- This video has been made to help you fix your Mazda Flip Key. The blade becomes wobble and it doesn't flip out anymore. Also the tab breaks that keeps the two halves together and this will also fix this problem.

Just wanted you to know your video is still helping people out, I ran into literally every problem you showed, no one was willing to cut my new blank so I decided to use my old key and was able to make it work, a watch pin remover helped a ton, I destroyed my old casing banking on your information and it worked out! I just want you to know I really appreciated this video.
Well done. It's alays a bit twitchy when you go past the point of no return with the old case! So glad the info was good for you and thanks so much for the feedback :)
Totally agree, I did the hard way and it works perfectly... Thanks
Another great video. Loved how the new spring broke. Keeping it real with no editing. This is the reality of this replacement. Keep em coming. Thank you.
Thanks Jason :)
You are by far the BEST TEACHER I have ever encountered. Excellent !
Thanks for you feedback :)
Thumbs up if you came here after reassembling the first time and the car wouldn't start because you didn't move the transponder.
Yes, it's really common for that to happen. Thanks for watching :)
Thanks so much for the video. I spent hours trying to figure out why the new housing for my key fob wasn't allowing my engine to start. Your video was the only one that I came across which mentioned the importance of the transponder. This was a great help!
Hi, thanks for the feedback, yes this it's easy to miss the chip as it looks like part of the case! Really pleased it helped you :)
Same
Yes yes yes! Thank you! Everything I needed to make my new fob work.
Like others here, I appreciate the information, the warnings and the details. I missed the transponder as well and once I saw this video, I was able to fix both the spring issue and the transponder in my wife's new key fob which I had attempted to "fix". I was resigned to take it to the dealer. Luckily I saved all the parts from the old defective key fob and the transponder was one of them. Saw your video, opened the new one again, swapped transponders and fixed the spring. The key is functional and "new" again. Sincere thanks for your time and effort.
Hi, you're welcome, thanks for watching and I really appreciate the feedback :)
Fantastic! Exactly the information that I needed in a well-presented format.
Thanks Michael :)
Great video- I just ordered the parts to fix mine based on your vid & will save myself about $200! Thanks so much!!
Nice and careful when you get the old chip out ;)
Big thanks for showing the way to open the key. Had a sticky key blade, all original. Jest needed a thorough cleaning. Your video helped me with the hidden screw and the parts going back together. Great work!
Thanks Joe :)
Not sure I would have been able to accomplish this on my own so I'm very thankful to you for the detailed how-to video.
You're welcome John, appreciate the feedback :)
Excellent video ... this is the first one which mentioned the transponder! I hadn't transferred it so that was the problem. I have now done that and the refurbished key worked right away. Good encouragment to persevere with the spring. This has saved me probs £250 quoted by dealer.
Thanks for the feedback David, glad you got there in the end!
Thanks for the great video! I was about to go crazy trying to figure out how to put my key back together in the new casing that I bought for it. For some reason you can't find any good tutorials anywhere! I Did what you said and it worked and I didn't even know about that transponder chip. Of course mine was glued in, so that was fun taking out. I finally broken the old casing and the chip went flying across the room and I thought that was the end of it! Luckily I found the chip put everything back together and now the new casing is working! Thank you very much you are the man!!!
Hi, thanks for the great story ! I'm really glad it all worked :)
Thank you so much for this guide. Straight to the point and no bullshit. Wish everyone made guides like this
You're very welcome and really pleased it helped :)
Thanks for the video, I spent like 3 hours working on mine and eventually got it, thank God. The hardest part was easily getting the transponder out, as it seemed like mine was partially glued in. Ended up having to dremel away most of the plastic around it until the little scraps fell off. The replacement I got also had just the right sized hold for the pin for switching the key blade out. Thanks again for the help!
Hi, yes glued in transponders can be a headache, glad it helped :)
Excellent tutorial, I had given up on the spring ...thank you!
Yes that's the tricky part! You need an extra hand :)
Thank you sirrr!!!!!! My car was stuck at a local circle K after turning the key to start the car it just snapped in to pieces I couldn’t get it to start so i looked on CZcams and found you and you solved my problem 🙌
Great story Rocky, thanks for sharing, are you in the states?
Brilliant you covered every possible eventuality and my key now once again works perfectly
Great news Keith, thanks for the feedback :)
Thank you Very much. That spring was driving me crazy until I saw how to put it back. Good work.
Thanks Antonio, yes you need an extra hand! Well done getting it working :)
Brilliant! Your videos are really clear and helpful, thank you so much for posting these.
You're welcome Nick, thanks for the feedback :)
I cannot thank you enough for posting this video.
