After spending A LOT of time figuring out the plans and the math for this new Scrappy Build, I'm ready to show you my ideas and get started! My twin brother Mark is starting a Cub build of his own, so I brought him along to talk about his new project and compare the differences from it and Scrappy. If you thought the power-to-weight ratio was crazy on Draco, wait til you see what's next! - Zábava
That's why he's so productive...clones!
I bet they actually are 4 twins and they work in shifts, 2 sets of twins at a time, I'm always impressed by their productivity.
Funny... I was just going to say... Oversized heads... Super packed full of brains.. just love the high energy and enthusiasm coupled with a incredible work ethic... Damn good combination.👌👌🤙🤙.. annnd as always... Thanks for sharing your awesome video 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍
Wes Williams
you just figured that out?
two of the coolest people on the planet.
Kamino was an aquatic planet located in an extragalactic star system that straggled south of the Rishi Maze. It was inhabited by the Kaminoans-a race of tall, elegant beings who were regarded as a mysterious species that tended to keep to themselves. They were also known for their cloning technology which ultimately led to the creation of a clone army for the Galactic (Patey) Republic.
@@syx3s well... Not sure about the 2 coolest... I have to definitely include myself as not only cool... But considered a LEGEND in my field of work and expertise 🤙🤙👌👌🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 just playing with you friend 👍.. thinking about it... YOU are very close to being 82% correct.🇺🇸😛
Dear god there's two of them! Their parents must've had a hard time channeling all that energy!
It's one thing to have money, totally another to have smarts to go with it, these guys are extremely blessed
You guys should design a kit plane.
haha ya... itd be too expensive, this scrap build is gonna cost half a million easy, but more towards a mil
Hell yeah! I would buy one in a second. What to call it? And M&M Kit?
A kit Draco 🤪
This is better than EVERYTHING on tv. No joke. Love you guys. Love the whiteboard stuff too.
Absolutely no comparison to the Shi.... on tv this is real , these guys are extremely intelligent , highly motivated, and aren't politically motivated by some sh.ty political party. How can you even compare ?
this might be my favorite new youtube aviation channel, keep up the good work guys and don't be afraid to get deep into technical stuff!
Exactly!
I MOST DEFINITELY AGREE!!!
You may just be the "Chip Foose" of aviation! Absolutely love the creativity and energy!
...the question is: Is it Fooses? or Feese? ...or is it just Foose. Like, a pair of Foose....or, because they fly, is it a flock of Feese??? hmmmmmmmm
Hey Eric, I think you hit the nail right on the head. Most Definitely!
I'm not a flier, but I love engineering things. I really had no clue just how much a seemingly small design detail in one part of the plane, could impact another part in such a major way. Thanks for the whiteboard explanation, I can only imagine the cited example is just one of a million considerations involved in building a plane. I was totally amazed on the Draco build, look forward to be equally amazed on your latest creation. You guys rock!
It made mi cry, to see how you two interact with each other. So much love and appreciation! What a blessing to have such e relationship!
I love how you guys are so supportive and excited to work together. So Damn cool!
Very inspiring! Loved the information too
Cleetus sent me here 👌 I love the two different concepts, the ideas and "methods of madness"... I've been in the engineering fabrication trade for 28 years, and I'm excited to watch and witness the progress of these amazing machines! 🙏👏👍
I’m so excited to fallow these two builds. Keep up the awesome work guys👍🏻👍🏻.
These guys exude happiness. I love it.
Mike I just can't express enough of how impressed I am by you and by doing a project like this where you start from something nobody would want and by having will, imagination and knowledge you can make it something amazing. Such humbling spirit you have and that is what really makes you! Thank you for taking the time and sharing so much of you life and project with us, it is a trill to follow along and learn.
After 15 minutes in the shop, Mike is now waiting on the FAA paperwork for the first flight of "Scrappy."
Plot twist by the time he got the paperwork he had to refile it as scrappy was further modified into full carbon fibre monster.
FAA have a special stamp for approval for planes refyleing Multiple modifications from Experimental to Extremely Experimental??
❤️🤍💙
I love you guys enthusiasm!! Super excited to see what comes out of your shop!! Keep us posted!!
