  • Japan Travel Guide - How to buy train tickets ONLINE directly from the train operator's website?
    A step-by-step COMPLETE GUIDE to help you reserve seats on EXPRESS trains and Bullet trains (SHINKANSEN) in Japan on a website called Eki-net. This is the OFFICIAL TICKET BOOKING website of the JR East company, which is the largest company under the Japan Railways Group (JR). This JR East company operates most of the trains in Tokyo and surrounding areas, and the north east areas of Japan. If you come to Tokyo and you see the green JR, that's the one. The popular Yamanote Line is also operated by this company.
    You can access to this website using your computers or smartphones. The website is available in English and other languages. There’s also an app for this website, but some reason, it didn’t work when I tried it out :) using the website version was ok. it was not the best user-friendly experience, but it got the job done!
    Reserving a seat on express trains or bullet trains helps you AVOID WAITING at ticket counters + SAVE YOUR TIME. And you can buy tickets BEFORE coming to Japan!

    Hi Yoko, your videos are very informative. Have a question for you. I will be traveling from Kyoto to Tokyo on Shinkansen. Which app is more appropriate to use, EX or Eki-net in order to buy a ticket? Is there a discount if you buy the ticket right before the ride (like an hour before) or it requires buying it days in advance?

    Hi, I am starting to plan a trip to Japan for the end of Sept/early Oct.. I am considering either a 14 or 21 day JR Pass. Does the Eki-net app allow me to use that pass to book tickets/seats on JR trains to go north of Tokyo, i.e.: I am thinking of visiting Sendai, Niigata, Sado Island, and maybe a couple other other cities north and then going east, looping back to Tokyo. I looked at the app and am unsure of the passes mentioned.
    Love your videos and best regards!

    • @ONEGOODDREAM

      hi, thank you so much for watching! the Eki-net website cannot be used to reserve seats with the jr pass. here's the reservation website for that, if you buy the jr pass online (it's not available if you buy via sales agencies): www.japanrailpass-reservation.net
      you can also reserve a seat at a ticket machine using the jr pass. here's how: czcams.com/video/DjltyiVnr_w/video.html

    Strange feature of the booking system. It only show routes using express trains, so Shinagawa to Tokai gets limited selection but Shinagawa to Mito a lot more, but one would need to change to a local train for last couple of stops. The web site does not offer that option.

I was able to book Shinkansen tickets and link them to my Suica Card in my Apple Wallet, but have been unable to find a way to link my limited express reservations - for example the Azusa from Matsumoto to Shinjuku - to my Apple Suica card. The only option when I buy the limited express ticket is to get printed tickets. You mention that there is a way to link them - what is that method specifically? And what machine do I need to look for in the station to print out these tickets, if I am unable to link them? Thank you in advance! I am thinking of shipping the bag to Osaka before using the Japan Rail Pass and then from Kyoto to Tokyo or even to the airport.
    I hope there are ways to the airport and it will be more comfortable, but I am afraid of the difficulty and taking my time and instead of my comfort it would be disturbing.

    When I buy the ticket through Eki Net website, we need to state our departure and arrival time. What will happen if I miss my departure time? Like my flight delay and cause I can't reach Tokyo station on time?

    • @ONEGOODDREAM
      @ONEGOODDREAM  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hi, thank you so much for watching!🙏 it depends on the type of the train. some trains allow you to take stand on the train, some allow you to take a seat on non reserved cars, some do not allow even standing on the train if you're late for the train you reserved. it's best to change to another later train on the website if you think you might not be able to make it on time. if you're taking the Narita Express from the airport to Tokyo, maybe you don't need to reserve because it's not so crowded .

    Q. After 1 October i heard the news that the rail pass will be increased to 50,000 yen, my trip is at the beginning of November, I plan in one week to go from Tokyo to Osaka then from Osaka to Kyoto then from Kyoto to Tokyo.
    Is after price increase bad for my itinerary?
    Or are the separate tickets cheaper or more expensive?

    • @ONEGOODDREAM
      @ONEGOODDREAM  Před 9 měsíci +1

      hi, Thank you so much for watching!🙏
      after the price hike, the jr pass may not worth buying if you just do Tokyo-Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo. not to mention that you need to pay extra to get on the Nozomi (the fastest shinkansen), so technically it's more than 50k yen.
      you should check out the updated price and also buy the one off shinkansen tickets from Tokyo-Osaka, Kyoto-Tokyo on the SmartEX app. it's the official app by JR. here's how to use it: czcams.com/video/1HanXXUv6y8/video.html
      from Oct 1, they will have more discount offers for early bookings too.

