this subject is a part of semantics which itself is a part of linguistics (or of modal logic which itself is a part of language philosophy. The boundary between linguistics and language philosophy is fluid)

0 if it's their native language. Higher for understanding constituency, meaning, and structure for second languages if they want a more patterned system. Sentence structure doesn't necessarily mean you'll get the intended meaning correct, but you will have a better understanding of what errors you're making and why certain word forms appear in the places they do.
