    • @deancooperphotography2896
      @deancooperphotography2896  Před 2 lety

      Hi Marie, if you rescale the vertical image, the height will be too much and Insta will crop the top and bottom to bring it down to 1350 pixels. Any vertical image uploaded to Insta will end up 1080 pixels wide x 1350 pixels high, when you rescale your vertical to 1080 pixels wide the height is 1620. Hence Insta will crop the height to 1350. Very frustrating as 99% of cameras are not this native format.

    • @deancooperphotography2896
      @deancooperphotography2896  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi William, the white bars on each side become part of the image and is shown when you post, its purpose is to create a vertical that is 1080 x 1350 pixels, that way IG won't crop your image. If you make the image itself wider to start with then your height will be more than 1350 pixels and IG will crop parts of it off. The reason for this procedure is to be able to post a vertical without IG cropping any part of it. Hope that makes sense. Cheers

    Another question I have for you. What would the image size be for a pano that can fit on Instagram?

    • @deancooperphotography2896
      @deancooperphotography2896  Před 3 lety

      Hi Gary, A pano is treated the same as a Landscape or Horizontal image, you need to size it to 1080 pixels wide, you can put it in larger but IG will chop it down to this width. An advanced way of posting a pano is to cut it in two and upload two images, these are the ones that you scroll across the pano.

      if you use millimeters then ppi is critical, at the end of the day IG will resize it 1080 pixels wide, if you can I would stay with pixels not mm , less confusing. Most of your images are square or close to square, so IG won't crop anything off the top or bottom, this only happens with verticals, as they have to fit withen 1080x1350 pixels dimension.

    how do you get the full image without the white border on either side?

    • @deancooperphotography2896
      @deancooperphotography2896  Před rokem

      Hi if you image is not the Insta format you will have to have borders as Insta will size a vertical 1080 wide x 1350 high. Every vertical image is sized by Insta like this. So the only way NOT to have borders is for your image to be sized at 1080 pix wide by 1350 pix high (or that ratio) If you don't size it to this ratio then Insta will crop into the photo and size it to this ratio.
      Hope this makes sense.

  • @agegirl
    @agegirl Před 3 lety

    Hey, so I am using Snapchat so the photos from that platform never fit on Instagram without cropping which really sucks😫 cuz I loose out on the photo. The only other option is the white borders which I want to avoid. I have researched how to crop it without having the white borders and, unfortunately I don’t think there’s any way around it.😫. And, it’s tough to use the expand feature on snapseed with a close up selfie. And, that’s what I’m working with is selfie’s. It ends up looking distorted. There’s an app called peachy and if u go to the “tall” feature u can change the direction and stretch the photo a bit. And, I found that helps. What I’m wondering is though....with the ratio “1080x1360.” That is what I have researched and it’s suggested to get the maximum amount of the photo on to ig, but, what is the difference between that and 4x5? (Btw I’m not on desktop-I’m on iOS)

    • @deancooperphotography2896
      @deancooperphotography2896  Před 3 lety

      H Adriana, IG format for a vertical is 1080x1350 pixels, this is a ratio of 4-5, i.e if you downsized it to 4 pixels wide it would be 5 pixels high. MOST cameras don't use this , they are 2-3 format, hence a vertical would be 1080x1620 pixels. If you posted an image this size then IG will crop it down to 1080x1350, hence its crops off the top and bottom.
      Any App that says it can resize an image without cropping it just stretching or squashing it, not good for selfies as you have mentioned. You should be OK with square or horizontal shots as these won't be effected. When you are taking a vertical selfie, compose it knowing that a bit off the top and bottom will be cropped when you upload to IG. Other than that you really need a photo editor like Photoshop to run the procedure in this video, hope that helps. Dean

      @@deancooperphotography2896 thanks Dean for the clarification. Appreciate it!!👍🏻 so basically there’s no difference between the 1080 x1350 and the 4x5. I use this app called image Resize which allows u to enter ur own dimensions. Would it be better to just crop with the iPhone considering uploading to diff apps decreases your resolution? Or it doesn’t make a difference. What size is good for a Facebook profile? (to get the most possible amount of the pic incorporated). Also, there’s an option to link ur fb and ig so when u upload to ig it also uploads to fb at the same time but, doesn’t fb allow u to upload a bigger pic ? So wouldn’t it be better to upload separately? Sorry for all the questions 🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @deancooperphotography2896
      @deancooperphotography2896  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Adriana
      1080x1350 is the pixel dimension, 4x5 is the format ratio, i.e 1080x1350 is a 4 to 5 ratio.
      Download an app called Snapseed, it is brilliant and allows you to set your crop to 4x5, this will then be the perfect ratio for IG, use it for all your verticals.
      As far as FB goes, I upload to both at the same time, you can upload a larger image, but do you really need to, mine look great on a desktop.
