- Even after Allen Iverson or Stephon Marbury, Brandon Jennings style as a scoring point guard was too ahead of his time and Gilbert Arenas thinks it's both the Milwaukee Buck's management and veterans' fault that they didn't let Brandon Jennings do what he was born to do. Brandon Jennings definitely pioneered & revolutionized how NBA culture is now. He was the very first athlete to sign with Under Armour & also the 1st to skip college & play overseas for a year. I honestly can't think of anyone else to do that before Jennings.
And he suffered from it. Should of went to college for that one year and beasted and he prolly could of been the first pick
@@MIGGYME1 he still went round 1 pick 11, don’t need first pick lol
Lmaoooo chillll
@@MIGGYME1 prolly better to go play over seas against pros
@@vincentvega9747it definitely helped his game more. He had to learn to show up prepared and earn minutes. He ended up scoring 55 in his rookie season.
Brandon Jennings = A lowkey cheat code on 2k10 lmao
Lefties always feel different in 2k
@@gravityfel7896 All facts. I used to kill it with B Jennings and whatever was left of Michael Redd lmaoo
@@Count_Up Bogut was a problem On That Game 😂
Jennings and Monta Ellis would used to put 50 on your head like nothing
My friend wouldn't speak to me for about 2 months after I beat him with the Bucks. I had Jennings run past his guys everytime. Lol!
Growing up playing AAU this man was every hoopers favorite hooper. BJ was a BUCKET

@oo70mar no.. the bucks had John Salmons who was dropping 18+, a young Bogut before the injury and Olympian Micheal Reed. They were the 5th seed that year with a major bogut injury
I agree . Some people needs a system that suits them in order for them to succeed !
Damn. Goes to show how the politics can fuck up some players careers
@oo70mar He wanted to live up to that AI hype
@oo70mar Yep he let that 55 point game gas him up till the NBA stop calling for him.
@oo70mar Big facts and what BJ also failed to realize is you can't really be you in a system that you're just playing in. Period!!
Nah the bucks let him cook...he just didn’t
This is bullshit he was horrible on the bucks, he was way too small and he lost too many games. Jabari Parker took the team from him. Michael red and bogut were already done when Jennings stunk it up. Drafted too high sorry but dude is a bust
Letting players play their style is important to the confidence & success of the players......imagine Steph getting drafted by the Pistons & a coach telling him too stop shooting so many 3s 😂
Or play defense.
Its less about obvious play like that and more about how to play with the skillset of other teammates efficiently. Do note the starting pf before dray took it was a healthy David Lee who was a solid running partner with Steph. Imo Bogut is underrated as Steph's first real PnR partner as their play together was smart and savvy. Kerr had the right idea taking the ball out of Steph's hands, capitalize on his spot up 3% opportunities, let Draymond play point and let Klay flow in between while making him a better passer. Bogut, Iggy and the rest of the role players found their niche and they were great.
💯 it still happens today....which is why players don’t progress or evolve.
@@unclerico1106 Curry is decenta defender I don't know why people think he not good at d you probably didn't watch curry more than 3 times in your life.

Respect bro!!
Rose used to fuck him up
Tyler Herro has a lot of BJ's game in him.
They absolutely held him back. He was balling for us. #LifetimeBucksFan
Gilbert Arenas and Brandon would've been good in today's game. Crazy how things change.
I wonder if he looks at DeRozan his fellow draftee and envies his early situation. The raptors allowed him to develop despite early struggles and his coaches pushed him to succeed.
Bucks let Brandon be a worse version of AI. He could have been drafted to a better team if he went to college instead of overseas.
@@andrebryant5081 I think you said something important here. College coaches play a big part in getting guys ready for the nba. They allow you to be your self , but with discipline and humility. It’s not just about one player. At least at the college level . If I make sense
Brandon Jennings gave me hope as a pistons fan years ago before he went down with that injury man.
Awww Man I remember he was putting up those 20 and 20 games sorry bro
he was showing his true point guard talents that year
As a bucks fan, was so happy to see Jennings thrive in Detroit. It sucked seeing him go down...
Imagine how different the NBA would've been if the Warriors didn't let Steph be Steph. Obviously their games are completely different, but Having a team that believes in you through injuries & losing and also being in the right generation means a lot...situation is everything. Hell there were people politicking to keep Monta Ellis over Steph!
I remember those days. You’re a OG frfr. Some people really wanted steph to be traded to keep monta 😂
Lol yea I wish they could've coexisted tho

BJ was a monster boi and all of a sudden disappeared.
