  • I'm testing the new outdoor security cameras from Eufy. If you're looking for a wireless security camera the S340 might be for you. It's an amazing solar-powered camera. The S340 floodlight camera provides 24/7 recording capability. Both cameras have 360-degree viewing as well as night vision of course so you never miss a thing.

I use the Goggles cameras inside and out of my house. They don't pan they are stationary. Good 4k quality and audio. However, after having them for 3 years now I have decided on my next home I will be going to CCTV. Going to stay away from the wifi. I will use backup battery power on my CCTV cameras so that when I do lose power I will still have my camera coverage and alarms. More expensive I know but 10 times better. Good video man.

Big problem with the Eufy system is, (I have four cams, two floodlights and two doorbells) if one camera in the backyard starts recording it will miss the predator in the front. They don't record at the same time or two events simultaneously. I had to divide the cameras between two bases, one on my account and one on my wife's. So hopefully one of the accounts will capture the event. Also as mentioned in the comments, if the internet goes down, even with a stand alone router, the Eufy system goes down.
Next time I will go with a hard wired system that records 24/7.

When I bought 1 of their cameras at first to see how I liked it I was impressed upon first impression. Of course with it being a new company the price point seemed reasonable I guess. Also I gave it time to work out a few bugs to get better at capturing people. Unfortunately Eufy doesn’t catch everything. It seems at times it catches me better than strangers and even cars that pulled up to my home. I bought a few different ones but in order for me to work around this problem I had other cameras kinda facing in same similar direction for if one didn’t catch the person then one of them will. There has been times when both cameras has been a let down in some cases. I still like the product for what it is but it would seem it would catch vehicles that would travel left to right better than people walking on the street. Eufy local hard drive is what sold me and the decent price point. But I do like the lock unit to the home. I just wish they had a 4K camera. The solar panels seem to last maybe but a few years before it is hazy.

Use a single Eufy facing out to monitor our porch and sidewalk. Any cam that records stores info if you elect to monitor via steaming. They ALL store info on that level. Allowing internal home steaming is electing to allow data storage. Read and understand the info provided.

If you are worried about security, you could hook it up to its own subnet and use a program to see what it talks to, you can then lock it down if needed. Not for the novice, but there are ways to lock things like this down. I’m sure there are simpler ways as well.

I have a 380 base and the S340 and I have to turn OFF one whole side of motion sensor because the road beside my house with a full 6 ft fence can't be used because you don't have any way to get triggering input from car traffic. Reduction in sensing by measurement out from the sensor doesnt really work. I have to rely on the right half yard sensor to pick up movement. Even the privacy ignore doesnt work. I spent hour testing and the ONLY thing that works it disabling the left sensor that takes out half the coverage. Plus, the App is a cluttered Mess and Bloated. It is so so so bloated with 3-4 different sub entry ways to do stuff is 3-4 different ways by what appears to done by different design teams. They did twice the coding needed to get thing done and then the buyer spends time poking around in the Maze of a boated App designed by 3-4 different design teams.

The big problem with Eufy and other cloud cameras just like it. YOU HAVE NO SECURITY because staff at Eufy, Ring, Blink etc can watch your cameras without your permission. The only safe secured camera system is if you get your own self hosted system like NVR/DVR that is not tied to the cloud.

