- Paul McCartney - Tug of War
Lyrics:
IT'S A TUG OF WAR,
WHAT WITH ONE THING AND ANOTHER,
IT'S A TUG OF WAR.
WE EXPECTED MORE
BUT WITH ONE THING AND ANOTHER,
WE WERE TRYIN' TO OUTDO EACH OTHER
IN A TUG OF WAR.
IN ANOTHER WORLD,
IN ANOTHER WORLD WE COULD
STAND ON TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN WITH OUR FLAG UNFURLED.
IN A TIME TO COME,
IN A TIME TO COME WE WILL BE DANCING TO THE BEAT
PLAYED ON A DIFF'RENT DRUM.
IT'S A TUG OF WAR,
THOUGH I KNOW I MUSTN'T GRUMBLE,
IT S A TUG OF WAR.
BUT I CAN'T LET GO,
IF I DO, YOU'LL TAKE A TUMBLE
AND THE WHOLE THING IS GOING TO CRUMBLE,
IT'S A TUG OF WAR.
(Pushing, pushing,
Pulling, pulling,
Pushing and pulling)
IN YEARS TO COME, THEY MAY DISCOVER
WHAT THE AIR WE BREATHE AND THE LIFE WE LEAD ARE ALL ABOUT.
BUT IT WON'T BE SOON ENOUGH, (soon enough)
SOON ENOUGH FOR ME.
NO, IT WON'T BE SOON ENOUGH, (it won't be soon enough for me)
SOON ENOUGH FOR ME.
IN ANOTHER WORLD
WE COULD STAND ON TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN WITH OUR FLAG UNFURLED.
IN A TIME TO COME,
WE WILL BE DANCING TO THE BEAT PLAYED ON A DIFF'RENT DRUM,
WE WILL BE DANCING TO THE BEAT PLAYED ON A DIFF'RENT DRUM,
WE WILL BE DANCING TO THE BEAT PLAYED ON A DIFF'RENT DRUM.
IT'S A TUG OF WAR, (a tug of war, a tug of war)
WHAT WITH ONE THING AND ANOTHER,
IT'S A TUG OF WAR.
WE EXPECTED MORE
BUT WITH ONE THING AND ANOTHER,
WE WERE TRYIN' TO OUTSCORE EACH OTHER
IN A TUG OF WAR
(Pushing, pushing,
Pulling, pulling,
Pushing and pulling) - Hudba
One of Paul's most underrated songs.
yea definitely
?
Agree with you
cringe
What??
One of Paul’s most beautiful songs IMO.
In the last few seconds of the video, Paul and Linda are next to each other. Then Linda fades out and disappears. Although Paul also eventually fades out and disappears also, in those seconds there when Linda disappears, it just makes me think of her death, and Paul left alone. Touching moment of sadness there.
I agree. I noticed that bit of timing and my heart broke.
Rest in Peace both John Lennon and Linda McCartney.
Makes me cry how she lays her arm on his shoulder...She was the best for him. They were connected souls...Connected to each other with love and real understanding.. R.i.P.
No matter how many times I see this, when Linda fades away at the end I almost get the chills
I got the chills reading your comment; and I agree when Linda fades away, it is especially poignant.
Magnificent song in so many ways. Always makes me cry. Paul's brilliance and what must be references to John. I love it so much.
the orchestra at the end is incredible, masterpiece
One of Paul’s greatest songs. A classic.
As a huge Macca fan i must say this is in my top 3 songs by him.....
... One of them being Yesterday, so go ahead and name the remaining one
Agreed
Long Haired Lady
@@jlmagoya same! "Take it away" is my remaining one
It's the best song I've heard by him from the 1980s
What a voice he had back then!!
Tug the war is a great album with amazing hits “Take it away” and “Ebony and ivory”
This video's ending is very telling. Linda vanished first--in real life, she died early. It may be a hard fact to accept, but Paul too will die one day, and he'll vanish like Linda. But the sound of the music stayed, whcih means his songs, his legacy, will remain; he's the greatest of all time.