You're very welcome, really pleased that the video helped you and thanks for the feedback :)
Thank you for this video. I was struggling with placing the spring until this video.
Hi, yes you need three hands really! Glad it helped you :)
Thank you for this thorough tutorial! I was wondering where the transponder chip was and how the bloody hell to take the top part apart! You save me a couple hundred dollars of getting a brand new remote and reprogramming.
That's why we made it! So glad it helped you and thanks for watching :)
Perfect video! I just about gave up, but you explained everything so well. Thanks a ton!
Thanks, yes this key can be a bit tricky, but if you take each step slowly, normally you can get there! Thanks for the feedback :)
Brilliant 10 out of 10. I had no idea how to do this. My Subaru is quite intuitive to do. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for the kind words, Glad it helped :)
Thank you for making this so easy for me. It's people like you that makes life a little bit easier :-) I really do appreciate it. Take care
Thanks for the feedback, really pleased it helped you :)
Thanks so much! You helped me fix my key... transponder is a very important point.
Hi Victor, well done for fixing your key, it's a bit fiddly!
Thank you so much!! Very good video! I was able to get my daughter's key back together after it was dropped. The key feels a little wobbly right now when extended. I'll just tell her to be very careful with it.
Well done. They aren't very good design to be honest
Wow you went to a lot of effort to fix this key. Well made video. 👍
Thanks, hopefully it will help
You are the best !!! Struggled to fix my key and did not realize that there is Chip which should be also transferred too. Wow, Thanks now I don't have to call someone and reprogram anything
You're welcome Nabil, glad it helped you :)
There are so many issues with this mazda car key. People rip the key apart instead of pressing the little nub which is in the side where the key sword sits. So one hast to tape the key together 😂 thanks for the tutorial I simply had to remove pocket lint from the inside to make the key slide again. Works like a charm again.
This video was so easy to follow! I was finally able to fix my key 😅 thank you
Well done Jesica, really pleased you got it fixed :)
Just learning about the screw behind the Mazda logo was enough for me to pull apart the key, remove a little piece of broken plastic inside and put it back together. Now it flips again. Thanks!😊
Thank you so much. Lowes cut my blank key blade for free!! When I tried it in my mazda it wouldn't turn the car on. However, it did turn the a/c, radio on, etc. That's when I searched online and found your video. After watching it, I realized I'd not put the transponder chip in it. I had thrown that part away. I had to pick through my wheelie bin and low and behold I finally found it. Right at the bottom of course! Anyway, I switched it over to my new shell auto fob and it worked! My car started!! Yippee!! Thanks again!!
Hi Snikpad, lovely job going through the bin! You're not the first and won't be the last. Really pleased it helped you :)
You helped me fix my key...thanks so much!!
Hi Jessica, well done, really glad it helped you and thanks for leaving a comment :)
Great video thank you for this! The same thing happened to my new spring, but I somehow managed to make it a new leg with some pliers (the old spring was gone a long time ago). I also used the whole metal part from the old key so I did not have to go through the pin thing. All the rest of your experience is very much appreciated. My key doesn't spring as efficiently as the genuine one but it's good enough still.
Hi Jeremy, as long as you ended up with a better key than before, I'm pleased it helped. Well done and thanks for watching :)
Apparently they've majorly changed the design of the key fob. I ordered a new shell a few yrs ago for my 2015 CX-9 and it was a direct replacement shell.
FF to 2023 and the ONLY thing that looks the same is the blade assembly.
I tried to switch the blade, but could not remove the old microchip without destroying the old Shell completely.
I was too worried that the new key Electronics would not work properly, so I did not want to completely destroy the original.
I spent half an hour taking them apart and an hour putting them back together!
I think what I will try to do at this point is program the new key Electronics to operate with the vehicle and if that works then I will go ahead and just have the blade cut as recommended in the video.
The most frustrating part of the new key shell is that they did not install the microchip in it. Otherwise I probably would have started with that scenario.
(While I had it apart I went ahead and painted the new microchip a different color and installed it in the new shell, so I won't get them confused.)
Since I had to take the key shell apart anyway to install the chip in it, I went ahead and gave a transfer of old parts an opportunity to work.
Live and learn.
Best wishes on your success.
This video was EXCELLENT. Saved me $450! Thank you so much for such a great instruction video!!!!
James, that is great news. Really appreciate your feedback :)
Second video of yours about these keys that has saved me :) You're a legend Car Key Man! If you were in NZ I'd pack it in and get you to do it!
