    I collect football now but baseball as a kid. These look great, tons of fun and nostalgic. Hopefully he ditches the junk wax non HOF cards though. Not much you can do with a 1989 Topps Mike Mcfarlane except help start a fire.

    I started collecting in the 80's and the 84 Donruss Mattingly was the big card. That card was iconic. Great video and go Birds!

      That’s what I keep hearing. I love the design of the Topps mattingly - idk why. It was always a dream card of mine and this is the first I’ve ever owned. Such a fun rip

    Donruss probably made like 20% of the print run of Topps and fleer in 1984. Not sure why. It was also the first year of Rated Rookies. And Mattingly is one of them. The strawberry is worth a decent amount. I have sold 3 of them For $50 recently. Also its a really awesome design. And they're insane to get in a 10. I sent the nicest Mattingly ive ever owned personally, last month, to sgc and it got a 9. Im a don mattingly super collector. I've literally owned probably 50 of them. And this one was the best of all of them and it got a 9 and PISSED ME OFF. Cuz it is sooooo hard to get a 10 on. I got a 10 on an OPEECHEE and not Donruss!!!! And OPEECHEE cards from that era look like they were cut with a cheese wire. Its ridiculous man. Its why they're worth so much. Even raw ones are $50+ for a nice one. This is how crazy it is. If I had sold mine before I graded it.....I wouldve got more money from someone that thought it could be a 10 than it is worth in an actual 9. And PSA definitely controls those 4 (1984 topps, fleer, donruss and even OPEECHEE) cards pop counts. Imo. I won't even try with vintage cards and psa anymore.

    • @NicoSportscards
      @NicoSportscards  Před rokem +1

      That’s nuts. They must have a different grading scale for o-pee-chee bc none of their cards look good: even the 10’s look a little off on the edges. Thanks for the info on mattingly. Having it be a rated rookie makes sense as his most popular. I still love the topps one. The image of that card was everyone when I was growing up. Brings back great memories

    • @joedill4311
      @joedill4311 Před rokem

      @@NicoSportscards I think the opeechee just got a 10 cuz it wasn't the Donruss, so it wasn't insanely popular. If you wanna go on a cool wild goose chase, try and find a nice opeechee!! Like you said, they're NEVER smooth on the edges. Good luck man. I love buying nice cards 1985 and back for the gamble of grading tham hahaha. Keep opening!

  • @urban420cards
    @urban420cards Před rokem

    The 84 Donruss was a lower print than Topps and was hoarded because between 1987 and 2004 those packs were hard to find and some cards were sent in for grading and got altered status because of so many of them in screw downs.