Well said my friend..long live Paul!
He is.
Music can conquer the world.
One of my favourite songs.
This song is stunning. It’s not even in my top ten Macca songs and it’s still a bona fide masterpiece
This ENTIRE album is amazing!! Every damn song is a gem 💎 🎵
Thank you Paul 🎁
just i want to say ........PAUL IS THE BEST
Sounds like a disguised ode to John Lennon when you think about the lyrics. "We were trying to outdo each other...." and so on. Most brilliant song since "Yesterday."
You got it!
hola de que a;nio e esta cancion
Absolutely.....i think you are spot on....
Yes, it was:

@Joy Stinson McCartney has always been a musical force of nature--not only hugely talented (the most talented in the group) but incredibly prolific. The guy's catalog is mind-boggling.
Beauty of a masterpiece timeless classic.
The guitar he's using was the one he sang Yesterday with on the Ed Sullivan Show. He toured with Wings Over America with it. I saw him in 2002 and he used it in concert.
George Martin described Paul and John's relationship as a tug of war.
Interesting fact
It's interesting to see Paul continued to work with George Martin after the breakup of the Beatles whereas John/George/Ringo never did.
Paul was always the favourite of George Martin's because he was the creative one who would listen to anything to see if it improved a song and they would collaborate. John shut down and called Martin's production 'all that shit'. George became more of a miserable bastard fixated on what the main two were earning [you wrote three good songs George] and Ringo was just 'I'll play with anyone as long as they ask because I love them all:)
@@NigelT57 Thanks for your answer and interesting information.
@@NigelT57 this is an infuriatingly warped view of history and probably based on some dumb shit john said in 'Lennon Remembers' which is just a long list of pre-coached, heroin-fueled lies that even he denounced. george martin was definitely paul mccartney's mentor (since he recognized quickly paul's unique talent) and they did several collaborations together even before the band's breakup, but paul is infamously resistant to criticism and in fact apparently behaved quite petulantly with martin on this album & the other two he produced for him in the 80's (note that paul didn't work w/ martin outside 'Live and Let Die' in the 70s either, or after this lol), while john was always going to martin first for advice on how to achieve the sound he wanted, since he couldn't put it together in his head the way paul could. in one of his later-life interviews, john described george martin as an invaluable "translator" for the band. both john and paul could be arrogant, testy bastards, and were receptive and resistant to martin's input in equal terms (often in solidarity w/ each other), but they both valued him even if they went to him for different reasons. martin was p fed up with "the boys" in the band's last two years, setting down heavy conditions for them to follow when recording Abbey Road, so it's likely he had his own resistances to working with them again, although he did notably produce ringo's first solo album. george was the only one who seemed to have a real chip on his shoulder about martin, but that's george for you. martin even admitted later in life that he'd neglected george's burgeoning songwriting attempts. whether or not you think george was a hack who deserved to be neglected is honestly a matter of opinion, but it is literally true that it happened.
@@NigelT57 That is true: Paul was always the favourite of George Martin's - because he was among the four who was willing to study music composing and arranging from George Martin even after all of his successful years. But on the other hand we must admit that John had a kind of unique spirit what the other three members of the Beatles didn't. George Harrison's music world a bit strange and weird - but he was a really gifted songwriter, too.
@@NigelT57 , spot on.... lots covered concisely.
All-time classic. If it was released as the first single it could have been a worldwide number one smash!
Agreed.
В 1982 году был , и по сей день остаюсь очарованным, этой песней СЭРА ПОЛА МАККАРТНИ !
It was 1984 ..remembering my time period of work in saudi arabia..feeling i was in a tug of war..i really can't forget the song..thank you sir Paul.
You are truly a great singer of so many views in life with different melodies to listen to...thank you again sir Paul.
Wow we need to hear this now. How wise. Linda's voice and dedication beautiful.
One of McCartney's best songs and album.
Yet it is the song with his deepest feelings Though he tries to muffle his emotion, it is there. It is a message for so many of us to consider people while we have them still around, whatever the situations and circumstances. One day it may be too late.
