Movie Poster Storage | Baroque Portfolios

- When I was in 7th grade, I started a collection that continues to grow today as I’m in my 30s. It wasn’t baseball cards. It wasn’t action figures. It was original theatrically released movie posters. Over a hundred of them. And today, I’m digging them all out of storage and working on a system to preserve them for many years to come.
#movieposter #collector #memorabilia
An original movie poster’s size is typically 27 inches wide by 40 inches high. That’s a big piece of paper.
I found a website called Baroque Portfolios (baroqueportfolios.com) that distributes high-quality storage portfolios with movie poster collectors in mind. The portfolios come in three sizes: 18x24, 24x36, and - the one I’ll be showcasing here in this video - 27x41.
Let’s talk about the outside first...
This portfolio has a black durable bi-cast leather exterior. It’s got a full zipper enclosure that protects your collection from dust and debris
On the inside...
There is a black high-strength metal multi-ring binder. It includes 20 double-sided oversized acid-free sleeves sealed on three sides with a pocket size of 27.5 x 41.5 inches.
For transport, it can safely hold up to 25 sleeves, or 50 prints. There’s even a convenient handle and a shoulder strap.
Since I was only able to fit 50 posters in this portfolio, which by the way runs at a little over $200, I had to be very selective on what made the cut. Of the hundreds of posters I own, I picked these because of two factors:
1. I love the movie
2. The artwork is fantastic
Of course, authenticity is something to keep in mind. To establish authenticity you can check the paper size, texture, and NSS information to determine the age of most film posters.
If a poster is an original print made during the film’s theatrical run, is double-sided, and is made with specific paper stock weight, you’ve got a winner on your hands.
Realizing the rarity and demand of something like this, I’m very pleased with this Baroque Portfolio and I highly recommend it to any movie poster collector out there.

Man I need to buy me one of these. I still have my movie posters from when I worked at the movies. And having one of these would be great to have. Cuz I really need to put my Lord or War, all jackass movie posters and the first transformers. I have others but those are my favorites that I own. Original theater posters. 😊
It's well worth it for all your favs. The company that sells these does take its time in sending them to you, but it's worth the wait.
Great idea. I didn't know this sort of thing was available. Sure beats trying to find one of those "rack" things where the posters are in frames and the frames are attached to a rack that you flip through the posters.
But WOW pretty expensive.
It's a must for poster collectors. I only collect signed artwork posters. I have 20 of them but can't display it all at once. This portfolio is perfect for storage.
Wow! Which signed posters do you have?
I need a few! This is awesome. I have a whole 80-90's collection of Marvel posters probably 300+ different lol. Knew a guy who printed them for Marvel in Philadelphia.
Thanks for showcasing that. I was looking for something for my posters. Stopped collecting once I left the theater but kept some classics like watercolor versions of the Star Wars 1997 re-release, original Transformer teasers (Optimus & Megatron), Terminator Salvation Burning Skull teaser and the complete HP series.
Fantastic video and collection you have. I been collecting posters since I was 9.
Thank you so much! Do you have a favorite poster?
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
You are very welcome!
thanks. cool portfolio. I have. ben. collecting. since. I was. 10. Happy. NEW YEAR sir
Thank you! I bet your collection is awesome. Happy new year to you!
We're gonna need a bigger bag 👍👍✨
I stumbled across Baroque on accident and glad I did. Recently started buying/collecting movie posters and now I know what to buy.
I highly recomment this!
@@DaneNeves Appreciate that...these are definitely a game changer to displaying movie posters.
@@tyreezy87 Agreeeeeed
You need to add some old classics in there. Plenty to choose from, but probably not as easy to come by.
Ahhh yeah. Maybe one day. The posters in this particular portfolio are of movies that shaped my childhood and teen years. So, they're extra special to me.
I was at a car-boot sale (flea market) recently and there was a woman selling old posters from when she worked at a movie theatre in the 90s. I was really interested in buying some but for some reason I didn't end up picking up anything. I think it was because I was overwhelmed by choice and didn't really know where to start with it all.
Sounds like a goldmine. Which movies do you remember her having?
@@DaneNeves She must have had almost every movie released from 94 - 99. The posters I was eying up to buy were for Tank Girl, Herucles and some Nickelodeon movie (a strange selection in my opinion)
@@archive6094 Hope it was Good Burger lol
That mars attacks poster is incredible! How do you even find that?
It's one of my favorite posters of all time. I honestly don't remember where I got it from. I may have ordered it from a magazine back in like 2000.
When you said a poster is double-sided does that mean the image is on both sides of the poster (possibly flipped)? I was imagining that being the case depending on which side of the theater a poster was displayed on.
Yup! It's the same image only mirrored (one side is "normal", the other side is "backward") so that when you shine light through it, like how the movie theaters' display cases do, the image pops.
I have a portfolio like this, but I recently bought a flat file with four drawers, I'm thinking of storing my posters in the flat file in the Baroque sleeves for some extra protections. Any thoughts on that?
I think that's a viable option if you're planning to stay put. The reason I got this portfolio in the first place was that I was about to move to another state and wanted to bring my favorite posters with me. If you've got the space for drawers, go for it!
