comments from the director and actors during the opening night - Zábava
The production of this I was in in college was cursed. Main actor got kicked out for being too method (asking us to water board him and throwing things at the director). Opening night the lead broke his collarbone in the last 5 min of the show. So smaller character stepped in for the lead and director took over the smaller actors part. Lead had a script on stage but it went ok. Then the last night the lead lost their voice from rehearsing so much to Learn the bigger part. So they had tea and a script on stage. I had to scream offstage for them in one scene because they just couldn’t do it. It would make sense that this play would be “cursed” as the subject matter really took its toll on us.
I wish I could have seen this with Tennant at the national theater in the costtesloe
If you make it to London some post-COVID19, you (kinda) can see it. You can watch a recording of the original production in the archive office of the National Theatre if you make an appointment. That's how I watched it in 2011. The only issue is, it was NOT professionally recorded; they just set up a camera near the back of the theater. So it kind of looks like a school play as filmed by yer dad. But I still liked seeing Tennant & Broadbent flex their craft.
this was probably my very best theatre experience, when I saw this one couple of years ago. really really great one!
I am so pissed off that I missed this production. I saw this performed at my college last weekend and it blew me away. Possibly the best play I've ever seen.
Last week I played Ariel in my drama exam!
It was so exhilerating to be graded for playing with knives, screaming and swearing at the top of my voice!
this play is the best. i've read it over and over. i've never seen it, though....
i just saw it today and you are correct, it is amazing.
they had that guy from the hustle and green street.
the acting was awesome.
i was sitting left of the stage and i swear i could have touched him if i wanted to.
anyone who lives in leicester, watch it because my preconceptions of the play were totally smashed today...im gonna take a mate of mine to see it in a few days.
i probably wont tell him that it scared the shit outta me, had so many jumpy moments.
im still a man damnit =)
x
brilliant, both this and Lt. of Inishmore
I played Michal in Reno at Bruka Theare and was the most amazing acting experience in my life. Thanks Brian Barney.
Would love to see this play performed live. A local university performed it a few years ago but I didn’t want to go alone. I shouldn’t have let that get in the way.
Ah I read this play for a theatre class. It's pretty brilliant...I hope one day I can see it performed.
holy shit... what a lineup, wish I wasn't seven when this was produced lol
I watched it the other day in Leicester UK. It was incredible
there was one at the curve with marc warren omg it is amazing! XD
just saw this tonight :)
it was awesome.
I needed Help after seeing this Play!!
I'll be playing Michal next October. So pumped.
You deal with it by dealing with Ariel. He's essentially your wind-up toy for most of the play. You need not react to his anger with anything other than a dismissive attitude or a weary resignation.
what happened to the audio on this? it used to be a great video.
Audio is slowed down. Video needs to be repaired.
I saw the argentinian version... and it´s excelent...
In my highschool I've been cast as Tupolski, can't wait.
CallSign I've been cast as Katurian
mmmmmmmmmm billy
I've been cast as Tupolski, frankly I"m not thrilled. From what I've seen from other productions the comedy element is too heavily drawn upon, I want to be more of an emotionless Interrogator, more of a sarcastic intelligence who uses humour as a method of getting to and breaking Katurian. I think I'll warm to the role, however.
anyon else come hear looking for karl pilkingtions favourite freak?