Torn his achilles then it was over
@@DB-jn8li damn! And I know he bounced around a little bit
I'm halfway thru this and BJ has spoken for maybe 20 seconds max.
I remember being in 8th Grade and thinking Brandon Jennings was the second coming of Iverson that rookie year
Everybody did
He good but he not like dat. Corey Brewer had a 50 point game before too that don’t mean you can consistently do it at a All- Star level. He had plenty of chances to show he could be a consistent elite PG and it didn’t happen. Y’all take that high school stuff and try to make it the reality of the NBA if all someone can talk about when it comes to your career is a 50 point game and ballislife mixtapes how the hell could you be in the same sentence as AI.
@@jeremyjones2485 before his injury in Detroit, he was going crazy
Idk about all that.
I admire you for admitting your stupid
That’s crazy how you good see that from so far away Gil
“they didn’t let me take every shot of the game” - jennings
That man was a bucket ofc
And average 40% from the field 😂😂
Born and raised in the Mil. 3 pointers on fast breaks are bullshit. He shot tooo much
This shows it the choices the team makes behind the scene can factor in to how a players Career turns out. also when you playing with teammates who are trying to keep they Careers going only trying to get they numbers and not sacrificing for the betterment of the team.
The nuggets Gil drops on how he grew as a player are super insightful, keep being awesome big dawg
Jennings bought swag to the game. He was the reason all the ball players had Mohawk, fades and all the hair styles he was getting
Flatt 💯💪
People forget how good Bj was in Detroit before he got hurt. If he never gets hurt he's still in the league today
Facts. Tbh him and Drummond( who was hitting his prime) was about to be a problem in the east I remember a game I think it was vs the spurs. Drummond went off and bj hit the game winner. So unfortunate smh
@@2khandz978 I remember that game I think he got hurt a few games after that against the bucks in Milwaukee he tore his Achilles was never the same again
wanted to make a playoff run so bad for that team
😂😂😂 Tony parker part classic 😂😂😂
Folks gotta understand when BJ game into the game, he was the ladder to the evolutionary stage you see today of the Point Guard in the modern NBA. They have the greenlight to do anything now. Taking 20 Shot attempts before you individually had 8 - 10 assists as a PG had you benched, unless it was circumstantial. BJ was doing off the dribble deep 3 pointers at a time where coaches are yelling at you to take the screen and roll and dish it out etc.
I LOVE inteligent basketball talk
That's my dude😎!!!. He was shining in Detroit. Brandon jennings was lit
Giannis needed someone like him too ironically he’s much older now but giannis has been good for awhile if he was there when giannis was on the rise that would’ve been nice
Giannis does not need an inefficient scoring pg.
I could listen to Gil talk ball all day! Great stories. Great perspectives. Great insight. Even when I don’t agree with him. He’s someone I would love to have a "basketball personal relationship" with. True hoop junkie! He really should have an NBA job. Like a go-between or a player liaison to translate players to coaches, GM’s to coaches, rookies to vets, owners to GM’s, etc. He has so much personal experience and insight, and isn’t afraid of changes in the game from era to era. That’s where I pick up a lot from him. Really changes my perspective on a lot of things.
Damn I remember them Marburry and garnett days
I'm from NC but was a Wolves fan in that era.
Him and salmons was the shit man I rember watching them live at the Bradley center
Me too. 414 in the building.
Gilbert speaking facts. Both of my favorite players on the couch
This is the same way I feel about Tyreke Evans, the Kings didn’t like let him be him after his first year
Tyreke was eating, his rookie season.
Dumbass kings put him at SG. He was a natural PG. Kings screwed his development.

The league they only wanted Bron as that tall pg
One of the most underrated buckets of all time
super slept on. Brandon was one of my favorite players growing up, his jumpshot was smooth he could heat up quickly
He was so fun to watch
in his first 40 games as a rookie Brandon Jennings was taking nearly 17 shots a game while averaging 18 points a night.. His third season in the NBA he was 5th overall in field goal attempts behind only Kobe, KD, Russ and Bron ... The Bucks gave him a chance to be that scoring guard he wanted to be he just was terrible at doing it in the NBA on a consistent basis
my boy Brandon be smokin that bud 🤣🌿🌬️
#facts! Lips dark. LoL. Eyes red. LoL.
