    LYRICS
    Sight
    Pale riders into the night
    Galloping harder and faster
    Through your dreaming wake
    Walk through the fire innate
    Frost bitten soul below zero
    Excitation
    Are you remembering the sound
    Recall the shaking of the ground
    Calling, calling
    All as one
    Lords of summer bring the sun
    Coming, coming
    Winter's yearn
    Lords of summer shall return
    Eternal thawing has begun
    Come trade your darkness for the sun
    Melting the chill of winter's turn
    For soon the lords of summer shall return
    Lords of summer shall return
    Straight
    Life passes through penetrate
    It's been a long lonely winter
    Illumination
    Bright
    Fading the volume and light
    Reanimated by fire
    Transformation
    Become the nexus of the sound
    Become the shaking of the ground
    Calling, calling
    All as one
    Lords of summer bring the sun
    Coming, coming
    Winter's yearn
    Lords of summer have returned
    Eternal thawing has begun
    Come trade your darkness for the sun
    Melting the chill of winter's turn
    Now that the lords of summer have returned
    Lords of summer have returned
    Calling, calling
    All as one
    Lords of summer bring the sun
    Coming, coming
    Winter's yearn
    Lords of summer have returned, have returned
    Eternal thawing has begun
    Come trade your darkness for the sun
    Melting the chill of winter's turn
    Now that the lords of summer have returned
    Lords of summer have returned

      Chris Bellis People don't realise a fair chunk of the songs on St Anger are very good, some excellent riffs and some crazily good drumming from Lars (just his drum kit sounds a bit cack). Problem is the songs are just too long and when you hear edited, shortened versions they sound awesome.

      No, they wouldn't. I'll never forget me and my friends saying that we loved 'Load', until a week later when I confessed that I was lying and really didn't like it. From there, everyone else fessed up that they were disappointed too. And Load was better than this.

      Unfortunately, nostalgia blinds metal fans. They're all too stuck living in the past, or "glory days", unable to see what is present and what is offered before them. It's sad, really. Give this song twenty years before it can be accepted, that's when nostalgia will kick in.

      I agree. Ridding of Bob rock has certainly helped their music. Don't forget even though they lost their main writers (Dave and cliff r.i.p) Bob changed the band and moved them away from their sound

    • @johnstevenson4930
      @johnstevenson4930 Před 10 lety +5

      To be totally honest I don't hate Bob Rock..he did his job with "Metallica" and I don't dislike "Load" and "ReLoad" I mean those records each had their solid cuts and showed that Metallica could do different shades even though they had a polished mainstream rock feel to them, I liked them..it took me a few listens and a viewing of the "Some Kind Of Monster" to fully understand "St. Anger" and with that being said, I can in a way say that Rock tried to take Metallica back to their roots with St. Anger...now that album sounds nothing like their old stuff but technically it's raw, it's heavy, it's faster and crazier than anything that appears on Load and ReLoad and it captures emotion. It just suffers from Lars' snare and the band trying to fit in with the music style of the time. I believe Rock would have done an album like Death Magnetic if given the chance.

    Everyone is giving Metallica such shit for this song. They're not in their early 20's anymore and have new ideas coming out of their asses. They've been around for 20-30 years and they have put out some great albums. Cut them some slack. I know its not Master of Puppets but its still a great song. This song is a lot better than the stupid poppy shit that's out today. Justin Bieber is making felines and breaking the law and teenager girls are all like "I still love him. Hopefully he doesn't get into a lot of trouble." Then you have Metallica. James Hetfield, Kirk Hammet, Lars Ulrich, and Robert Trujilo. They're married, raising families, making great music, and rockin' out, yet, you're still giving them shit. It should be the total other way around. When people hear Metallica, they excpect to hear something their old sound. Well sorry everyone, this isn't 20 years ago. Unless you can turn back time to where they were in their early 20's, James Hetfield could still sing like he used to then enjoy this. If this song were to be on Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning, you wouldn't be giving them shit. You would be like "Holy fuck! This is amazing!" I love this song and I already know I'm going to love their new album.

      I've been giving them slack for three or four albums now - it's not getting any better.
      As for not being 20 years old anymore? If that's affecting the "boys", maybe they should hang their instruments and quit because the same thing isn't affecting bands like Testament, Helloween or Iron Maiden (now that Bruce's been back for a while). They're as old or older (and hell, Chuck nearly died of cancer a while back) and still sound just as good as 20 years ago (when I was in my 20s)...

