word what you said Tristan "hey check this dude do you remember this game?
"No freaking way man is that age of empires?!?
Bromance rekindled.
Me and jonessb still do this, we dont have a lot of time anymore and ranked is fun.
But its good to warm back up :) 😅
Funny though, he's probably better than me now 🤣
This was my childhood, I played both AOE 1 and 2 solo as a kid when they came out, and always against AIs.
Now I've convinced three other friends to try DE and have fun playing 4 v 4 against medium-hard AIs. Brings me great memories to play again and now with friends
Hi t90! Thought about commenting my story.
We are 3 siblings in my family and we have about 4 years of difference between each other. When we were younger, only my two older brothers played each other when they were like 19 and 15. My oldest brother used to crush him.
As I was the youngest I didn’t really play with them because the normal game seemed too hard, but I did play scenarios online where you only have to fight with armies and never worry about maintaining a normal economy, so I can move units kind of well.
Now after some years, each of us with a family, finally started playing together because for some reason, a lot of videos came to us about this game. My brothers watch a lot of Hera videos and I watch yours and SotL
Reminiscing about old times, we decided to play together once I got my new computer. Now at my 27 years old finally got a computer.
My oldest brother is still better than us as he never stopped playing, but only plays like 5 games per week as he has two daughters, a wife and a regular job.
Me and my other brother still try to get better but we have not stopped being deadweight for my oldest brother as we keep losing ranked team games lol. ❤
We have been having LAN-like parties every Thursday and having lots of fun and stress, playing this goddamn game that I remember when my father bought us the original age of empires and the age of empires 2 plus the conquerors, it’s a little bit crazy to think about.
Thank you for the content, the entertainment and the knowledge, I hope to ever get really good and keep having good times!
we have a group of people that play AOE2 definitive edition together, 8 in total. Some friends and a few of their fathers. This is the only game that can pull us all together. the ocassion all of us are available at the same time for 2v2v2v2 or 4v4 or a big free for all are unfathomably fun.
Doing "Guess the AI" sounds like an excellent idea.
I got my buddy who never heard of AOE to get it and now hes obsessed. All I did was stream it on discord for 15sec
I once played an Arabia game against the AI and discovered that, for some reason, the AI got stuck on switching between two villagers and sending them to collect wood for around 30 minutes in Feudal age while I got to the Imperial... That game was weird, one of the rare occasions I had to go back and watch the replay to know what happened to the poor guy.
Mate! bringing back memories of getting the first aoe in a nutri grain box! i definitely didnt understand how truly privileged we were back then getting age of emipires in a flippin cereal box!
I love playing AI games. 4 vs. Extreme AI matches can be fun :). I also do 3 vs. 5 Hardest AI with people. That one is really interesting on Team Islands. The initial landings when everyone is in Imperial is nuts - a crazy fight to establish a beachhead.
For some reason, 4 vs. AI is extremely popular on Asian servers. Not so much on US/Europe servers. And they go hardcore on those Asian servers. Up to 150% handicap for the AI.
It’s about min maxing the macro. It itches the part of the brain that demands control.
I really wish AI could handle water maps better, especially where they have to build across water/migrate, so many maps just don't work with AI
@@Frost_Saber Yes definitely. The AI on water is pretty bad.
I wonder if there are any 3rd party AIs that are better on water - I'd love that.
@@m1garandMUSIC AI has been great practice for my Late Game. It often comes down to "Can you keep up production?" when you're facing the AI.
It taught me to spam out tons of Stables/Ranges/Barracks. I used to only build 2-3 lolol. So there is some value in playing against the harder difficulties of AI.
AI is just awful on water maps like team islands. Did it the other day 2 vs 6 hard ai where my friend did land attacks and I controlled the water. So I 1v6 the AI on water and win cuz they're just that bad at it. Sure they spam out a lot of ships early ish, then they agree to run into ur castles and gg u got the advantage from there
I can't believe T90 can make this interesting haha. Such a good commentator.
Love the videos i never really played but my dad would rage over this game when I was growing up 😂 I can still hear the in game music to this day it still gets stuck in my head.