I live in Milwaukee and when he came to the city in 09 he had the city lit..... my mama was at the 55 point game she came home and was talking about "Number 3" lol
Redd was injured
Bogut was a defensive wall
Charlie bell wasn't getting you 25
Luke ridnour wasn't getting you 25
So Brandon was the only scoring option.
#3. 😂😂 Women are a trip. Love em.
I remember being in 4th grade wearing Brandon Jennings shoes, I lived in Milwaukee 😂
Never let anyone disrespect Brandon Jennings name and his game around you. One of my fave guards.
Man I always waited for Jennings time to blow up. It’s a shame all this bullshit he went through, we really missed out on such a talent
Jennings is career below 40% from the field. No way coaches gonna give him a green light
Imagine him in a Spurs organization at that time, he’ll be put in better positions to score
@@trewright58 Nah spurs basketball is not Jennings game
@@trewright58 I feel like anyone in the Spurs had to be relegated to a 4th or 5th option. 1st was always Tim Duncan. 2nd was Tony Parker. 3rd was Manu Ginobili. You have to take one of them out to replace with someone else. I'd argue that these three vets would have more of a reason to give Jennings a backseat than almost any other team in his era.
Yes u shoot below 40% when ur forced to be aggressive in a situation that doesn’t fit your play style. There’s no system allowing you play to your strengths or get to your spots. so u have to find other ways to score. That will make the best player inconsistent. Basketball is a lot more complex than a shooting percentage.
He’s talented but it’s not the Bucks fault bruh I remember playoff games where he was ice cold shooting every time
I remember playing with this team in 2k, he had Michael Redd and a couple other dudes but atleast fun to play with sometimes.
His high school mixtape unmatched 🏆
Brandon was taking a million bad shots every damn game. He had all the talent in the world but he didn't work hard enough.
I think it was the injuries more than lack of work ethic. Never heard of any reports of him not willing to put in the time and effort.
Injuries bro, not work ethic.
Scorers take “bad” shots
@@freddycalipari4242 he never shot the vet 40 percent from the field in his 9 year career. Nah he took “bad shots”
ItsZev thats called being inefficient. Like I said scores take what y’all call “bad” shots
Bruh Gil breaks down the game like no one else
Him and Shaq and Kg
I'm 25 and Brandon was my one of my favorite players growing up he should still be playing he was the truth he got me to buy a pair of under armor before anyone knew they made basketball shoes
John Salmons lol dude I forgot about him. I used to love playing with the bucks on nba live (back when live was still alive lol). Bogut, Brandon Jennings, Redd, Salmons. Stackhouse lol Fun times.
Jennings vs Iverson’s Battles were🔥🔥🔥🔥
Crazy that he is retired. He is only 31!
Injuries kind of did him in, took a toll on his career.. He would definitely get buckets in this era of the NBA!
Gilbert sure likes to talk. Likes it so much he talked for Brandon Jennings
I hate that they didn’t let him do him. Was so excited when the bucks drafted him and it flamed out so fast.
The game within the game so many players careers got ruined by them being drafted by the wrong team
LMFAOOOOO gil funny 😂😂😂
they didnt want brandon shooting 30 shots to get 20 points while shooting 30%! was only good for chucking 3s at a low % he was a pg version of jr smith
I know right. How u take 17 shots per game and still not avg 20ppg? Apparently that's mgmt's fault?
facts wtf is he on smh
Volume player just like Monta Ellis.
He wasn’t good for that system it forces you to take bad shots all the time.....
Stop it did you actually watch those games ??? Those bucks team were coached badly nd barely had talent to get shots off. Brandon Jennings would be kill in this space nd pace era
Bol look like Tory Lanez
I can't imagine he's referring to M Redd. He was hurt most of the time BJ was in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE MISS YOU BRANDON JENNINGS !!!
HE WAS A BEAST BUT THEY WOULDN’T LET HIM PLAY HIS GAME
You adjust and wait your turn to shine
4:42
John Salmons... Baller !!!
B. Jennings been blowin big gas!
Also, the NBA did not see you as one of next faces based on the continued clean cut image Stern was trying to establish.
Just think, if they let him flourish he’d probably be with Giannis right now and a polished player
no
Lmao with Gianna 1000 years later
Milwaukee loved Brandon Jennings. I used to complain he shot too much so for him to think Milwaukee held him back is astonishing.
