  • A seasoned Enduro rider teaches a young motocross rider the ways of Adventure, loading some basic camping gear onto their bikes and heading into the unknown.
Join Adam Riemann and Carson Bascombe as they take on the perils of Western Australia's South Coast. Impossible river crossings, endless sand tracks, torrential rain and a menagerie of erratic wildlife are just some of the challenges they face on their Yamaha Tenere 700 Adventure bikes.

So many awesome comments, such connection with the ride and video.
I'll continue to have a subtle dig at the 'carpark ADV' bikes , if only to promote the idea of giving your bike a chance to show what it's capable of in the offroad world.
And yeah, Carson is a racer and has never been scared to hold it on in sketchy terrain. He has all the makings of a Dakar rider. Thanks again everyone...

In 1986 my buddy and I took off on what today would be called an adventure motorcycle ride. I had a 1981 Honda XL500, and he had a brand new XL600. We were both "hardcore" trout fishermen who preferred to do our trout fishing where others did not venture. We would ride our bikes miles back into Forest Service roads, down deep and steep river canyons, ford streams, washouts and even take game trails to reach our secluded fishing holes. Mostly we fished the Feather River, Yuba River, Truckee River, Mad River, McCloud River, Eel River, Trinity River and Shasta Rivers located in Northern CA. One day we decided to do what then would be considered crazy. We decided to do a fishing adventure that would take us 3,300 miles over 15 days from my home on the border of Plumas National Forest to the Canadian border and back, staying off road as much as possible and camping out of what we could pack on our enduro bikes. Many items we split between us. For example I packed the frying pan and coffee pot and box of two cooking utensils and seasonings, while he packed a very small cooler to hold a six pack of beer, a stick of butter, an onion and a few potatoes. We each packed a two man tent, sleeping bag, our own plate, knife, fork and spoon, as well as two changes of clothes, a towel and small shaving kit. And of course a fishing pole and small tackle box. A couple of weeks prior we spent a few hours, and a few beers studying Delormes Topo Map books of Northern CA, Oregon and Washington. We picked a variety of routes that ran for miles along rivers and large streams with the goal of tying our ride to fishing as much as possible. We stayed as high in the Sierras and then the Cascades as we could on the way up. We couldn't fit the big Delorme topo books in out packs, so we switched to folded paper state maps and tried our best to recall what we had seen in the books that day with beers. We made a pledge that even though our goal was to get to Canada. We didn't even care if we made it out of California, as our main goal was good fishing. In 1986 cell phones, GPS, and the internet were only in science fiction books. We never knew where we were going to camp until each day one of us would say, "Let's camp here." We completely altered our course on the way back when we ran into another fisherman who had just been fishing for sea-run cut throat trout on the coast in Northern Oregon. We headed west and followed the coast, then chasing up rivers that emptied into the ocean. Over the 15 days we stopped counting when we each reached 150 trout each. Every dinner we had potatoes, trout, and beer. Every breakfast we had potatoes, trout and any beer still remaining in the cooler. Lunch was always in a small town where we stocked up on gas, potatoes, butter and beer, usually a sub sandwich if it was warm or a bowel of chili if it was cold and wet.
I'm 62 now, and still claim those 15 days as 15 of the best days of my life. It was beyond magical. We met so many cool people, got invited to full moon beach parties, barbecues, other's campsites. We met quite a few cute girls (including a couple who wanted to join us 8-). I'm fortunate enough to have retired a little early. This year I bought a new Norden 901 Expedition. I also bought a custom built off road trailer capable of carrying my Norden. I currently live in WA right on the US/CA border. I own a sawmill with stacks of maple, oak, elm, fir, pine and cedar lumber. The trailer I ordered gutted inside and will be doing the buildout myself. In a couple of years, I'm going to start selling my properties in CA and WA and will be heading out on what I hope to be an endless adventure that spans from Alaska to the tip of Argentina. Wish me luck! And if we run into each other, let's have a beer!

@@TourmeisterTWT already got some training and I do have a small dirt bike. I just need to get some experience now. The problem is that don't have who to ride with, and because of a few injuries, I'm weary of riding alone. But I'll figure something out. For the time being, I'll just keep getting inspired with Adam's videos.

To me this is what adventure bike riding is really about. Not being the urban cowboy. Finding new terrain away from the stresses of life. Doesn't matter your age, this is living!

I've been ADV riding since the 1990's in the Mountains of Montana around Yellowstone, in this video you really captured the essence, the feeling, the magic of that experience.
    Great job!

One thing that just mesmerizing is your riding style , it’s like an absolute work of art. Anyways buddy I love them and your the man and your spirit of riding and adventuring is like no other and I can promise when I get a chance or when my sons get old enough to hit the road with me then we’re definitely gone 👌🏼😉.

Just bought a Yamaha Tenere 660 -94, and and thrilled about going on my own adventures. Really love the bike just riding around on dirt and gravel roads.
