    Mississippi Great video Titus! I say the same thing about the number of calls on your lanyard. You need to pick your favorite mallard call and a good whistle is all you need. Love the widgeon whistle.

    Man. When you said dirt cheap call i said double nasty right before you said it. Im glad im not the only one that truly appreciates the double nasty. I have 2 versions of it and for the price it has blown me away for years since i started. I have more expensive calls but my double nasty is always a go to

    I bought the JJ Lares Timber Small Bore this off season and love it! I dig the range and back pressure it has. I’m with you on “matching the hatch” with your calls. We hunt public ground primarily in the north grasslands and being versatile is key. Very seldom do you run into a day where your strap is all green on public land in Cali. Great videos my man!

  • @SurvivingDuckSeason
    @SurvivingDuckSeason Před 3 lety +2

    Great video 👍🏻👊🏻💪🏻I’ve always been big on having species specific calls. I don’t wear them all, though. I keep them in my blind bag and wear the ones I need for the day. Duck hunting is so different everywhere, and can also change at different times of the season. Sometimes being realistic is the best way, sometimes being aggressive and manipulating the ducks is better. Sometimes it’s no calling. Reading the ducks is key to knowing.

    I have removable drops on all of my calls except my #1 mallard call. I have 2 mallard calls (acrylic & wood for tone/volume variety), hen teal call, & whistle. Those are my go to calls headed out to the marsh. I also have gadwall, diver, speck, snow calls in my blind bag ready to go with drops on them if I see enough of those other birds to get them out and just attach or replace existing calls on the lanyard. I do not like 6-8 calls on the lanyard getting tangled up with each other. I have super short 2-3 inch drops too. Helps the calls lay in a more consistent position rather than me fumbling and looking down to find my call. They're where I expect to find them without having to move my head. Minimizes movement and helps me get on a call faster when needed. Hope that helps!!

    I picked up the double nasty for this season and as soon as I blew it I was impressed. That's the best bang for the buck other than a red leg RL99. I blow those two calls and a duck commander Drake whistle. You can do different calls with a Drake whistle as well like pintail, widgeon, and teal.

    I blow a echo meat hanger it is alittle more on the expensive side, but it’s a very smooth call it doesn’t have a lot of range, but for a swamp whole, small impoundment, or timber it’s amazing. I also have the CQ2 by JT Calls another amazing call but still alittle on the pricey side. The CQ2 is my go to and you’ll always see me with that, my mallard drake from duck commander which you can do teal and widgeon with that, as well as my field proven Canada goose call.

I also like to bring out my wood honker call DJ calls u cant beat the sound of wood its different than acrylic etc. I think adding a diver call especially to our area with shulverras lol. The double nasty for me always has always been issues out of the box. constantly sticking with any amount of condensation built up till it completely seizes up and if you accidentally drop it in the water it’s useless has no high end it’ll break and catch a high note here and there this was my out of box comparison to DC, knight and hale, and haydells. I grabbed the double nasty cheap on the clearance rack one day and never will I get another 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Hey man, hunt out of Yolo Bypass. Debating normal bore T1 or hybrid. Any recommendations? I don’t need to scream at them... volume isn’t a huge priority. Just want ducky sound in a single read

    Most of my calls are over 40 years old, mostly wood, with the exception of a Primos "Timber Wench", it has the most realistic highball of any of my calls, and a Primos hen teal call. My Faulk's pintail whistle, which can work on widgeon & teal is approaching 50. I have a Faulk's wood duck call that is very old and sounds real but have had better results using the whistle end of a plastic musical "recorder" to mimic their squeals. Listening to ducks at a park or zoo is great and hearing them in the fields is, of course, best.
    I have spent most of my time and $ on deer hunting prep this year, but am always ready to get in a blind or stand under a tree.
    Best of it all to you and be safe.

    Billy Gianquinto, I believe is the guy you are referring to concerning the whistle. He used to come out to GL many years ago, and put on a little calling clinic. He'd sell his calls there as well. He's still around by the way.
    Get an Acme Thunderer whistle, knock the pea out, or leave it in for a Pintail call. Morillo whistle (wood) are great for Sprig too.

    Alright man so. Yes your right. Mallards don’t do high balls. They don’t feed call at 200 miles per hour. Your right. However, a duck isn’t NEARLY as loud as the quietest duck call on the market. Duck calls make sounds that are much louder & in some cases much more attractive sounding than live ducks. That’s why they work so well in the right situations. It’s like a hen mallard calling on steroids.

    If you want to imitate the real thing and sound like a duck you should really take a look at sweatline calls if you haven’t. They are made in Clovis, are the duckies call on the market, and Tony is an awesome guy to deal with. You won’t find better customer service in the waterfowl industry.

    Usually by mid-season I barely call very much at all couple quacks teal call especially when you're hunting around a lot of people on The refuge you know Johnny highballer flaring birds three ponds over and that's when they come over to my quiet little area and Ric flair trying to call the birds out of your decoy but that's refuge that's why I think motion spreader and quiet calling seems to work the best busy refuges and half the time those guys are using the wrong call for the wrong bird 🐦 love your channel keep up the good work hope to see you out there one of these days just got all my reservations in

    Titus please I don't even help you pay for it $125 bucks for a mallard call. Matt Pearson his Paul Kingyon style calls are going to be better than anything that you have ever used in the past I would guarantee it.
