The Isle of Innisfree is a song written by Dick Farrelly. The song is about an Irish emigrant missing home. Farrelly was a policeman from Kells, Co Meath and it is said that he wrote the song during his commute to work on a bus journey from Meath to Dublin where he was stationed. The song famously featured in John Ford’s movie The Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O’ Hara, however it didn’t receive the recognition it deserved when it was overlooked for a mention in the screen credits.
