- join me as i take the stage at the UK Drum Show. In this talk, i delve into the art of staying fully present while playing the drums, unlocking maximum quality and musical prowess. With a dash of humor, I hope this offers some profound insights into the inner workings of a drummer's mind. The thoughts that guide every drummer's hands (or not) are an often overlooked part of the chain. let me know in the comments if you've experienced something like this before yourself and if you wanna make it a part of your practice. all the best

This is the entire concept of mindfulness. Music as meditation is a beautiful and insightful approach. Thank you for this gift, Benny. ❤
What an actor is Benny Grab !! And what a drummer ! This Mr Benny Grab !!!
This really goes with anything in life in general... living in the moment instead of thinking about the future constantly :)
I think that this applies to every musician and not only drummers ❤❤❤😅😅😅
If you know the way broadly you'll see it in all things.

Such valuable advice! I’ve been noticing my mind drift when I’m playing songs we’ve played in my band 100s of times and that’s when the energy and vibe of the song diminishes! Mindfulness in music! Love it Benny! Keep bringing us these valuable teachings 🙏🏻
It's not about drumming only, it's literally about everything in our lives! We should be conscious and mindful!
being present and in the moment is so importand for a lot of things but especially music which is essentially a converstaion. You have to listen to what the others are saying and respond.
This is so true!
Great content. That part about Steve Jordan is spot on.
Absolutely spot on and amazing advice from a master.
i've noticed myself in this zone before, where every hit on every part of the instrument seems right..... feels right..... it's not super flashy or impressive to anyone, but you feel yourself locked into your instrument and your groove. it is a different kind of satisfaction, but it is very gratifying.
well said, Mr Greb
Everyone who grew up playing computer games calls this being in the zone, but if you want to look it up psychologists call it a flow state, it's worth looking it up, as there are techniques to get there
This is really superb life advice!
Magnifico.⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️
Really valuable and yet simple advice, thank you. I really like your old speeches Benny, could you possibly share the new ones in full length? Could you possibly share the new ones in full length? Share the new ones in full length? As some wise man said earlier, If you repeat something, you give it more value ;)
So you tell me that people could witness a masterclass by Benny Greb and that there was a full show of him being funny and giving great knowledge ? I need this in full
Proper words of wisdom, delivered with Benny's trademark wit 😊
I love your logical yet laughter inducing way of explaining the concepts you feel are important. Your clinic in Wellington, New Zealand several years ago was so informative and joyous. Memorable as! Drums for life!!
Love you Benny. Boogie.
I love this guy.
Benny Greb dropping another gem! Thank you for the perspective. Always grateful :)
This explains me all over! Lol am gonna try this and probably do what Benny did and laugh at myself but if it helps am gonna give it a shot!
Thanks Benny 😊
Fantastic point Benny! So true. That´s why I always have felt it is so important to feel comfortable at my seat when doing a gig. Every drum, cymbal etc etc is placed exactly where I want them to be, my monitor mix is where I want it to be, mics properly places etc etc so I also don´t have to be thinking about those things when performing...and at least those are things I can control, so I try to make my starting place as comfortable as it can be for me.
Great presentation! Thank you, Benny.
Amazing insight, thank you!
Awesomeee!! Thank you Benny!
Wow. What a wonderful lesson from a wonderful man on so many levels. Thank you Benny Greb!
Thanks for sharing!!
OH good I love it❤
Thank you for this lesson. As self-learning drummer this was truly helpful, God bless you.
Amazing advice! I will try it
Max Sansalone (aka. dimsunk) gives very similar advice in his DVD, and I think that's what stuck with me the most.
I was thinking about Max Sansalone, too - he is a master of making very simple groves sound fantastic.
Muy bueno! La mejor enseñanza de de todas. Sirve para todos los ámbitos de la vida.
Soooo damn true. Know what you are doing and it will souds like you know what you're doing
I like to sing along, either the bass part or the melody,
This is why mastering shuffles is so valuable to your drumming... each shuffle on each song has to have just the right 'lope', the right flow and down, up, and back beat..to do this you have to listen to each stroke and ghost note and relax... so you have to be really present... and this habit translates to other styles...just my 2 cents.....
C'est tellement vrai. Mais c'est le plus dur à faire.
This Cat is Mighty.
Well said, Master Greb. I have to burn that into my mind. Crazy, ´cause i now it from the camps😊
This can be applied to any job you have. Any relationship you have.....etc, etc...
Thanks Benny for the stop and think moment here.
❤
Its important for your whole life. In Germany we call it "Achtsamkeit". Stay in the present. Feel the way you are walking, smell the nature, taste the meal. Everytime, stay in present.
Thanks Benny, this point is so important.
Great! and what about the fills?? : )
In my mind, what this comes down to is practice until you absolutely cannot play it wrong.
When I play a show, I like to be able to enjoy it and not listen to my inner drummer telling me what to do. I can only do that when I put the hours into learning the songs until I know them upside down and backwards.
I would go see him just for the comedian show.
Where is Benny's netflix special?
Is this video about me?...
In Germany heißt das "Achtsamkeit"...den Augenblick bewusst wahrnehmen!
This guy meditates.
Wonderful, that's why asian thinker alway say aware
I know this feeling very well, except in my case it goes like this: “ There is a two bar solo coming up - and I’m going to rush it. Oh no, I know I’m going to rush it, because I always rush it. It is going to be embarrassing and humiliating and I wish we didn’t have to play this song because I always screw it up and… oh no! Here is the solo AARRGGHH! Damn. I rushed it and it sound awful… I knew I’d do it, I just knew I would” 😡😡😡
First
“Dave Weckl did it way better!” 😂
"...mnyah Dave Weckl did it way better..." Hilarious!
Awesome stuff. The problem is now I’m going to think about not thinking about drumming. 🫠
