- The climate control in my wifes Citroen DS3 D Style Plus failed. The fan was running constantly at full speed so I replaced the fan blower motor control resistor and it has solved this issue for us. I hope this video can help others.
3 years old this video, I would never have found, or know what to do. Worked like a charm. Cheers! ☺️
£20 it cost me online to put this issue right (cost of resistor)but the best part of all was this video because nobody but nobody has anything that relates..
Life saving event & more money for Christmas!!!
Cheers mate!!
Where did you get the resistor from ? Currently have my blowers stuck on full 🙄

Amazon Online..
Shouldn't be more than £25 & it works a treat..
It's quite a straight forward job. The panel has pop out studs holding it in place & Im sure there was 2 screws holding the other? The only difficulty (if you don't have ramps) is getting in & underneath the glove compartment..
Not a lot of work involved though so it shouldn't be costly getting someone to do it otherwise..
Good luck & remember to get the aircon a service afterwards. 👍
@@tonygraham1099 Did you get it fixed. I've just purchased the part of Ebay (Item: 392766410115) for £18 but not sure how long it will last. I'll be happy if I get two years out of it. Maybe it will break in two days. Keeping my fingers crossed.! The part said 3 years warranty but I'm not confident in getting a refund if it fails. For £18 I thought it was worth the risk!
@@defcon9898 yeah I ordered one from China on ebay and it sorted it, however went again after a month. Just ordered another one recently so will let you know. It's not too tricky a job to do yourself either!
You Sir are a star ! Same problem with DS3… ordered from ebay for £13.97 …. Fiddly to fit but your video was a massive help … problem solved … thank you mate 👍🏻
May I say a thank you to Mr DIY. I followed your instructions to replace the resistor, all fixed now having the same problem. I saved myself over £200 + sending it to a Citroen dealer to fix the resistor
Thanks for the video! Definitely saved me an expensive trip to the garage . My tip is don't do this just after driving as the pipes the unit is behind are very hot so let them cool down. I also struggled to get enough purchase on the unittotwist it but with the use of a pair of pliers it came out easy enough. I also found removing the cover below the glove box before removal made access easier
I followed a post on the C3 forum and discovered after taking the drivers side plastic panel out , on the climate controlled cars, the resistor is on the other side.
So I now need to put the o/s back together and follow your video.
Many thanks for taking the time to post this😊
This video was spot on, I just changed my son's on his DS3 2015 1.6 diesel. I'm a lefty and couldn't get the angle or purchase to turn the unit but chanced the right and out it came. Bought a replacement from Amazon, made in China, but isn't everything these strange days. Thanks again, saved me/us a good few bob I reckon.
Thanks mate. Just did mine. Great tutorial.
Thanks. Wouldn't have even attempted this without your video. Works great now.
Thank you for this video. I was quoted £120 + VAT just to diagnose my DS3 - my heating fan was stuck constantly on. I reckon it would have been approx £250 at the cheapest. I fixed it for the grand total of £17.53 because of your video!
Fantastic that’s exactly why I made and shared the video, hope the resistor gives you long service 👍
Many thanks. New hedgehog now installed. I'd have struggled to locate it without your video. As others have mentioned, I found that completely removing the trim below the glovebox as a first step not only helped with access for the resistor but also made it easier to remove and replace the side panel.
Really glad that my video has pointed so many people in the right direction and that better methods of access are evolving 👍
Thank you very much for this video. I purchased a new Heater Resister from Ebay (£18) and fitted. It has fixed the problem but without an official OEM part I'm not sure how long it will last! It is the most awkward part I have every had to replace. If anyone is reading, follow the four wires to where you find the part. You can't see it without a mirror and a torch. Once you have located it, you need to use your hand (to turn the part anti-clockwise to unlock). It's a bit fiddly but once unlocked just ease it out. It's a bit awkward but you will do it! The red wire was closest to the front of the car for when you need to reinsert. Squeeze the two small clips/inserts together (closer together) so that you can then pull out the connector. This was also a pain in the arse. I nearly broke mine thinking you need to push the clips the other way (away from each other). You then need to re-insert the connector on the new part, and wiggle a bit until it clicks back in place. You can turn clockwise to lock. Yes it is a pain, but I'm sure a Citroen garage will charge £150 to £200 to fix. Money saved is more beer money! Thanks to the original poster you have saved a lot of people a lot of money!!
I'm in the middle of doing this. I have it located but cannot get the cable out. When you say squeeze the two clips together do you mean the little clips that face each other or the two that face out? For the life of me I cant get it out and dont want to snap it!
Spoke with citron the part itself is 180 quid madness
Thank you for making this little video, I had the same issue and replacing this part fixed my problem. Cheers.
Thanks so much for this, after watching this I bought a unit for my daughters car and followed video to install and it worked
Cheers for that , I've just bought a ds3 and the fan was on full speed , so after watching your video, I was off to euro car parts €£41 and half an hour later all working fine , so thank you so much 😀
Thank you for doing this video. I have the same problem with my C4GP mk2. I think the resistor is in the same location. Will find out tomorrow, when I open it up!
Just like to say had same problem and could not find a video to help but your video was brilliant and did the job myself so thanks a million
Thanks for the post, I've got this problem on my daughters ds3 so will replace it on Monday. Very helpful.
Nice one for posting this. Not particularly great with cars but even I managed it with your help
Thank you for this video!!!
Worked for me, "a little tricky" was an understatement, but success! Thanks.
Great help..new one for 13 quid off eBay...pull the connector off first by pinching in the little plastic things at either edge..then you can twist it out easier.. cheers.