Just found you guys a few weeks ago. Thanks for your enthusiasm and your effort to get out there and present to the public. It takes effort and time and we appreciate it.
I very much enjoy your videos guys. You, both, are amazing with the relationship you have and the motivation you show with your enthusiasm in all you do. The world would be a better place with many more people like you gentlemen. I will look forward to your videos as the Scrappy project comes to fruition. Enjoy the experience with each other, many other folks will never experience what the two of you have. Thanks guys!!
I've had aviation in my blood from the start...but watching the Draco build helped me realize I have no choice but to build my own plane. Life's been tough since, and I was starting to get a little less motivated. Scrappy couldn't have come at a better time...can't wait to see the finished product!
Addicted to your work ........ grateful for your intelligence and accomplishments shared !
Man I saw draco in the background and got so happy, then I looked at the year.
Watching Scrappy start from a crashed frame to a 600+hp motorcycle hauling badass work of art has been the highlight of the last couple years of my life. You guys actually changed my life because of it. Watching this project made me realize that I want to do this too! So I am now going to school to get my A&P. As well as interning as a mechanic at my local airport.
I've always loved aviation, but it was you, the Patey family, that gave me that final push I needed to do something with my passion. I will be forever grateful for that. Thank you!
The whiteboard is my favorite part, soaking up as much information as I can. Just amazing, thank you for posting these videos Patey twins. Don't ever stop building and sharing your wealth of knowledge.
This is shaping up to be a legendary build. Thanks for letting us be a fly on the wall. I'm already chomping at the bit for the next video. Good luck and God speed !!
Thank you for your smart enthusiasm.
I discovered your videos yesterday and have binged on them, I went to school for aviation and never worked in the field. When I went to school I did it for engineering in the racing industry and every time I flew to an event I thought about what I was missing in my life? I am so glad to have found you, I will start flying myself around again and oddly enough I live one mile from the FBO now.
My brother and I are twins and we're in aviation, both personally and professionally, and we LOVE watching you guys do this.
That suspension is going to be insane looking, I cant wait
I wish that right now I could afford to do some of the stuff these guys do. But just watching and listening to them is so motivating, it reassures me that I can accomplish my biggest goals
Watching this back now. It's kinda crazy how far this build has shifted from the original goal.
I just love the way you guys take ideas and think through them and just make something that's awesome from ideas and nothing super concrete. I just like listening to yous think through things and then bring them to life. you guys rock id love to hang out with yous at some point.
Love your suspension idea your description sounds like a formula 1 suspension. I think its called a bell-crank supension, can't wait to see what you come up with. BTW!
Mark: "on a reasonable budget". Mike: "a whole lot more"
I would like to express my sorrow for your loss of Drako . Watching your and Mark's videos , I actually felt involved in the building . Seeing you accepting full responsibility for the accident under extremely emotional times was incredible . I have been a commercial pilot for many years and after flying 10,000 hours and can tell anyone that Mike and Mark are the genuine items . Very few pilots will admit to doing anything less than perfect and you are helping to reverse that issue . Sorry for rambling on but I felt compelled to encourage you two to keep up the great work and videos . Thanks from Canada for being REAL .
So glad you guys are putting this out for all to see! Super stoked on watching this build series.
YOU TWO ARE FREAKING ME OUT!
They both pull up on another pilot with identical planes one on each side AACCKKK!
It's easy to tell these two apart...Mark's the one with long hair!
I really enjoy these vid's. As a non-pilot (and never will be one, just have OCD and must learn new stuff, plus have always been obsessed/fascinated with planes), I learn so much from Mike. I can go anywhere and learn conventional methods, but I love the out-of-the-box thought processes happening with him (and his brother). They're heart and soul into these machines and their obsession drives my obsession further.
Guys you are CREASE :) Your attitude, energy, passion and PURE FUN OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING (and doing it really well) is GRATE!!! Finger crossed for both of your projects. Your chanel rock!!!
Love your channel ❤️🇺🇸👍🏼!
I’m not a pilot but I like the flying and I like making stuff. These two builds are going to to be awesome to watch.
I do love the videos that include your better looking brother. You two are so lucky to have each other and that you share similar passions.