Would like to see more content about man vs machines
I have gotten a bunch of my boys back into this game! we all used to play the game in 1999-2005 and now we are back at it :-)
I started playing AoE2 shortly after it came out and 20+ years later im still awful lol
True of most people who do the same thing for 20 years, it's why promotions based on seniority are a bad idea
@@bluedistortions Correct! I have learnt a fair bit watching T90 over the past few years but only started playing proper again a month or two ago and honestly, I just play casually with friends against AI.
No one else need suffer my incompetence other then those willing to do so
i had Lethal company main menu music in the background while watching and its amazing how much that music goes with the fast forwarded speed of the AoE replay. hilarious!
Bro went feudal after 24 min lool
1:59 dat sketch! :D I laughed out loud and gave a standing ovation
Legend of Fatslob brought me back after 20 years! Cheers T90!
I love how you are still excited about that monk statue! 😅Keep zooming in on stuff, I haven't noticed such details either
I never considered this type of match to be casted but am so happy to see it
Oh this is like where we started with a friend when we got back into aoe2 in the summer. We are up to 2v2 vs extreme AI now, playing a few games a week.
Please also remember that while there are people who dislike you or LEL, there are also people who love you and LEL. I'm low elo myself so I empathize much more with these players than with players in tournaments.
On Standard the AI will wait for the human players. So once the Human player advances the AI will then follow as well. They also aren't as aggressive or trying to counter as much. Once you start playing against Hard or Hardest AIs when they start to make counters and advancing on their own and even rushing. Granted their rushes are always during the castle age.
Some of my earliest memories were playing (watching) AOE 1 with my oldest brother, we got AOE 2 and I grew up playing it, I got to play AOE 2 DE a few times with him before he passed away, AOE is truly a generational game.
The AI has adopted the strategies of the Berry Thief
I've seen this before, the AI was *definitely* bugged because of the map. That's why it stopped producing villagers. Ai doesn't like custom maps at all.
In the pandemic I started playing with some buddies of mine again. We used to play it, when we were 14 yo, and we came back after 20 years :-D I personally got back into it earlier though: 2016/17 through videos of SotL, ZeroEmpires&Res22 and finally T90❤
I've got a buddy into AOE2 and we play a bit vs. AI since he doesn't like playing against players. It wasn't getting back into the game since we're both GenZ but still love it.
I think if you're trying to sell AOE2 to a potential new player you try one of these approaches:
"What is your favorite country? Good news: they're in the game! They can do X, Y, and Z cool things."
"You think elephants/castles/trebuchets/knights/archers are cool, right? Well, if you play [civ name] you can [cool stuff]."
"You really enjoyed [movie or novel about a historical figure or event], right? Well, there's a single-player campaign that recreates that. And if you enjoy that then we could play some team games."
You Sir brought me back! Watching few random videos of yours made me want to play again.. after almost 16 years. 🥺
Now I daily follow You, thanks!
I remember reading about the AOE strategy first in a local Czech PC magazine back in 2000. It wasn't much, but already surpased many of the low elo legends here. It said you should first take just food from the sheep and only then make farms, then some wood in dark age and wait until feudal to first touch gold or stone. I don't rememer it saying anything about boars, though.
I still played the game like an idiot as the advice from the magazine was just very basic, but I guess enough to beat the guys with elo 15 or so, or maybe even 60. Some people are idiotic enough not to even read this basic advice from the gaming magazines and blindly play it wrong for 20 years, starting with gold and sheep I guess in feudal.
I played AOE from 99 till 03 I restarted playing last yearv after watching LEL on this channel, also got 2 friends back to game.
Playing vs the Standard AI is so easy it isn't just boring, it's a waste of time
Man vs. Machine LEL but you don’t know which is which
“Hidden Sippycup”
Also, that town center hitting a max of 12 notification the AI gave was likely the farm capacity for that individual TC
The AI in general tend to focus on flooding units than any other real strategy and get constantly hooked up on building navy (if their difficulty allows).