I am growing my poster collection
Thank you. I have been looking for something like this.
Your opinion please... Not knowing where you live of course, I am in Australia, what I am seeing locally is that cinemas are no longer hanging paper posters. They have all switched too screens. I have been collecting posters for decades which were actually hung up in the cinema during a movies run. Pin holes, creases and all. To me they are 100% authentic and used for their intended purpose, the promotion of a film. I was told the other day in a facebook group that these posters are basically worthless and collectors only want pristine mint versions. Ones that have never seen a cinema. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks.
Oh that's interesting! I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. I just saw Avatar the other day and was checking out the posters. They were still traditional paper posters. And yeah, I would imagine posters that have pin holes or folds or tears or were once displayed outside of a proper frame would have lesser value than ones that were kept in better condition. It's just the way things are, I guess.
Does this system put kinks into the posters that occur by turning the pages?
Do you worry about the posters getting bent in wonky ways when flipping the pages that might cause permanent indents or damage ?
Nah I don't worry about that
Hi, If I want only sleeves to stick it on the wall what product should I buy
Oh I'm not too sure :/
WOW Now That’s An Awesome Video Of The “Movie Poster Storage | Baroque Portfolios” Good Job & I Love That “Movie Poster Collection” Inside The “Movie Poster Portfolio” I Gotta Have One Just Like It For When I Get My Own “Home Theater Room/Man-Cave” :-)🎞️📺🎥🎟️🎬📀🧀🥤🍿🌭🍭🥨
I live near a movie theater that throws their posters away, I get them for free from them instead of them throwing them out. I don't actually make that much money from my job, I don't make enough to buy these portfolios but I have well over 100 posters from movies over the last couple years, I put them in tubes but the older ones have slightly worn down edges because the tubes don't protect the edges obviously, any idea what I can do on a low budget?
When I was a kid collecting movie posters, I only had 5 frames (27x40) hung up in my room. I had a ton of posters and I would occasionally swap out posters in the frames depending on my mood or if I got tired of seeing what was already up. Maybe you could find some frames at a thrift shop and do that? Rotate the posters out every month or so?
@@DaneNeves That would be nice to do and I might get a few frames in the future, but that doesn't exactly solve the root problem of the edges wearing down inside of the tubes for the older posters.
Do you weigh the poster to check the authenticity? and if you do, how do you go about weighing them?
Awww no I don't weigh them. I didn't think about weight being an indicator.
Can I travel with this on an airplane or I just need put the posters again on the rolls?
You can probably check it in as an oversized item. It can get pretty heavy and awkward even without the posters inside.
How do you store the portfolio itself, do you let it lay flat under a bed or is it hanging on a wall?
It's still in the shipping box, leaned up against a wall at the moment.
My only hesitation about getting this is that I thought I would be able to lean it against a wall in my closet for easy access because there isn't room to lay it flat under my bed. How much would it bend if it was leaned against a wall the tall way?
@@ocallaghancolin94 it bends quite a bit, I recommend finding spot to keep it flat or install two hangers that can hold a good amount of weight to hang it
Is this something I can use for Band Posters also???
Sorry for the late reply. Sure, any poster would probably fit. Are you talking about band posters like the kind they sell at Hot Topic or Spencers? Those are slightly smaller than these movie posters, but you can still store them in this portfolio. The company that makes this might make smaller portfolios for those band posters.
How do you get your posters so flat? I had mike under books for a week and the top and bottom curl slightly
I just store them in regular shipping tubes. They were a little difficult to slide smoothly into the sleeves, but they flattened themselves out pretty quickly once they were in there.
@@DaneNeves are autographed posters safe to store in these?
@@nirvanarocks83 I hope so! I don't have any autographed posters to test this with.
Yes they would be, because Baroque's website mentions the sleeves are acid free so they don't damage any paper over time.
So you just placed the curled posters straight from the tube int the sleeves of the portfolio?
Where do you purchase movie posters from? Any recommendations?
For the ones I bought, I used to get them off this website called allposters.com. I also got a lot of free posters from attending advanced movie screenings. For the Disney ones, I subscribe to a Disney movie rewards system and a lot of their redeemable prizes are posters. So...most of the posters in my collection were given away to me.
Can you simply go to a movie theater and ask for one of the posters they use when the movie is done with its theatrical release?
@@anthonykelsey7842 That's worked sometimes for me! Depends on the theater, really. Some of them are under the careful watch of the studios, who require them to return all their posters/displays. Other theaters sell their old posters for charity (like $5 each). Or...if you know someone who works at a theater, you can ask them and maybe they'll be able to hold a poster aside for you. ;)
Player 1
Are you ready, Player 1?
I have thousands of original movie posters that are available for sale. I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Do you have a want list of movie posters interest you?
Thanks for the offer! I'm actually not in the market for any more posters at this time.
where do u get ur poster frame
I got it from baroqueportfolios.com
What is the best website to purchase PREMIUM HIGH QUALITY Movie posters ?? I purchased a few posters and they are in bad quality.
Oh I'm actually not too sure about that. I used to get posters from www.allposters.com/
where is the link to order?
