- BREAKFAST has transitioned to fine art. To see their latest Flip-Discs pieces head to breakfastny.com/flip-discs
The Flip-Discs Display is the first ready-to-use kinetic medium. Its modular panel design allows it to be configured to any size, while the out-of-the-box software means you'll be displaying custom content within minutes of powering it up. - Věda a technologie
I keep on getting recommended these flip display videos… probably because they’re so cool
This is truly BADASS! Every time I see one it reminds me of the big flip-dot board used on Family Feud in the '70s, but this is way more advanced!
I see at least 4 "stuck" pixels ... is that typical?
Good eyes! The display in this video is actually our 1st Gen system that we created several years ago and was built from older panels we got our hands on that had resistors that weren't specified properly. Our new F1 panels we designed entirely from the ground up and has removed this problem, along with adding a lot of additional features to prevent any pixels from ever getting stuck. You can see those in action here: czcams.com/video/VFG1D7lVMiY/video.html
Wow. It's like DLP projectors but you can see it flipping the mirrors!
What camera 📷 you use to sense the movement of a person ? There is a camera beneath the display? How does it work?
I remember when I live honk Kong the bus that this type of display when I was a kid. And I was confused and in awe like why didn't they used leds and they look so clean to read like it was pretty hard to tell then flip
"...close to 30 FPS"
Frames or flips per second?
Cool tech!
Both Are Same here
I guess
Impressive!
Nice demo with the two dead pixels near the bottom.
I saw a lot more than 2 ...
Very Cool
Cool. I once made a software controlling that too. Alfazeta?
I want one of these :)
I want many of these. A wall made of these. to make something like those Stock Market walls to see my Viewers in my livestreams stonks
like the old game boy camera ! mono chrome live footage !
Why does every flip disc demo have dead pixels on the display?
Are there problems with reliability?
The dots are reliable = long lived. But each flip has a certain error rate, the faster you go the higher the errro rate.
Oh this is the company that makes em ok
How about DOOM on one of these.
I want one to display things like weather and news reports as well as the date & time, temperature. Maybe hook a camera to it and have a little fun.
i cant see the reason to choose this over a standart lcd display.
only 2 colors, low resolution, bunch of noise making moving parts that can break
is it so much cheaper on energie, purchase and maintenance ?
If you're looking for a screen to just display basic information, then yes, this we be a ridiculous choice. If you're looking for something to stop people in their tracks, supply them a unique experience, and give them something they're guaranteed to remember, we can promise you that this ticks all those boxes. If you're ever in Brooklyn, we'd love to have you by and see it in person. We'd bet it'll surprise you.
Per your mention of "parts that can break," we've had a display up in our HQ for 4 years now without a single failure. The discs flip via changes in polarity of electromagnets, so no moving parts other than the basic plastic discs (with a tad of metal in them to respond to the electromagnet).
Let us know if you're ever up for a visit.
@@BREAKFAST.Studio you guys have public demos?
great !
awesome
But can It play Space Invaders without screen tearing tho 😉
The foley track the whole time be like "CLICKCLICKCLIKCLICKCLICK"
Can I play portal 2 on this or Half life?
can't wait to play bad apple on it
...but can it play Snake?
Hi, just wondering.. can flip disc/dot made into very very smaller dots like micro size / nano size like LED pixels on phone or macbook? because i have some different ideas and concepts about this flip discs for small devices and maybe can be trends in society, who knows? What do you think? :)
It will be a noisy e-ink
its a bit gimicky, but still cool, id prefer to get a video wall to one of these, but there still rly cool tech
you misspelled neil
Also I have an idea: take 48 100x100 flip panels and make an 800x600 display. Then hook up some sort of microcontroller turn the display into a monochrome VGA monitor. Then hook up a windows 95 machine and set the color mode to black and white and BOOM! windows PC on a flip disc display.
Jack Newton lol..it can only produce two colors black or white..so different shades of grey is not possible to generate on this. So practically you can not produce same pictures on this in a compare to a old CRT BW display.
If the refresh rate is 30 fps you can flip them every other frame to approximate a shade of gray. This works due to persistance of vision in human eyes.
dithering
WAS THAT JACK WHITE
It is. Here's a longer version of the concert on our newer system: czcams.com/video/VFG1D7lVMiY/video.html
BREAKFAST Thank you so much! :D
Can i play Super Mario Bros on it?
We just did a Facebook live with the verge and did some mario. facebook.com/verge/videos/1267267656642908/ - go to about 4:00
nice did you use the display as a monitor for the game or is it more of a video playing?
Just played a video of some game play. We only have space invaders and pong made at the moment. Nothing that would prevent us from getting most anything on the display though, other than, ya know, work.
it would be impressive if they could make a RGB version of that display and then it would be perfect for retro games.
I think we all know the question with this...
Too bad it already has 2 dead pixels in the demonstration already.
smoking
csgo would go hard ont his
Why would someone buy this