    Cracks me up, all these people ripping on Metallica. They've said since way the hell back in the beginning "we do what we want to do. If you don't like it...there's the door." So, I'd like to cordially invite the haters/trolls to get the fuck out, and let the actual fans enjoy this song.
    Regardless of what you think about them, every single album they've ever released (including the "hated ones") have gone platinum. They are the only band in history to have 6 consecutive albums debut at #1. They are the first band in history to play on every continent. The guys in this band are all in their late 40's, early 50's, and they're still putting out shit like this! Most metal musicians are bigger pussies in their 20's than James is at 51. Also, please stop comparing them to bands comprised of people who were shitting in diapers when Kill 'em All came out...those bands most likely owe their very fucking existence to Metallica.

    The only reasons reasons people would dislike this is because they are either far to critical and expect more then perfection (which is impossible because its a demo song), or, they are stuck in the Kill em all to black album era, and don't like the new albums simply because they were not made in the 80's and 90's. They say that DM was bad, but it wasn't. Its a fantastic album, the only reason they don't like it is because it was made after Load, they make themselves believe it to be bad.
    EDIT : I doubt many people are going to read this old comment but I'm just telling you I sort of disagree with this comment. I don't believe everyone who dislikes this song is close minded, if you don't like this songs that's okay. While I still think it's a good song, I understand why you might not like it, I'm happy if we all just respect each others music preferences, so take my old comment with a grain of salt.

      The only issue I have with DM is the overload of volume. It kills the overall sound. Many people prefer the Guitar Hero versions of the DM songs featured in GHM. Lars shouldn't have given creative control to the mixing engineers like he said happened towards the end. But it wouldn't be the first time he made a call that damaged the quality of an otherwise fantastic album (... And Justice for All). I'm honestly a little nervous about how this new album will be mixed because the band said Rick Ruben is producing again and he's infamous for starting the "Loudness Wars" and boosting the shit out of track volume. Hopefully they don't fuck up like they did with DM's mastering.

      Si pero igual las criticas tienen que servir para mejorar...Metallica es una banda que marco mi vida y tiene discos grandiosos por eso la gente que los conoce es exigente con ellos por que sabe y me incluyo que Metallica puede ser aun mejor, hay que reconocer que el sonido actual es muy por debajo a lo que era en sus mejores tiempos por eso quizas la culpa no es de la propia banda, sino de los que estan detras de ella; me refiero a productores, asesores de sonido, etc... Metallica puede y tiene talento de sobra para hacer lo que quieran pero en calidad de estudio están al debe, suenan muy garage desde el Death Magnetic en adelante.

      Yo pienso de que esta cancion no es mala. Tiene potencial para ser realmente todo un clasico y epico. El problema que tiene; es que aun la banda no se a dado cuenta de que el sonido y las notas estan mal. Le falta que le pongan a mas Punch Attacks tanto en las guitarras y especialmente en Lars. James; por lo visto volvio a vocalizarla. Esta vez le salio peor. Y tambien, esta melodia tiene a sus bajas. Siento de que a esta cancion la deberian de editar. Y quitarles a todas esas partes bajas o lentas, solamente la desgracian. Y dejarla con los tempos tanto rapidos como heavies.
      O si no es asi. Entonces, que mejor se busquen a un verdadero ingeniero que tenga experiencia real para grabar METAL.
      Roy. Z. Es muy bueno. Le a grabado a los grandes, Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickenson ( su proyecto solista), Judas Priest, Halford ( su proyecto solista ), Sepultura, y entre otros mas.
      Aunque el sonido que el hace es un algo comprimido. Pero en cuanto al sonido de Metal. Esta muy bien lo que hace.

    I honestly do think this song is really fucking good, but they honestly need something done in the final mix to make it a little more in your face. I think James needs to layer a couple more guitars to get that even heavier sound. It's a little flat here. Kirk's solos could use some reverb and delay to bring it out, just a couple things. • @Derpadeedooda
      @Derpadeedooda Před 10 lety +10

      ***** No I think their guitars should sound heavy, ya know, like their classic material....Black album, And Justice etc. Metallica is not Sabbath

    • @liamkirk2458
      @liamkirk2458 Před 10 lety +8

      They say they use less gain because you get more dynamics out of the guitar, which I agree with and do myself. Who wants nasty dry guitars anyway...

