    Excellently and beautifully sung. The Book of Common Prayer (1662) has some wonderful and insightful words whether you are a believer or not, whether you are a Christian or not, and whether you have any thought of God and Nature.

    00:14 Man that is born of a woman Z. 27
    Man that is born of a woman
    hath but a short time to live,
    and is full of misery.
    He cometh up, and is cut down like a flower;
    he fleeth as it were a shadow,
    and ne'er continueth in one stay.
    3:11 In the midst of life we are in death Z. 17
    In the midst of life we are in death:
    of whom may we seek for succour,
    but of thee, O Lord,
    who for our sins art justly displeased?
    Yet, O Lord, O Lord most mighty,
    O holy and most merciful Saviour,
    deliver us not into the bitter pains
    of eternal death.
    7:35 Thou knowest, Lord, the secrets of our hearts Z. 58C (?)
    Thou knowest, Lord, the secrets of our hearts;

    shut not thy merciful ears unto our pray'rs;
    but spare us, Lord most holy, O God most mighty.
    O holy and most merciful Saviour,
    thou most worthy Judge eternal,
    suffer us not, at our last hour,
    for any pains of death, to fall from thee. Amen.
    (from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer )

    Because of the acoustics of the church it is impossible to understand the lyrics. Would you be so kind, and add subtitles to the video? The sound of the group is superb. I live in Budapest but have the intention to visit one of your concerts no matter what it takes.

    The sound is sublime. Brava. I’m assuming the two gesticulators would not carry on like that in a live performance.

    • @rogerogle4755
      @rogerogle4755 Před rokem +2

      Jennifer, this IS a live performance, they look pretty alive to me!. Your "gesticulating" isn't: regard it as using the body to aid the flow of the music and of the feelings and emotions generated by it. Many famous singers do it now, particulaly of older music, e.g. Philippe Jarrousky.

    • @jennifer97363
      @jennifer97363 Před rokem

      Hmm I’m quite familiar with emotional movement when playing or singing as I’m a pianist. This however, imo, is over-the-top movement and an unnecessary distraction. The performance must take ‘centre stage’ if you will. This is to a degree that looks pretentious.
      That said, again, the sound is sublime.
      Thank you for replying.

    • @robertbuckland3679
      @robertbuckland3679 Před rokem

      This is during a recording session, not a performance and one tends to increase in gestures basically to help imagining that there is some sort of person that is actually interested in what your singing other than the sound engineer...
      Look at some actual performance and you'll notice that the gestures are much less!

    C'est très beau d'accord. Mais depuis quand on se pose comme ça dans une église avec des pompes fluorescentes!
    la main dans la poche! Pour moi c'est rédhibitoire...pouce bleu vers le bas. Dieu merci, Vox Luminis a plus de tenue aujourd'hui. Et c'est un gilet jaune qui vous le dit.

  • @reginaldmolethrasher437

    I've watched several of these Vox Luminis videos now, and I think they're wonderful. A beautiful sound. But the tall guy - is he conducting or is he autistic? He should have more confidence in the fabulous sound they're making!

    • @gov.lancelyn3980
      @gov.lancelyn3980 Před 4 lety +2

      He's doing a spot of conducting, but a group like that are mainly making movements to help each other to keep the phrasing and dynamics as one. They are doing a job of work so nobody is concerned about how they look to a casual observer.