They can still be a nice "sit back and chill" kind of game if you aren't in the mood for the attentiveness that fighting humans requires.
They make absolutely trash teammates, though.
GG I learned things too! Thanks, T90. 😎
2:00 I got the AoK demo out of a PC Gamer magazine 11
Got the Game of the Year edition at the beginning of 2000, first game I ever got with my own money (still have the box, the all-important key and the tech-tree foldout).
I saw HC3 and started playing with my brother again back in 2019, then one of my buddy's played with us that used to play at my house in 2004ish, then 2 new to the game friends
It looks like the AI started research on feudal right after red did because they knew he started it with hax, but I wonder if they're smart enough to cancel fuedal age if red had canceled it, or if they would have kept going with it. (Is the trigger that they can't start researching it until one player does, or that they can't complete it until one player does?) You might be able to trick the AI into an early feudal and mess with their economy if you can cancel aging up against them and they don't also cancel it.
Pro strats, one day we'll finally beat that standard AI.
T90 how about Bot Elo Legends? Basically anything fun to watch vs AI matchup :)
Yeah, standard AI isn't great. If you can score a silver medal on those feudal rush/fast castle tutorials you can easily beat them. They responded to my fairly early aggression with appropriate force so I decided to boom a little bit. Turns out that the little bit of resistance was all they had. The AI never got more than 25 or so villagers in that entire game. I kinda smashed them with an economy quadruple the size.
This game was more 1(red) vs 3 (AI + yellow)
Standard AI will not click up to the next age until the human players do
I once won a game against the intermediate AI thru waiting, I had a wall with a castle, on both ways, and it just kept sending troops to attack, losing everything, and after a while it just surrended, I think it was just fed up with me.
I just started watching aoe 2 again. I havent played since 2011 and really wanna get back into it! Could you maoe a returning player guide for us old school people confused by all these new civs?
I came back to AoE during the pandemic thanks to some friends. But it was too intensive. I prefer these vids instead of playing
When I started out I followed something similar to yellow. I learned that all resources are finite (as opposed to other games I played before, like Settlers), and I was really really afraid of exhausting the resources too quickly. So I only had a very limited number of villagers per resource, to not exhaust them too quickly, and then my strategy (against the AI) was to limit losses as best as possible. This meant turtleing to the point I could defeat any incoming wave without losses (playing it basically like a tower defense game), and after that I made an army of trebuchets, and then sloooowly inched across the map, defending all the way, until i could defeat the AI. Good times...
Would make a good ten hour match. Let the AI take every resource to exhaustion while Portuguese turtling. 😂
@t90official
I'm 32. Got aoe2 gold edition on my pc in Jan 2000. Played for about 3 years. Came back about a year ago introduced by a friend abroad ❤
I'm pretty sure standard ai doesn't age up until a player does and I think red is exploiting that, so yellow can at least get something done.
Sadly no one from my friends play AoE
First time i played was in my uncle house, he had i think english demo version, i was probably less that 10y
Tutorial was in that time hard
Some time later when i got my PC i bought CD version AoE 1+2 with DLC, translation and tutorial video
(I dont know if AoE1 was broken or bugged, but it was so slow to do anything, i coudnt win anything, i hated that game)
Sadly i was always plaing with cheats
Aegis - instant build/collect
Marco - show whole map
Polo - show map without fog of war
Robinhood - 1k gold
But it was still one of the best games
That's a really neat map.
Yeah so jumping back in, I was 12 when I played age of kings. Standard difficulty was absolutely where I started, and started seeing stats pop up for standard/moderate/hard.
They def plateau their villagers and army size at specific numbers. Like moderate go up to say 48 villagers, hard caps at 79. They don't build more than 3 castles on moderate, they all drop 12 docks but only make 15 ships for their biggest navy.
AI strength from standard to moderate is a pretty big leap, and from moderate to hard, in numerical terms I'd say standard is 1, moderate is like 4, hard is 7, I'm not even at extreme ai but I would place that above 10 on this arbitrary scale.
And t90 is absolutely on the money about teaching new players, they don't want to be pushed to level up their skills, it needs to be carrot on a stick type exercise.
