I've used this now to make about 30 screens, and while it works well for me, I would recommend applying some grease to the threads where the tightening handles attach. Because they are a relatively small thread, and the rod and nut are not hardened, they tend to gall and bind with the forces involved. I had to replace one of them after the galling got so bad it destroyed the threads. Greasing them makes the action much smoother, prevents damage, and will allow you to crank on them more, giving you more screen tension. Update: My process for stretching screens is now this: Setup the mesh and stretch as normal, checking tension, glue down two connecting sides and spray with accelerator. Then tension some more, then glue the remaining two sides. I find this allows me to get a higher tension on the screen. The limitation to getting a high tension is the mesh keeps tearing. I glue the sides that are already starting to show some tearing. At this point I'm averaging around 20-21 N/cm. I also recommend sanding the top sharp edges of the aluminum frame, the part the mesh bends over at the top. Doing this can help to prevent the mesh from ripping if that edge is sharp.

I pull some mesh out of the stretcher by the corners . Get good tension in the center but won't rip or come off on the corners.

Very nice. Very similar to the plans I had in my head but yours is simpler so I think I’ll steal your ideas. Haha 😉

It's crazy to think that at the beginning of 2020 the wood would of been the cheapest part of the build!
