Awwww, so sweet! I trapped and neutered a skinny striped gray stray tom that had been hanging around our house like Boysie, spraying his "perfume" and garnering the wrath of our cats through the screen. I'd been feeding him for a while and he was starting to trust me, but I figured the trauma of the mandatory vet visit would scare him away. Happily I couldn't have been more wrong! We had to keep him inside for the night after surgery, so gave him his own space in the laundry room. When morning came I thought he'd want to fly out the door or fight with the other cats he'd smelled under the door, but he just wanted food, and actually let me pet him. The cats all greeted each other with nary a hiss, and he is now everyone's best friend and the peace ambassador of our motley crew, full of love and gratitude.
What a heartwarming story! It's incredible how a little kindness and understanding can completely transform a cat's life. Your compassion and care have made such a difference for him and your furry family. Thanks for sharing this beautiful tale! 😺💖🏡

My family had a similar thing happen. The cat was HUGE and fluffy and started out just approaching us in the garage. But when we finally earned his trust, he just became the most affectionate and needy cat. Unfortunately, he passed on shortly after. But I’m happy we were able to at least make him feel loved before he did.
Bless you ❤️! I am so sorry to hear that he sadly passed away though ❤️. The first stray who adopted us very sadly passed away 3 months later, after we saw her and started to look after her, on the 1st January 2020 💔💔.

Not all cats can adapt to living inside permanently however, especially those who are part feral and those with many other cats in the small houses the UK has. One of our cats was only truly happy when she was outside. She hated with a passion all her cat family members and would get so stressed if kept in. Cats are more independent than dogs are. We don't have coyotes in the UK, but we do have foxes, birds of prey, dogs and sadly, many cars in the UK, however, most foxes and birds of prey tend to actually be more scared and at risk from cats than the other way around. The only true dangers tend to be from other cats, dogs and the most being cars. We allow our cats outside to wander freely in the daytime but always try to keep them all in at night as night time and the early morning is the most dangerous time for birds and mice getting caught and for cats from speeding cars.

I have 3 strays I brought inside. We built them a cattery so they could still go outside without having to worry about them.

I love sweet Boysie and you are amazing for taking him in! I had a stray" Lil Gurl" she was in our car until she passed away peacefully She was feral but let us live her towards the end she kept any and all other cats out of our yard because it was hers! I miss her too this day but it was wonderful to know that she was fed watered and loved in her last years ❤

Apparently, strays ask around the other neighbourhood cats where to get some food & shelter.

All of my cats have been strays, one of which was an actual feral that I live trapped.
I keep food out all winter in case a stray shows up.
And I've found homes for many of them besides the ones that now live with me.
I used to joke that there was a newsletter that went out between cats that told them that my home was a good place to get a meal, a treat, and some love if they wanted it. 😋
I think that that is very true indeed! My family and I thought that about our stray cats. 2 appeared, then another, then many others!!

It always takes a bit of time for outdoor cats to get used to being indoors.
Give them about a couple days to adjust and let them come in on their own.

I've adopted loads of strays, in my lifetime. My late cat smudge in picture was a stray, had him in 2015, unfortunately he had to be euthanized as he had the FIV VIRUS. My latest adoptee is a old ginger tom called Fudge. Thanks for giving this gorgeous cat a lovely home. ❤

The feeling you get when you gain the trust of a stray animal or any animal is beautiful. If we can do this with another species you’d think it would be easy to do it with our fellow humans but there’s one thing that gets in the way, humans are greedy and liars in a lot of cases whereas with animals you get what you get without the deception. If they don’t like you they don’t pretend they do and if they like you it’s because they just do.