Actually this is one of the most beautiful songs Paul McCartney ever wrote, for me maybe even his most beautiful. I love it soooo much....
Uma das mais belas composições do Paul... Linda!!!
Paul looks a lot more like a Beatle than he did in the 70s, great look!
I don't know for certain, but this video might have been around the same time he did the movie Give My Regards to Broad Street as his look is very similar. czcams.com/video/-KtFVlso7C0/video.html
@@monica11760 I think you are right, the filming of that definitely took place around that time.
@@oliver9549 year after
masterpiece
The video is outsanding
The excellent title song of Paul's excellent album from 1982.
Супер!какой светлый голос,какая мелодия!👍👏
Linda was gorgeous in this video. Why oh why did people pick on her? And she was a dedicated mom.
MrT Oldies
After 3 years you get a reply - lol.
Linda was and still is, Pauls greatest love in his life...and that is all that matters. The nay-sayers can go fuck themselves.
Love the song.
I guess it was funny to hear her sing she was so bad. But she was fantastic in all other respects and she never claimed to be a good singer, I think Paul pushed her into it.
Had something to do with wives joining the band !
some people are just cunts thats why
People didn’t get why she was there? It’s not normal you see musicians have there wives in videos, they normally don’t want the limelight
Najkrajšia skladba, krásna pieseň, melódia, hudba proste všetko !
Perfect song for the time we are going through right now.
His song 'Here Today's was about his relationship with John.
Another great song love it
Happy 80 Paul !!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Paul said He wrote this song as a good bye to John.
I hear that like I'm sure we all did. Yet Paul has George Martin and NOT John Lennon in the video.
One must listen to what the man said, that it's about his relationship with John. But it's interesting that George Martin plays a role in the video. A man who Paul certainly had many tugs of war with.
What a beautiful song.
Very true what u say about george martin but lets not forget he produced this alburm n also features in the filmclip of "take it away" from the same alburm🤔🤔
It was Here Today.
@@MrJoeybabe25 - George Martin is in the video because he produced this album for Paul. It was the first time Paul had brought Martin back to produce an album for him since his Beatles days.
@@erasmusmiranda587 While Here Today is indeed about Lennon, a lot of the lyrics to Tug of War also are heavily influenced by John and Paul's relationship, especially the fact that two constantly were trying to "outdo each other." The two constantly would butt heads over things and their friendship was a proverbal tug-of-war. While not completely about John, there are a lot of elements that are indeed about the relationship that he and Paul had. Paul has admitted as such.
Great song from a fantastic album!
A beautiful song!!
VERY GOOD PAUL. MUITO BOM PAUL. NICE SONG. LINDA CANÇÃO
That orchestration is grandiose. Interesting that at the end, Linda leaves the picture first. Then Paul. Sad day that’ll be.
3:52 so sad and yet beautiful at the same time
Very prescient 😥
Paul, thank you so much for it!!
I always love the Tug Of War album so much. Seattle♥️
It's a toss-up between Tug of War, Ram, and Band on the Run as my favorite solo McCartney album. Easily one of his best albums for sure.
@@squirrelguy2195 yeh I can see that. It is a tossed up indeed. Ram good too.
Paul and John are truly Brothers from another Mother. They may have fought with each other and got upset with each other. Their break up in 1970 was a painful divorce but at the end of the day they realized they would always be family .
Musica linda, orquestra maravilhosa. Obra digna de um gênio da grandeza de Paul.
Мурашки по коже. Очень сильная вещь.
Dear Sir Paul an old song with a good melody

Great song, Paul! Actually, it is amazing!
Today I was learning of the revolution on my school ,because of this big test we have to do or els we won’t be Abel to graduate something like that. And I just start whispering ‘’ it’s a tug of warrr in another world we can... every one was like who’s simpering that. And I just couldn’t wait to go home so I would listen to this wonderful song.

The very first time I listen to this master piece!

Paul will love John till his last breath and beyond and vice versa. In another world, they could have stood on top of the mountain with their flag unfurled.
Paul at his melodic best.