I was one of the 4 principal builders of the QED II. One of the changes from the original QED was widen the landing gear from 6' to 8' then make the wings an additional foot longer each side. ^The biggest thing was the new engine. I had to re-engineer a new engine mount. The original plane was designed for a 600 HP what Moss and I installed was a Curtiss-Wright R 182O-82A. That scared the hell out of me.
Two weeks before it flew Jim Moss passed away. One year later it flew to Osh-Kosh and won a trophy. I am sure you might have seen it if you where there.
I enjoy the work you and your brother do. You both sound like Jim and I did building planes. I am excited too see how Scrappy turns out also Marks plane.
Tom
Double-trouble, wing-rockin' fresh!
Hell Mike, what do you eat for breakfast? Plutonium?
And we’re off! Good times! Can’t wait for all the stuff we are about to learn. You two guys are so creative and energetic. Happy you are taking us along on the ride.
Your enthusiasm is contagious Mike! Can't wait to follow along and see what you build.
Mark reminds me of a guy that came to speak about ultra light backpacking at an outdoors adventure class I was taking.
This guy was so obssesed with things he could do to lighten his load that I made a joke to the guy that was sitting next to me that I was surprised he hadn't pull all his teeth out.
Can't wait to see this thing built and ya'll and the flying Cowboys have inspired to get my pilots license
Did you go for your PPL? If so hope you're enjoying it!
Love these guys, brains and enthusiasm. Your parents did a great job raising you guys.
I just appreciate both of you for actually explaining some of the genius behind designing and building a plane. That engineering knowledge is so powerful and I wish I had it. It goes beyond planes as you show, you guys build jeeps, filtration systems. Just truly amazing.
Why not join the Super Cubs together, like the Twin Mustang of WW11, have a great track & lifting power.
awesome idea but would run out of the LSA weight regs i imagine
You guys are awesome, definitely have gears turning upstairs! Keep up the excellent work!
You two guys are so amazing... a real example of hard work and dedication... My two grandsons think you guys are the BEST and want to be like you and build.... well.. anything. Thanks guys.
Simply put, great fun guys. Keep up the innovation and keep smiling!
The other solution for nose heavy is a fuse stretch
I might be the minority, but I’d really enjoy a review of the math you used.
Mechanical Engineer here, I very much agree!
@@flyingfencepost same here. :)
fullscalepilot ciunt me in on this minority
Same!
count me in that group as well it would come in handy for my build, they have me considering a parallel valve O-540 for My PA14 based build
Definitely looking forward to the build. You guys are totally awesome for aviation today!
Please keep showing that "millionaires" know how to cut and weld, not just design in a pc! Thanks. Great video!
U guys are builders! Not ONLY designers! Keep it up, we love the technical stuff!
I can't help picturing a flying Bulldog & a JATO powered Butterfly.
Can't wait fellas.
3:23 Mark is gonna be able to shit in the front seat...That is a handsome feature...lol
I coulda used that feature in my Cessna.
Holy crap, that's like a Baja Open Buggy with WINGS. AWESOME!!!! I bet you could land that thing ANYWHERE.
Love what you do and I love how you keep your playlist basic and organized.
I changed the flapper valve in one of my toilets today. Thought I was being productive. SMH...
Chuck Hickl
Puts it in perspective, doesn’t it!🤣
That's funny!
What if I tell you this : you've done more than some men in their entire life ... Dona Dumbf was left a lump bags of money and still managed to bankrupt at some points ..
Hey man am proud of you
Nissan's managed to build a wee little engine that puts out a stunning 400 horsepower with just three cylinders. And at 88 pounds.
and 0 lbs of cool. Think, LS7.
My buddy has a 400 hp rotax in a skidoo. Dont think the motor weighs 90 pounds wet with the blowers hung on.
@@danielanderson2030 Riding my 69 399 TNT in the 70's for inspiration we used to dream, sketch suspension systems, and wonder where the power levels might get to some day. We considered 150HP would be no problem but look at what snowmobiles have morphed into, wheelie ripping monsters that throw rooster tails that would embarrass our snowblower. 400HP you say? Ah beautiful.
this was more fun than I thought it would be to watch. I hope to hear you talk about other planes like this. I may only fly RC but your bush planes inspire me.