Thanks for the feedback, Hope life in NZ is good :)
big thumbs up mate. You just saved me $200! I ordered the top part from ebay for $2 free shipping from a Chinese based seller, changed over the transponder and the best part, I was able to swap out the mazda key as-is without needing to get the replacement cut. A+
Glad it helped you Marek, well done on saving the money;)
Was your transponder glued in?
Well explained and shown in details. Thanks!
Thanks Ivan :)
Thank You for the video I just repaired both of my Mazda keys
Well done, glad it helped :)
Thanks man, i found no other video for replacing the blade ;)
Did it swap over ok?
Yes, no problem :)
Thanks alot man you saved me ... my key fixed after watching this
That's good news, thanks for the comments :)

You're welcome, thanks for watching:)
Hello from 2022! This transponder chip thing, you probably saved me so much time and money!)
I wasn't aware about it at all)
Hi, most people have no idea and then throw away the case, really pleased it helped you :)
Thank you for your video very thorough and to help me out and I got my car started
Great stuff Shawn :)
Thank you so much! Literal life saver!
Glad it helped :)
Wouhou! Did it! So glad you put up that video! Thanks a lot!

Great instructional video mate!

You just saved my life this morning
Well that's good to hear :)
Thanks for the great explanation.
You're very welcome, thanks for the feedback :)
I HAVE TO THANK YOU FOR THE PATIENCE AND UNEDITING THE VIDEO.
You're welcome :)
I didn't notice the chip... All together now in a new shell! Thanks
Great stuff Daniel. :)
Excelent Video !!! Just what I´m looking for. Thanks !!!
You're welcome Jose :)
Just dived head first into the rubbish bin to retrieve my transponder, should've watched this video first!
Love it! at least the rubbish hadn't been taken like some of our local customers! Well done for spotting it early ;)
adjusting the spring back together is very easy and its a simple trick. No need to fiddle around with it!
That's good you found it easy, reay pleased you got your key working :)
Thank you very much from Madrid!!!
Thanks for your Spanish comment! Hope the sun is shining :)
Thank you! The key would no longer 'spring out', thanks to your video I was able to open it, clean the internals (a lot of gunk after 12 years) and put it back together. Just like new!
That's great, well done on sorting it out
The Car Key Man we are having a ton of trouble getting the part to stay flush after we wind the spring and it won’t go back together properly. Any suggestions?
5years later and stillllll a goooodd jobbbbb
Thanks Dennis :)
Appreciate the detailed video. FYI, turning the key around twice deformed 3 springs. They just would not lay flat enough for the key to close properly with that much torque. The side of the spring that went into the key would eventually become too bent to stay in the slot. I had to go with turning the key around a single time and accept a 3/4 flip with my fourth spring. Don't know if my results are typical, but wanted to share them.
Hi Brad. Thanks for this. I've seen the spring deformation on other keys, just not on this one but it makes sense. Sometimes one turn eaves the spring action a bit limp, but maybe it depends on how strong the supplied spring is.
Great comments and appreciate the feedback, hopefully it will help others ;)
@@TheCarKeyMan Yeah, all my springs were after market. Did not know how to get the genuine ones that Mazda used. So that likely played a role.
Thank you Sir. Saved me $65.00.
Great stuff :)
I literally love you thank you
You're welcome Kara, thanks for the love!
Thanks so much. You saved the day and a shit load of money for me. 10/10..
Hi Nick, that's a great result, really appreciate you leaving this feedback :)
Thank you for this video, it really helped.
You're welcome Matrina :)
Awesome video, thank you!
Thansk Devyn, appreciate the feedback :)
Just got my new key cut, I hoped that changing only the body would fix my broken key, then turning the new key couldn't start because of the safety magnet. I thought that it would detect some sort of magnetic field on the PCB. Thanks for showing where the magnet is :)
Muy buen explicado, ahora manos a la obra
Thanks for sharing!
You’re very welcome, hope it helped you :)
Very helpful. Thank you
Glad it helped you :)
Thanks for this information. I found a much easier way to get that spring arm slotted into the notch. Use a tiny flathead screwdriver and use it to force the spring arm into the notch so that both arms are inside. You might only have one second before the second arm pops out. So in the meantime quickly lay the key on top and hope the spring locks in place. It worked for me on first try.
Thanks for this info, hopefully it will help future Mazda owners who are struggling :)
This video was done very well! Showing each step, options and possible problems. You did an excellent job! The radio frequency identification chip (RFID) is the size of a grain of rice. It is encased in glass then covered in plastic like the one shown. Or in the case of GM, they encase it in the keys plastic head cover. I would like to tell the engineers at Mazda/Ford, you guys did a beautiful job, creating a switch blade knife like key. Unfortunately it’s design is cheaper than a 50 cent Chinese watch! You welcome! I would fire each responsible for the design of this key and send you to replace roofs shingles in the desert for ten years, but unfortunately the roof would leak every time it rains.
