Excellent homily and reminder!! ♥️ The word _sacred_ means worthy of veneration and respect. By specifying something as sacred tells us that it is of higher value and priority than other things and, therefore, is to be treated with more care and deeper reverence with love for our Lord Jesus, our Blessed Mother, and all the angels and saints. I loved the little story you shared from the book “Our Lady of Kibeho” Father Mark, which is still one of my most favourite recommendations of your School of Reading. I get much mail soliciting alms from many Missions, Seminarys, Churches, etc. They generally have pictures of Jesus, Mary or saints. Oh how guilty I feel when I after reading and dealing with them, toss them into the trash. I certainly can't keep them all. I don't know what to do. 😇 Viva Cristo Rey 🙏
you are not alone my friend. Even though it is solicitations, I feel very guilty when images of the Lord or His Mother get put in the trash.
Interesting dilemma... perhaps a devotional paper mache project?
@@schmicknick I guess it would be best not to open them, as long as you are already being charitable in other means. If they are not opened, can you say you are discarding sacred images? Does plausible deniability apply here, especially if you "think" there may be an image in there?

I too am waiting for that answer.
While I share your sentiment, I doubt the images in these bulk mailings have been blessed, as they know much mail gets trashed or never opened. While I discard the paper mail by necessity, if it contains items such as a medal or rosary (which would still need to be blessed), I donate those to my church where there is a basket available with free rosaries, or to a church thrift sale where people may have them for free or a free will donation of any amount.

True! But the Catholic Church does not observe God's sacred 7th day Sabbath! It is not objects that God asks us to revere but His commandments.

This is why we are to act with reverence in Church- observing silence not chatting within the sanctuary, and kneeling while receiving our Lord in the Eucharist on the tongue only from the priest (whose hands are consecrated). Why we also are to dress modestly and appropriately (not sloppily as if we are going to a picnic or sports event) for church, and why women often veil (which is also scriptural). When we truly believe in His real presence, it shows by our manner and actions.
You are so right. I was SO shocked at the reaction of clergy when the results of the survey came about that reported almost 70% of Catholics don’t believe in the Real Presence. Anyone with eyes and ears could have told them. The average Catholic Church is the last place on earth you can pray in peace. People are practically shouting to heard before and after Mass. Some of the lectors and Eucharistic minsters are the worst.

Love this! I remember learning of the Kibeho apparitions prior to the genocide that Our Lady warned them about in their visions. So sad that we, as humans, don’t listen to Our Ladys warnings. If we all would listen to her call to fast, prayer, Eucharist, confession, read holy scripture daily - then His Kingdom would already be here. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✝️✝️✝️

Showing respect for sacred items: Most of my neighbours are atheists. One of them was tidying up some old stuff and boxing it to take to the tip. She found an old prayer book and could not dump it. She gave it to me to use.
If atheists can respect sacred items, I am sure we ought to even more.

I have 2 bibles. 1 I read daily and is kept next to my bed. The other was my mother’s my father got for her, a Marian bible in honor of our Lady. I had put it in my nightstand as it is in a somewhat poor condition, thinking I was protecting it from further damage. However after your sermon Father I will take it from there and keep it on my small prayer altar.

I always keep 2 pictures of Blessed Mother on my end table. I always keep those 2 pictures clear of all the rubble I pile up while I work during the day.
My sisters and I were talking about Christmas recipes and I pulled some out. I then went to youtube waiting for a response about a recipe. After I listened to Fr Gorings message I saw my recipes on top of my pictures. This never happens, but there it was . I quickly removed my papers. What an amazing reminder that Blessed Mother is ever present and sees us all. Those pictures are so important to me and Fr Gorings message made me think that Blessed Mother knows this. It was an instant message from Blessed Mother and her Son, Jesus Christ, whom I love and adore.
Fr. Mark you never cease to amaze me. You always get better and better. I don't know how you keep humble with all the praises you get from us. But you do it. Once I said, you are a Saint in Training, well so far you are doing great, Keep it up. Lol
