    Vox Luminis

I'm a Purcell addict....a Certified Purcellholic.... there's no such thing as too much Henry Purcell.
(Bach & Handel were 10 years old when Purcell died early like a rock star).
This ensemble is representing Purcell faithfully and accurately. Nicely done.

A revelation. I have never heard Purcell played and sung like this, out of its traditional context. It reveals just how great and supra national a composer he really is. And never for a moment losing his English idiom. Brilliant.

What an amazing program. The selections, the pairings, and the order of performance are simply superb. Ensembles like Vox Luminis are the "nexgen" of early music. As we say in the US, "They are raising everybody's game." ;-)

"Mention spéciale" pour all three soprano singers, "acting" very well in concert, as it could be said. The recording has a very "nice tone", what always demands a particular effort. Well done !

Very very fine. It all makes me think of the prose preface to Gerard Manley Hopkins' famous poem "Henry Purcell". It goes like this: "The poet wishes well to the divine genius of Purcell and praises him that, whereas other musicians have given utterance to the moods of man’s mind, he has, beyond that, uttered in notes the very make and species of man as created both in him and in all men generally." The poem itself can easily be found online. Truly we are blessed by such music (and indeed by such poetry).

Can't better the musical performance, expression, quality of voices, only problem is poor diction. Very difficult to know what words are being sung. Vowels are smudged. Was it Morley who said that singers should learn to vowel and sing clean!