Very good video. Folks handy with simple tools should appreciate this class-act video.

Thank you so much!
You're welcome, glad it helped :)
holy cr@p. i hope i don't break my spring when i get my blank flip key and put in the transponder. very very useful video!
Just nice and easy Dennis, if you're not comfortable doing it, find an Auto Locksmith to make you a spare first, so you're not stranded
Thanks Buddy!
You're welcome Glenn, thanks for watching :)
I had. Lot issues were it fell apart but will get new bodies again, great video
Only snag the body doesn't hold properly
Hi, yes unfortuntely some of the replacement cases vary in in quality.
Thank you for your reply
good video, thanks
Thanks Rodrigo :)
Great Video to make an old car key new thx
Glad it helped Robert, thanks for watching ;)
Thank you
You're very welcome, thanks for watching :)
weird! i did all this about a week ago and messed everything up, before i found online that i needed that chip to get the car started. had to give up on the spring. this video didn't show up till now?! thanks youtube! luckily, the empty key assembly is like 6-10 dollars on ebay so ill be trying again. now that i have a clear idea of what foolishness im getting into!
The spring is a bit tricky at first, you need an extra hand, but, it's just a case of practice. Let us all know how you get on :)
Jeeze, I was going crazy trying to figure out how the key was being authenticated to the car. I went through the trouble of swapping the blade into the new housing. Due to the issues with the rollpin you mentioned I had issues with that. I wasnt about to go back to the old one since the bit it pivots on was the part that broke on the original.
Did you get it working in the end?
Thank you very much for this informative video, I searched for a long time before I saw any mention of the transponder location and how to swap it over.
Is the transponder simply a little RFID pill?
Hi, yes that's it. Thanks for the comments :)
Spot on
Thanks :)
thank you
You're welcome :)
can't you just swap over the plastic part with the clip and skip the rest?
It looks like that part comes away from the key and transponder separately
Hi Harold, sorry I don't understand, can you explain it a bit further if you still need help?
Very Good.
Thanks for the feedback :)
Wow! Thank you.
Thanks for watching, did you get it sorted?
@@TheCarKeyMan Nope. I needed to get the key remade and programmed. The key was broken.
Thanks for guide. Very useful. My new cut key will start ignition but I can unlock doors with blade. Why so?
Did it work before you fixed it ?
Excelent video perfect
Glad it helped you :)
Great info thank you! I've got a key with that little clip broken too. I need a complete replacement case and a circuit board for a mazda 3 ts2 2007. Can you supply this?
Hi Geoff, no sorry we don't sell them
Brilliant, straight forward video.
I bought a Mazda 5 that came with 2 keys.
One is an original key where the trunk button opens & closes the ns rear passenger door.
The 2nd key is a replacement, where only the blade works in the ignition.
Once programmed the 2nd key is able to lock & unlock but the trunk button doesn't.
Also the original key stops working.
Once I program the original key, the replacement stops working.
Any advice?
HI, did you get this sorted out?
@@TheCarKeyMan not yet.
thanks for your video. but do not cut the key. just need a right size screw driver to push that pin out. you can fix it in 30 second.😊
Hi Leon, that's good that the blade swapped over. It really depends on the copy case that you have. Some of the aftermarket repair cases won't accept the old blade. Well done on getting it done and thanks for the info :)
Where did you buy the new key case from
another way to put that spring into position ,is to use a flathead scredriver to push into the right position
Thanks for the tip :)
Stupid question. If I use my fob daily it’s fine. If it sits for a week it won’t release from the fob. Very annoying to get out. Do you think grease will do the trick or should I rebuild the whole fob
i got a new replacement and got it together like a charm, with the spring being annoying until you get the hang of it.
however with the new shell i fell the key kind of sluggish when pressing the button and it actually stops halfway through. i noticed that it was some kind of gunk in the spring when I disassemble it and I was wondering if its a kind of lubricant or something like that? because if I try to wind the spring the second time I get a noticeble gap in the shell when trying to close it and it seems the spring dont like to be wind more than once and ends up unwinding itself due to lack of space of to much tension
Really not sure what the problem is, did you get it working ok?
@@TheCarKeyMan the aftermarket she'll might be tighter because it's newer. But it does not shoot up as the original because I notices the key has a slight blend and it not sits flush in the holder I need to scrape a bit in the key holder and around the key button to create a small gap