We always play team games against Extreme AI... And personalized settings too... Empire Wars starting at post imp
I use to play this game about 20 years ago on my grandads computer when me and my brother use to go over there for the day!!! soo good to be back on it even if it is on xbox! 🙄🤣🤣🤣
I'm part of the 98%
I played online a handful of times back before Conquerors came out. Dial up didn't do any favors back then.
I feel so wierd when half the games i ve seen at your streams.
Huh.
I don't even know why i didn't expect that.
Damn t90 a homie fr
red was cheesing the fact that AI won't push in feudal age. Free eco boom
Does T90 do low elo legend teambattles? I'd find them very entertaining lol
Yellow make a palisade gate back in the day. This one didn't exist perhaps wants to see them
I played with bots against bots today , 4 hours game, 20 000 death units , 1 mil resources send only by me :D
03:06 nah, the "Hardest" AI is like 900 elo, Standard isn't much trouble for 700.
I feel like Red should tell his friend that the campaign "William Wallace" is the AoE2 version of a tutorial for the game.
Playing against the easiest AI and having Yellow figure stuff out by him/herself is interesting choice though.
On steam only 16.4% of players have the achievement "Complete the William Wallace campaign".
Do new players get informed by the game that it has a tutorial?
I think that stat might be skewed, since I would say at this point the majority of players have already bought this game at least once before and have already learned the game previously.
That campaign is whatever rlly, the real tutorial is art of war since definitive edition
Steam stats about achievements are not perfect
Maybe most people who buy new AoE2 are old players and just skip tutorial
I haven't played ww in de but did back in 99 on age of kings. Art of war is more useful now
Not something I need to see again but learnt a ton about the AI. Maybe do 1 vid for standard, moderate, hard etc but change the youtube titles accordingly and put in a playlist. thanks T90 x
I enjoyed the HC5 announcement in this video.
Thats how i used to roll. One vil on everything and we are done making vils. Look ma, im gathering resources.
These are some big brain noobs
random LEL video suggestion on youtube made me get this game
I managed to get my friend who played age of kings to get himself the de version and start playing with me again
I’m way too competitive to play this game. Which makes it hard to enjoy playing. Watching players like the Viper and Hera, makes me constantly feel like I’m really bad at the game. But…
I used to play this but I'm lowkey scared to come back. I would suck tremendously
How to submit our games to t90 ? I got some cool LEL stuff
This is basically me. Only I recently graduated to Moderate.
idk if they have nerfed the crap out of the AI. But im fairly sure they were completely bugged because of the map
It would be nice to pick the AI difficulty by ELO. And the ELO difficulty is based on real player data, and play style.
My buddy ask me out of the blue, said wanna rematch 😏 and I haven't touched the game in years 😂😂 and we have fun last time we played my ping was darting to 200-500 😅 we managed to game
vs ai is what I like to do, because I can kill standard but moderate makes me sweat
I remember I used to play against standard because I couldn't for the life of me beat moderate, no matter how hard I tried, Standard was too easy so I'd have to play against 2 or 3, but even just 1 moderate would destroy me. Now after learning some hotkeys and just started learning build orders, I can beat Moderate fairly comfortably 1v1 and if I play well enough I can even beat 2 moderates by myself. I even tried to play against a Hard AI and actually won on first try, I did a Burgundian Cavalier rush and destroyed its eco, Pikemen weren't doing anything.
Early rush is necessary to beat AI, it doesn't cope well when the stakes are small, and it manages too well when the scope is huge
We want more AI games LETS GOOOO
Jesus, AI that won't age up by themselves on a water map (where AI sucks anyway)... can the AI be any easier to beat?
That thumbnail is cursed lol
Dep-low, 4 players 4 AIs locked teams.
Team Fortress 2 Robots! theme Intensifies
Yeah 700ish elo vs standard was never going to be anywhere close. What elo is standard roughly? I'd guess like 250? Maybe 300. Can't be mich more than that.
9:39. not a bug. standard AI goes up to 17 vils.
