This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us - "Weird Al" Yankovic

- This performance is included in the jam-packed bonus disc of the Blu-Ray release of Edgar Wright's amazing documentary "The Sparks Brothers." Edgar asked me to bring my accordion to the Q&A session and perform the Sparks classic for him, and I gladly obliged. I'm sure I could have played it better, but Edgar was happy with the first take - one and done, baby!

This Al ain't Weird enough for the both of us.
I'm gonna steal this line
Actually, this Al's too Weird for the both of us. :D
😂
You know, when weird Al first hit the masses he was literally weird to people at the time, but now he’s actually just a pretty chill dude compared to shit we’ve seen now.
He got popular at a time when weird was in, and somehow he topped them all. The late 70’s early 80’s were the weirdest times and the best of times for creativity and music.
You sir, are correct....10 points.
"'Normal' Al Yankovic"
What is weird is that he's remained relatively the same and is loved doubly so for it. He's a genuine gem.
It's like how "The Simpsons" was seen as a rather crude cartoon for relatively older audiences when it first aired, and now it's practically child friendly compared to the sick stuff they show on more recently created animated sitcoms for adults like "South Park" and "Family Guy."
It’s one thing to be parodied by Weird Al.
It’s on quite another level to be _covered_ by Weird Al. High praise indeed.
Sparks was so over the top that I can hardly see how they can be parodied. They were good also :) go watch original video for this song and read lyrics and you'll see what i mean
Presumably one of those thumbs up you got was from George of the Jungle.
Why yes CZcams, I did want to hear Weird Al covering Sparks this morning :3

I just had a terrible thought... Is there anyone even up to the task of being this man's successor? Even a spiritual successor? What's the world going to do when he dies? If someone finds the key to unlocking immortality, or something close to it in his lifetime, Weird Al needs to be the first person to get the treatment lol
@@GraemeGunn Absolutely
Weird Al once did an interview online where he talked about the influences on his parodies. The interviewer asked about “Virus Alert” and Al responded that it was a style parody of a band he liked called Sparks, specifically from the era of their album Kimono My House. I had never heard of Sparks before, but a recommendation from Weird Al is good enough for me, so I went out, picked up that album, and fell in love. Thank you Weird Al for not only making my life better with your music, but making my life better with other people’s music too.
Wow, so Weird Al likes Sparks. This man is amazing.

From listening to “Eat it” as a child to watching perfection on the accordion today, this man is an Absolute legend. While I have aged 30 years, this man looks like he’s aged 5-10 years. Like wine, this man just gets better with age, and he was always a legend from the start.

Weird Al's final evolution is still ahead of us and I'm strapped in!
40 or 50 years ago, this song was my 1st exposure to Sparks. Never heard the Weird Al cover till now. Truly a Joyously positive experience
This song is 47 years old. I remember when it first came out and seeing them perform it on TOTP, and my 3 year old mind being as confused as hell wondering if Russell was a woman and what Ron was on to be scowling at the audience and playing with a huge bandage on his finger. This song is like a Frosty Boy ice cream - often licked but never beaten. Though the covers I've heard of this song are pretty good as well.
This cover is pretty recent. It's part of the extra features for the Edgar Wright documentary about Sparks that came out last summer.
When I describe Weird Al as speaking to every generation of 13-year-old, people think I'm dissing him. But no, I mean it with the greatest respect. Anybody that can reach four generations, from gen x to whatever we're calling the kids too young to be zoomers, has done something monumental.
My dad, a Boomer, likes Weird Al, too! He introduced me to him through a Dr. Demento tape when I was a little kid and I have been hooked ever since. 🥰
I've never seen such work with accordion, and such enthusiasm while playing...Al you still amaze me.

You don't have to be weird to be weird, but it helps. Sometimes. In this case it's nice to see him do a straight laced accordion version of one of the greatest 70's rock songs.
I took accordion lessons as a kid. It's difficult to play. This man is a national treasure.
I think he should do a Master Class for the accordion .
Seriously Underrated Comment
And a Master Class on humor!
The world needs more Weird Al jammin' out on an accordion.
All that's missing is cowbell. We need more cowbell!
It is how he started..his dad too
And when the world needed him the most, he returned.
Long ago the four genres lived in harmony. That all changed when Pop-rock attacked. Only Yankovic master of the accordion could reunite the masses, but when the world needed him most he persists. Now 30 years have pasted and our hero looks like he's ready to outpace anyone. But I believe Weird Al unites the world.
Weird Al doesn't get enough credit for his songs that aren't parodies. I would like to see a compilation of all of his non-parody material.

Al proves that you can be successful even though you didn't have all of the advantages others have.
He grew up in a tiny house with no money. Bullied in school because he was 2 years younger than everyone. Bullied in college because he was only 16 and played the accordion.
Al is a kind and generous person. He's my spirit animal and I thank him for being such a good example of what a truely successful person looks like.

I’ve seen Weird Al live on three different tours and he puts on a fantastic show. He has a costume change for nearly every song and comedy bits in between. I’m so mad I missed his last tour when he was doing mostly original material.
I went to that one! No costume changes but it was still really good! Got to hear some of my favorites like "Larry", "Chrstmas at Ground Zero" and "Nature Trail to Hell". He even surprised everyone by doing a short polka rendition of several popular parody songs.
Agreed. I saw him at a fair in AZ in like 2008 and we paid maybe $10 to get in to the entire fair, Weird Al put on one of the best, most energetic shows I've seen; complete with costume changes for each song. I loved it.
I went to the Asheville show a few years ago. Really good!
@@jeffjones2463 There were costume changes with the "Strings Attached" tour (the last tour he did). It was basically like the old tours, but with an orchestra on stage as well paying along. There were no costume changes with his "Self-Indulgent" tour (two tours ago), where he played his original songs. For the show I went to, at least, he sat on a stool on stage the whole time, and just sang and it was amazing. Though, in my opinion, all his shows are amazing.
