Some of my work on The Witness. I was responsible for Sets painting, modelling, lighting and Vehicles. BG and Vehicles Modelled and Rendered in Blender
@@oelx0 I'm right, for 25+ was getting better but yet couldn't catch up ;P it's one thing to add tons of features but another thing to make them work for big productions.
@@z_tiger311 bullshit my man. You either do not know any blender artists who do work like these in their portfolio or worse you dont know shit about any of the things u say. Maya has a powerful rendering engine and nothing more. It is slower to model in maya, we see an unintiutive ui and a backwardness from the company that is behind it. Blender is capable of doing anything that maya can do and faster. I would understand your rant about blender being worse if you compared it zbrush for sculpting performance or for texturing tos ubstance but these are anoyher topics. Out of all the programs that you could conpare it to you chose fucking maya
WAIT WHAT?????? you was working on this project? From the entire series this was the best chapter ever!, the graphic design is superb! congratulations man!
Stunning work, mate! Easily one of the more mindblowing shorts in the series and damn there were many, but none seemed to have such a distinct identity and design of its own as much as The Witness. If any of em had to win an award, it'd have to be this and just so it happened that it did win the Emmy, so congrats on that as well! 🎉
My top fave on Love, Death & Robots. I half assumed you had just done work over real actors. Ha. I love the graphic novel, hyperrealism and glitchy look to it all. Thank you!
This is incredible work. Do you have any kind of information on what was done in grading? It almost looks like it was printed on film and scanned back in or something. It has such a realistic, natural texture to it, I've never seen any CG look like this.
Great work! I'm fascinated by the complex clothing animations! Do you maybe know some techniques that were used in Marvelous Designer? I mean for dressing/undressing (from 0:17 onwards).
great work man. what kind of focal length was being used here at 0:33 ? id love to recreate something like this in real life. it looks like a wider lens ( i know its digital but would love to know)
wow the environment at 0:40 is one of my favorites of the short, everytime I see it I'm wondering if the shadows are painted in the basecolor or if they are calculated by Cycles. Anyway, great job
I was mind blown by this episode , how was it made ? is it a paint over a video , digital make up or something ? because a can't believe those micro movements of the caracters are animated or motion captured,, the cloth movement ,, the hair and breast bounces... i mean... is astonishingly real ! :o
Hi, I have a question please, since I love this style, espcially in this episode, what can I study to paint like that? Is it considerable Stylized painting? Thanks!
@@Heavypoly Please do share that workflow of combining 2D printing and 3D modeling together in animation! I believe many people would love to learn and to pay for that.
Men! you and your team just crested a real CGI master piece! I'm still trying to convince my girlfriend that some parts aren't real footage... Pls can you tell her here that they are not? I even tried searching a VFX breakdown Greatings from Colombia
can i ask? was there a real actress that the animation keyed over?I can't find any information on this. I am 100 percent sure there was a real actress the way she moved and the skin, it can't be all animation.
The best short movie of the show, cant believe that was done in our good'ol Blender
lol it's only the matte paintings the Characters,Animation, rendering... all in Maya.
@@z_tiger311 You could be right for all I know but at the very least blender is getting better & better at a crazy speed :p

Props to the awesome detailed sound design too.

Awesome work would love to see 3d assets turn tables or different camera views if you are allowed to share 😅😅👍🏽👍🏽
I LOVE THE WITNESS SO MUCH!!!
Please make a breakdown of this ... This is amazing.
Amazing man! Killer work
Thanks!!
Great work! My favorite, after Zima Blue.
Thanks! I loved Zima Blue too
Stellar work, Vaughan! Sometimes I advertise your Blender course by asking "Have you seen The Witness from LDR?"
This looks so sickening, you’re a legend for this
Weird style.. i love it, what just happend... i love it, do i want more of this.. i love it!
Hey, if you're still interested, check out "Tipping Point", the Watchdogs Legion trailer

Man thats crazy good work.. How long did it take you to finish the short?
Please can you tell us more about how these paintings are projected in a 3d environment
Some insight on how the shaders were setup would be great ...
yeah.. that would be great..
wow the environment at 0:40 is one of my favorites of the short, everytime I see it I'm wondering if the shadows are painted in the basecolor or if they are calculated by Cycles.

everything is painted except for character shading and shadows

It's all animation :)
Are you work with Alberto Mielgo on his film The Windshield Wiper?
No, but alot of the Witness team was involved in that one.
I thought Alberto painted all the backgrounds. Did you work on all of them? Fantastic job btw
Thanks! It was a small team + Alberto. I painted on some of the shots featured here.
That episode was rendered in blender?
These shots (BG) and vehicles were rendered in Blender Cycles. Characters rendered in Arnold
@@Heavypoly if the BG and characters were rendered in two different software's. what about the shadows and reflection