It’s true this is new school guard scoring not pass first bucks definitely didn’t like dat used read bout dis relay all time
See what gill doesn't admit is tgat his taking a back seat to john wall led to him being tradeable n the end of his career..so u cant blame micheal redd at that time trynna maintain his status as the main guy cause history has proven u will be traded ur sacrifice wouldnt bring ur value up it actually erases it...the truth is brandon Jennings could score but his shooting percentages was extremly low n his injuries killed his career
@BelleDotz yeh but if u nice u nice ..Gilbert took a step back n the wizards already lost him a season befor to injury n suspension that’s y they got the John walk pick so drafting a player in the same position as ur current franchise player was a subliminal message that ur replaceable so why would u make that choice easier by producing less
One of my favorite player . Can’t belie he’s out of the league and black ball him .
He still need be in the league
I remember when jennings was in club and offered Nick Young a pill and young declined. Cant imagine a team not handing the keys to the franchise over to a guy like that 😂gtfoh
I almost disagreed until he broke it down #agentzero 💪🏿💯
Did not realize how good he was until he came to the New York Knicks with porzingis and that crew he was passionate and hard-working and didn't take crap from anyone
Gilbert Arenas needs to look into management office for a team
Well I hope Brandon still knows the fans love him. Bucks in 6 always
BJ and Monte Ellis were tuff as hell.
I liked Jennings as a Bucks fan, but he was a streaky shooter. When his aggressiveness worked, it was brilliant, but when it didn't, god it was painful and debilitating. Back in 2010, I think the Bucks could have made a run at it before Bogut broke his arm.
Thank you!! He shot barely over 40 percent for 2 out of the 9 seasons of his career, his go-to move was a step back jumper, and he could barely shake people in the half-court without a pick and roll. Was one of my favorite players to watch but he had flaws.
i bet the bucks wish they had him or monta last post season. they could've used a perimeter shot creator the last 2 playoff runs when the big deer was caught in headlights
Miss this theme song
He was the 1st nba rookie I followed and watched, his story of going to europe to play instead of ncaa made me interested in how he would perform. He did well but he's just not a strong shooter, only twice in his career did he shoot above 40%fg. I watched those bucks teams and he had the green light, he was just a bad shooter and took bad shots.
He also used his dominant left hand to lay the ball up when he was on the right side of the basket. Like wtf man, it gave an easier chance for the other team to block it.
Gianni's is great and all but I'm not interested in those bucks. The bucks that took on the hawks his rookie year and the heat were more interesting to me. It was the first time I followed a rookie from the start. Original fear the deer.
Needa interview darion williams from Brooklyn he was that guy too let not forget
Naw I would give that title to D Drose. Drose outplayed Jennings every time they went against each other...
Can u imagine Brandon Jennings and Giannis on the same team
you know he was pissed when they got monta ellis lmao. idk how anybody thought that was gonna work.
S/O to gill for understanding the time an situation made love of break down every time💪🏾🔥
Y’all need monta Ellis on the show next
Only under armor shoes I’ll wear are the bgs
Brandon put CZcams on the map
09 was a weird time
You think Kobe would ever say ..”they ain’t let me be me” leaders and legends don’t let nobody stop them from being them
facts
He did say that in his first couple years
@Rich Doee yeah but he ain’t let that shit affect him.. he black mamba they asses ... BJ sounds like he’s blaming them for his lack of success.. some people just built to be role players.. and he sounds like he’s crying about it
Exactly, and, real talk, if you're good enough they let you be you. BJ just wasn't good enough to be what he thought he was.
Dog was reliable.
If you got a scoring guard you need defenders with him
Brandon was that guy coming into the league
Lol OJ Mayo is next , gotta get him on
Man 2k bring back Brandon Jennings
Stop the cap 😂😂
It’s ALWAYS the other persons fault. That’s one thing I’ve learned from most people in life. They’ll never accept what they couldn’t do, just couldn’t possibly be them.
initially i thought what gil said made perfect sense - that the coaches and vets stopped his progression. but then i looked up bj's career stats and he was averaging 16 ppg his first 5 years with terrible fg%. i kind of get his point about the squad - good squad makes things easier. but the idea that coaches held him back? held back from what, avg 25 with 39% fg percentage?
i remember jennings being a beast...but not sure that makes sense. as to why gil feels this way....pretty sure agent 0 was dropping 30 w/ 40% fg so maybe thats why lolol
Remember seeing him drop 55 this man was/is a walking cheat code fr!!!
🐐🐐🐐🐐
Tony parker helped create agent zero telling him that lol
Was Brandon Jennings there?
Damn I’m getting old I remember when this guy was in the NBA . Now he’s retired