I have an AOSU 360° Solar C9C camera. The camera lacks true security features. The first being a 60 second event recording limit even with a 128GB memory card installed and set up to only record locally(not that local or cloud recording should be a factor in limiting the camera to 60 seconds local max). Imagine it picks up someone hopping your back fence and walking towards your home slowly opps it stops recording / fails to continue to track. or they pace back and forth then begin to walk up to or around your car oops 60 seconds is up. Other times if the subject pauses for a moment, is moving directly toward or away from the camera and even if there is movement across it view the camera just stops recording. This is even for recordings way below the 60 second max. which most recordings are. The camera has no option to force it to continue recording a motion event for the full 60 seconds or for another 5 seconds (or 10 or 20) after it thinks motion has stopped - this is standard on "security cameras". Another standard "security camera" feature is the ability to pre-record. What that means is the camera is buffering a few seconds of what it is looking at (usually 2-5 seconds) and when an event is triggered it uses the pre-recorded video as the beginning of the recorded event. This ability allows you to see what happened before the detector picked up motion (out of range of the motion detector) or if the camera had a detection zone (and a home zone) and you had blocked some swaying branches... As for the home zone it is where you want the camera looking at all the time. Such as your car or front door (the camera does seem to return after tracking to where you had set it to look at but not every time). These features have been available for years on inexpensive ($35 or less) wireless cameras. What made me purchase the camera was the true wireless nature of solar. After 4 cloudy days the camera continued to function. The night vision is ok - if you have street lights around your home turn it off. The lights that can turn on are bright considering. Unfortunately, key security features are missing. I can't state how important it is to be able to increase or record an event in its entirety. But I know this will leave you very frustrated when there is an incident that was partially recorded or missed entirely. I got what I paid for and most unfortunately missed my return window. I will also mention there is not any documentation of its settings and forget about the tech support people offering any explanation of what settings it does have no matter how many times you ask or send examples of missing events. From what I have read all the cameras in this class are the same. Let's call them "Good Luck Cameras" . Good luck getting some usable video when something happens.

3 issues right off after I bought this camera because of your great work in advertising, and it really is a great amazing camera! If not for the built in software spying and defeating programming.
#1 if someone pushes your reset button, it removes all your stored videos, from you but not the Chinese spying company saving all your data which is the big problem # 2, and problem #3 anyone can actually hack your videos if they have the same app. That one might be resolved? But not first 2...?

lol, engineer here too, and I was wondering how many years the batteries will last. I haven't seen anything that says you can replace the Eufy batteries, so once they're toast or barely hold a charge anymore, I'm guessing you just need to replace the entire thing. However, by that time, there'll probably be completely new cameras you'll want anyway, probably using different tech; at minimum faster wifi, better batteries, better lenses etc.

Eufy has had some pretty unethical security practices... they may have been resolved, but for now I don't trust them.

@@Hunterlewis675Eufy (parent company Anker) wasnt using end to end encryption. Which allowed people to access video feeds. That issue was resolved back in January. Some people might be skeptical, or hold a grudge.

@@Hunterlewis675 They claimed the camera stream was encrypted, but it was not. Also, the servers storing the video are located in China, and we all know what kind of a security risk that entails.

I have an issue with all security cameras. I don’t even want to go near houses with the dumb Ring doorbells. And walking into stores and being tracked everywhere is also such a violation. It’s like everyone is looked at as a criminal who needs to be surveilled. Plus, they’ve shown many of these cameras are set to provide various parties with the footage….which is super creepy also. Some, if they don’t change passwords, don’t realize creeps are watching their every move through their newly installed cameras. Then there’s the legal aspect…it’s like anyone with a camera needs to fork over their footage if a neighbor has a crime committed and you may end up being pulled into a courtroom to testify about the footage as well. I don’t know…I’m just saying, cameras are “safe” enough to check on animal activity and such, but for any human activity, I miss the reality where cameras weren’t plastered everywhere. Yes, I understand video footage comes in handy for many things, but generally, as a day to day norm…constant surveillance on the common man makes the person using it seem like someone that shouldn’t be trusted themselves.

I have cameras so if some Troglodyte decides he wants to do something stupid, he gets recorded doing it, stores do it for the same reason obviously. Those not trying to break in or steal have nothing to worry about. I agree some give away data, Eufy being one of them so I would never use them.

Just keep in mind that Eufy servers are located in China, and the cameras are considered a massive security risk. They were also caught lying about the video being encrypted so they couldn't access it (wasn't true), and the cameras do connect to China.
Now, are they going to be interested in the footage of a chicken coop? Probably not. But, if your home is located near a sensitive area like a military base, around DC or other areas, or the cameras are recording the inside of your home, they could easily be using it for nefarious purposes.
There has been an active effort to boot Chinese camera and networking companies out due to the massive security risk they pose. Many of those companies actively fund the Chinese military and any Chinese company has to hand over any data for any reason from any agency in China that demands it.
Just keep in mind that this technology represents a massive security risk from a hostile country that is actively preparing for a war with the USA in the coming years.