    Hi, great video, just a quick question, how do you pay for a segment of a journey not covered by the pass?
    E.g JR East Tohoku pass. The journey from Kanazawa to Tokyo.
    Pass covers Sakudaira to Tokyo, but not Kanazawa to Sakudaira
    Do you pay the Kanazawa to Sakudaira segment as a separate single ticket? Do have to exit with the single ticket, and then re-enter using the pass?

    • @ONEGOODDREAM
      @ONEGOODDREAM  Před 11 měsíci

      hi, thanks for watching! yes, for the areas that are not covered by the pass, you need to buy a separate single ticket for that journey. you can exit at your final destination, use the manned gate and show all the tickets/passes to get through. or you can do the exit, re-enter as you said. (often, the exit and re-enter gates are combined though. so it depends on your route)

The dates are blocked after October 6. Is this a system thing where they only show 30 days or is this because of the reported price increase that will take effect on october? I'm just really confused at the moment on whether I should wait until next week to check if the dates I wanna book will be available at the current rate or if it's really unavailable until the price hike takes full effect on october. Hi, the suica card can only pay for basic fare at the ticket gates. for limited trains, you need to buy the limited fare on top of the basic fare. you can buy it at the ticket vending machines at the station, using the suica card to pay for it. you can also use the Japan Travel app together with the Google maps, which breaks down the cost in case of limited trains: czcams.com/video/VFl83UJH0gY/video.html

    Hi Yoko, Thanks for all your vdos. They are very helpful. I will need to travel between Tokyo and Morioka very often soon. Do you suggest me to get shinkansen tickets from Ekinet or Smartex? I don't use iphone and plan to get a physical suica card when I arrive Tokyo. May you suggest how I can integrate the reserved shinkansen tickets in the suica card? Can I do that via Ekinet/Smartex or I need to visit the ticket counter? May you also recommend if I shall choose to fly to Narita or Haneda if I need to catch shinkansen to Morioka right after the arrival? Thank you very much! I will really appreciate if you could help answering these questions!

      Thank you so much for watching!🙏 Morioka is on the Tohoku Shinkansen so the departure stations in Tokyo are either Tokyo Station or Ueno station (not Shinawaga station). You can fly into either Narita or HANEDA Airport really, whatever more convenient for you. obviously Haneda will save you some time and money since it's already in Tokyo. I highly suggest getting shinkansen tickets on Ekinet/SmartEX. I do the same myself and find it extremely good. For Morioka, you buy shinkansen tickets on Ekinet. You can register your IC card number on Ekinet and then link to the shinkansen ticket that you bought. No need to visit a ticket counter. hope this helps..

      Hi, thanks for watching! There isn't a place to put the name. The train tickets do not have the names of passengers on them. So if you want to book a ticket for someone else, ask that person to get an IC card and let you know the number of that IC card, then after you purchase an online ticket, you can link that ticket to that IC card number. After that, just tap the IC card at the gate to board an express train or shinkansen.

    Hello
    Please tell me if I am wrong on how to purchase my transportation during my trip.
    My trip to Japan is two weeks.
    First, Tokyo for 5 days, Osaka for 3 days, Kyoto for 3 days, then back to Tokyo for two days and back to my country after that.
    I plan to book the n'ex tokyo round trip ticket to enter Japan and reach the hotel, then use the suica card for domestic transportation, then the japan rail pass for a week to travel from Tokyo to Osaka, to Kyoto, and then back to Tokyo.
    After returning to Tokyo, I will book a single ticket at a cost of 8,000 yen to go to Mt. Fuji and back.
    What I need is have I achieved what I want or is there a better way?
    I also need clarification, and I apologize for my long post
    Is the suica card better in Osaka and Kyoto, because in fact, I do not know how to travel well there, but my residence is always close to the station, and I have an effective japan Rail Pass at that time
    Finally the best plan to get back to Narita Airport?
    Thank you very much, your account is very useful

    • @ONEGOODDREAM
      @ONEGOODDREAM  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi! Thank you so much for watching!🙏 2-week vacation sounds awesome! one week jr pass for a week to travel from Tokyo to Osaka, to Kyoto is best! avoid exchanging for the jr pass at the airport. you can exchange for it later in Tokyo (Shibuya, Shinjuku, Tokyo Station etc).
      For the latter part of your trip after you get back to Tokyo, consider the Tokyo Wide Pass. it can save you some money. it covers the 2-way tickets to Mt Fuji and also the Narita Express to Narita Airport.
      you can get the Welcome Suica card at the airport. it will help when your jr pass is not in use or not useable. no card is better than others. the card works everywhere in all of Japan. anywhere you see the IC mark, you can use it. just put money to the card a little at a time, just enough to pays for what you need (cuz you won't be able to get a refund once you put money to the card)
      Shipping luggage is really a personal choice. you can ship your luggage to Narita Airport. picking up luggage at the airport does not take a lot of time.
      hope this helps :)