    • @rockrenegade
      @rockrenegade Před 10 lety +3

      Agreed. Very weak and seriously lacking thump. They could have at least turned the bass up.

    • @Derpadeedooda
      @Derpadeedooda Před 10 lety +8

      I meant the sound of the black album, not the material. The black album is one of the best sounding metal albums from a production stand point. The guitars sounded heavy as fuck and the drums were thick as fuck

    • @Derpadeedooda
      @Derpadeedooda Před 10 lety +6

      If youre turning down the gain on your guitars to get "more dynamics and clarity" youre completely missing the point of aggressive music.

They are older now than in the 80's and 90's and they can't maintain the energy. I'd like to see you all with their ages laying down on the sofa the whole year. METALLICA!

    The problem is that they invented this kinda music, but they have been surpassed musically by all the young bands. Its the natural order. New bands take the proto-stuff and improve on it. Just like Metallica Took Diamond Head and Improved on it. That makes the original guys sound kinda lame. I'm sure Trivium can play "Master" much better than Metallica. Its just like how when Slayer came out they were as fast as u could get, but then Sepultura et al came out and Slayer sounded slower. It's the Natural order. Doesn't mean Metallica sucks, u just gotta judge them for who they are and what they do now. Sounded like a decent song. They peaked at Ride and Master in my opinion, and they will never get there again. Who will? They won. They took a new kinda music and made it huge. They have the right to do whatever they want. Don't understand the hate. Imagine what heavy music would be like right now if there had been no Metallica. Scary. It would be Hair Metal or Nickleback or some shit...

      Bullshit. Not to take anything away from Metallica, but you already had bands like Maiden, Priest, Motörhead and lots of other NWOBHM bands, as well as fast hardcore punk like Discharge and darker metal bands like Venom and Merciful Fate coming out at that time. The thrash metal wave of the 80's would have existed without Metallica because bands would have been started all over the world anyway, in order to take it a step further and be faster and heavier than the ones I mentioned. No offense to you or Metallica (RTL is one of my favorite records) and not to say that Metallica wasn't influential, but you make it sound like thrash-, death-, black-, doom metal etc would not have existed today without Metallica.

      I guess that is the purpose of a demo right lol. You demo the songs then listen to then and that gives you a chance to change lyrics or edit various parts of the song. Your commit would make more sense if this was released as an upcoming single.

    Lars, again, sounds Horrible. He sounds as if he doesn't practice anymore. Very sloppy. His kick drums is the sloppiest work and his hihat work is just awful. You can tell what he wants to do, or thinks that he's doing. But Dude, he is off by an 8th every freaking strike. His rhythm is in permanent staccato and it's not on purpose or it would sound a lot tighter. He's just off. Really off.

    • @SeanMusicFreak
      @SeanMusicFreak Před 10 lety +7

      ***** Even in his prime, Lars was never really all that impressive. Especially when compared to other drummers of the time like Gar Samuelson or Tom Hunting. He was not bad, but he was just okay.

    • @DEFKNIGHT
      @DEFKNIGHT Před 10 lety +14

      SeanMusicFreak I'm gonna have to disagree here with you because in particular ... And Justice for All is a masterful job of drumming and won Lars many an accolade an cover on many magazines. And one day just take a good listen to the beat pattern of the song Master of Puppets. I remember a buddy of mine trying to play it beat for beat and commenting about it not being difficult because of the speed, but because his beats aren't all following the same rhythm pattern you'd typically and instinctively predict and that's besides the fact that they never quite repeat from bar to bar. All of his beats were precise and innovative for what metal was doing at the time, which was against the grain and still is "how fast can you blast beat though!", which is just an asinine criteria for how good a player you are.
      This is besides the fact that Metallica, Exodus, Testament, Morbid Angel, Nuclear Assault, Sepultura and Slayer are the OG blast beat kings.
      Gar Samuelson from Megadeth was... allright. He was a solid backbone but did nothing special for the times. I'd choose Nick Menza before Samuelson.

    • @SeanMusicFreak
      @SeanMusicFreak Před 10 lety +2

      James McClellan Of those bands, only Morbid Angel used blast beats. The others just played fast.