So stoked to watch these builds! Watching DRACO come to life was mind blowing almost addictive, waiting for next episode. I'm sure it will be the same for SCRAPPY. Thank You for sharing and bringing it along.
Do anyone else have trouble telling Mark and Mike apart? So what are you calling your two aircraft? Both cannot be called “Scrappy”. Maybe “Scrappy Custom” and “Scrappy Extreme”?
Totally had them around the wrong way during most of the whiteboard section!
How about "Custom Scrap" for Mark's aircraft and "Extremely Scrapped" for MIke's aircraft?
Richard J Fletcher they need name tags.
Snoopy haha! Mark and Mike will have to weigh in. Otherwise this video series is going to get confusing really fast.
@@rjrfletcher2355 I had that same moment of misidentification when the video cut to that part. HA!
Mike, I have a real challenge for you, this stuff is too easy. Gather your considerable imagination and engineering genius and ability to bring together talent. Here it is- design an engine. 150 hp, geared prop for climb, no car conversion, as reliable as a Continental or Lyc and....
$8,000-$10,000. At least 1/2 as expensive as a Rotax. Experimental is fine. Engine innovation always drives airframe innovation.
You will be the Homebuilt Hero.
You Patey guys are awesome! Would love to sit and just listen to you guys in person! Can't wait to see these planes progress and fly!
Love hearing your thinking behind this, and really looking forward to the build(s)!
You two really keep a gear head wanting to see more guys like you two are what makes America special can’t wait to see the finished product
You guys are the best! So positive. So smart. Thanks for sharing with us.
Whuuut? Two Pateys??? How much better can this channel get?
You guys ROCK!!!!
I love this channel, you guys are so inspirational. I wish you would somehow find the time to show us and tell us your full story from childhood through college and all your wonderful adventures for such young, brilliant, fearless guys. Thanks
I just love the cheerful feelings you guys have as if there is no problem in the world
Awesome!!! You guys are something special - thank you for sharing.
Love your enthusiasm! Can’t wait for the result. Good luck to you both👍
Thanks, for sharing really looking forward following builds.
So excited to see scrappy coming to life!!
Heavier motor but more lift, sounds like a solid plan. I cant wait to see how it performs. I hope to design or modify aircraft someday so this series is right up my alley, keep it up guys!
Great to see two brothers working together, wish I could spend more time with mine. Super video, Thanks
What an opportunity you are giving us guys!!
Thank you Mike & Mark!!
I am looking very much forward o watching your ideas come to light!!
Fly Low,,, Fly Safe,,,
G-Man
You guys are AWESOME! Thanks for the inspiration!
I know you guys know your stuff, but don't underestimate the amount of force that landing gear pivot is going to see! There are a lot of cantilevered off-road trucks that have had serious issues with that style pivot! Can't wait to see it hit the whoops!
You guys rock! Thanks so much for sharing these enjoyable videos! Looking forward to seeing Scrappy in Oshkosh!
Heck yeah! Can't wait to see the progress!
This is soooo awesome!!! You guys are so good together, I love how you listed the positives of each others planes and are encouraging people to build what they wanna build! So good, can not wait for the next video!
I am very excited! As I go through A&P school watching these videos are very inspiring!
These are concepts that I've either envisioned and/or experimented with on RC models but to be able to do it on full scale aircraft . . . Wow . . . You guys are awesome.
Mind blow. 2x the positive energy. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to your videos. :)
I love a good build-off and look forward to watching along the way.
So excited for this! thanks for sharing!
Love the insight into the dream, looking forward to the build.
Always wish I had a brother, your comradery is amazing. Can not wait to see these builds progress.
Insane watching this after seeing scrappy at Osh. Incredible to go back to this point where it all began.
Awesome work as always from the amazing Patey brothers! Looking forward to following the build(s).
Following! Cant wait to see how they turn out! Good luck y'all
I watched Mike's Draco build, the guy knows his stuff and can do the work right, I expect nothing less than a great pair of builds from both these guys. Class acts the both of em.