Thanks for the video Daryl- I've got the resistor out using your guidance- can somebody advise how you take off the electrical power connectors - struggling to see how you do that and working semi blind in that tight space is proving difficult - any advice or guidance appreciated- thanks for a great how to on something that is missing across the Internet
Tried again last Friday with a pair of pliers and hey ho , now replaced, many thanks guys for your comments and videos.
Thank you worked a treat bit fiddly but doable
Thank you for the tip brother 🙏
Well I decided to have a go at locating the blower motor and I managed to locate it next to the resistor that’s all I needed to do was remove the glove box and surrounding shroud and twist the motor blower housing and out as simple as that gave it all a good clean fully working :)
Many thanks top man !!!!
Great video helped me change the part no problem
Does anyone know if this is the same issue as if the blowers don’t work at all? I know people say their’s are stuck on full power but mine aren’t coming on at all. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
I have the same issue. Fans not blowing. Did a new resistor fix the issue
@@onarm6248 yeah man fixed the issue for me!
U r awesome mate thx alot for help
Great video! I have the same problem, i think i found the piece but i can t get it out yet. It s pretty much hidden and not much working space. My dealer charges 162 euro!
Good for posting this video, integration is key
Cheers mate appreciate it!
Thanks 👍👍
Thanks a lot for doing this. I have located and twisted out the resistor but can't work out how to detach the electrical part. It's not shown in the video. Any help appreciated
Thank you so much!
🇳🇱
my car ( DS3 2015 ) making badly noise as well so going to try it and hope works :):):):)
Changed the resistor for a new one no air still blowing at all is this likely to be the heater blower motor ? If so how tricky is it to remove does the dashboard need taking apart any help would be extremely grateful
Thank you 👍
Thanks so much Good the video
Thanks for the video. I've replaced the resistor and everything is working now but at a much higher speed than before. Even on the lowest setting it blasts out. If I put it on full I'll get blown out the window! Any ideas?
I have an issue with my DS3 2010 petrol, wondering if it could be the same thing?
Mine's not blowing full all the time, but its a lot weaker than it should be. For example, when it's set to two fans, it feels like one and so on...
Could it be the same component causing the problem?
Hi Mr Diy. Great video, whats is the 'knack' to get the resistor to twist out?! I have spent an hour now pushing, pulling and turning and no movement. many thanks pete
Did you sort it as I did it myself and can try assist
@@paulagill1577I didn't sort mine can't seem to twist it out...
Cant work out how to remove the electrical part from the old resistor any help be appreciated please 🙏
My fans dint work then I changed the ressister and now they work but are on full all the time. Any advise?
I have 2013 ds3 here. Blowers not working atall though. All fuses are good but i cannot find the resistor anywere. Theres absolutely no gap for a finger to get through let alone my hand so im stuck.
is the same for citroen c3 II (second series)?
Was the fan blowing full blast constantly. Even if you tried turning it down or off before hand?
Hey I have that problem right now. Did you manage to fix it
Hi I have the same problem with my car at the moment, where could I purchase the part from? I got quoted £150 by Citroen!
Did you get it fixed. I've just purchased the part of Ebay (Item: 392766410115) for £18 but not sure how long it will last. I'll be happy if I get two years out of it. Maybe it will break in two days. Keeping my fingers crossed.!

How much was the resistor please ?
Just tried to replace ours on citreon ds3 14 plate and cannot remove old one, in an awkward place and can't get any leavage, I can only try to remove with left hand, any help please....
Replaced mine but still having same problem. Worked for about 5 mins then started blowing out again. Any recommendations please ?
Have the same problem
@aaronhudnott9719 mines sorted now ended up taking to a garage to fix.. Had other issues since replaced windscreen washer pump
My blowers weren’t working so Changed this out and now the blowers are stuck on max?? Pretty sure I’ve done everything right?
Did you ever resolve this?
As per previous post Mr DIY - how much was the resistor ?
Hi Martin, as per my previous answer "I got a genuine part from Havant Motor Factors and it cost about £60, I did find much cheaper ones on eBay but was concerned about the quality of those parts so went for the genuine part"
@@mrdiy1238 Thankyou, sorry i never realized you had replied to previous post - I have this same issue with our 1.6 HDI 115 DS3 but unfortunately i am unable to locate where our fan resistor is situated, i have done what you have in the video - and on the drivers side also by removing the lower console panel, even had the glove box out and the front part of the console where the stereo sits and cannot see the damn thing anywhere.
Martin N Sorry to hear of your struggle to find your resistor. Mine was really difficult to see, I got my phone up in there and took some pics which gave me a clue where to put my hand. I did it by feel more than sight. I understand its in a different location on older DS3’s though.
@@MR-DIY what yr is your DS3 ? Ours is a 2013 model
Martin N ours is a 2013 model too.
cant find it ?
What screw is that ?
Would it be the same part for 2015 don’t want to order the wrong part 🤦♀️
Many thanks! A great help but couldn’t your daughter have held the phone/camera in gratitude? 🤔😂
Oops, just watched again and should have said wife rather than daughter.
Crucial part where u locate resistor isn't shown.i can't find mine ??
Have you found the resistor message me if struggling I found it and replaced it myself
If your looking for the part, I got this one from Amazon. Search for: D2P 64113422662, 3422662 Heater Resistor
You dont even film the important bit of where it bloody is!!!
The 1 screw panel under the glove box comes out & then it's the 2 screw hardboard panel to the left. You'll see the fitment ..?
I bet you've done the job alreadu? Lol
Do not try this when the car is hot
I got a genuine part from Havant Motor Factors and it cost about £60, I did find much cheaper ones on eBay but was concerned about the quality of those parts so went for the genuine part.
I did try and get a picture of the resistor in situ but its so difficult to get to I was unable to get a clear picture. I believe I have given clear guidance on how to get to it though. After all I was just trying to share the info because I couldn’t find any guidance myself elsewhere 😉
