    Great video, I foresee the plug wires getting damaged from shutting them in the hatch all the time so I plan to run my wires under the plastic bumper and out right by the hitch. That way it's protected and out of sight.

    Great video! I have a 2009 Subaru Outback Wagon. With the use of your video, I was able to install the wiring with ease. I saw the salespersons video that said the wiring was on the passenger side. I ended up taking apart the whole rear passenger side interior just to find out that the wiring is not on this side. Thanks for uploading such an easy to follow video! The only other thing I did was tape down the wire so that it lays flat when reinstall all the pieces.

    This video was a lifesaver. I could tell by the backup lights that the Outback in your video was the same generation as mine. I have a 2008 and I bought the Subaru hitch which comes with the wiring harness and converter box. The instructions that come with the wiring harness clearly indicate that the Outback has its wiring harness on the right side of the vehicle. As hard as I looked there was no wiring harness I could fine. I was about to remove the entire interior panel when I spotted your video, which shows it on the left side. So I opened the left side and there was a harness with pink tape just like you showed! The only thing I did different was to remove the little cover plate in the corner of the panel so I could get it to flex and reach in there better. Thank you so much for posting this. I'd like to add that the Subaru harness has a body plug to replace the one in the bottom of the spare tire well, so it makes a perfect seal. Like I said, if you buy the Subaru hitch, it comes with the harness. Then I stopped at Harbor Freight and got a two inch ball and a trailer wiring tester that shows that the wiring is functioning properly through the harness and converter. Now I can go out and bring back a trailer with confidence that all is well.

      Awesome to hear we could help point you in the right direction to locate the wiring. Good point with the trailer wiring tester to test it and ensure that it is working properly. More important when you don't have the plug and play connector and need to splice your wiring in. Glad to hear it went smoothly for you and hope all went well getting the trailer back to the house. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave us a comment. Don't forget to give the video a thumbs up/ like so it will be easier for other people to find. Thanks.

    Curt makes a really nice package and it's great that Subaru puts the connection in the quarter panel like that! I have one on order and will be installing next week. Very good video!!!

      Yes they do and they go on fairly easy without issues and it is also nice to just have the quick connector for trailer wiring much faster then having to spice and solder and heat shrink each wire. Hopefully your install goes smoothly for you. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave us a comment. Don't forget to give the video a thumbs up. Thanks

    I have a 2000 outback built in 1999. I finally found the R79 Trailer connector wrapped to the cable harness as it came down over the right rear wheel well. Had to pull the paneling off the right side to find it.

    Hey what’s in your “kit” there in your spare tire area? That’s a great idea

    • @TheDIYGuyDOTnet
      @TheDIYGuyDOTnet  Před rokem

      There is a tow strap, ponco, road atlas/ map, ice scraper, rope, bungies, 2x flashlights, emergency blacknet, tire plug kit, and a breaker bar with the lug nut size. Makes it easier to get the lug nuts off rather then using the factory lug wrench. Also carry a Justin Case amzn.to/3XkIWpL , (most of the stuff above with jumper cables and also have a first aid kit.

    Which hitch did you go with? I'm looking at the: Reese Towpower 44581

    • @TheDIYGuyDOTnet
      @TheDIYGuyDOTnet  Před 4 lety

      It was this exact one right here -> amzn.to/2qb4zym Curt MFG. Class 2 Trailer Hitch with the 1-1/4-Inch Receiver. Reese also makes a good hitch. There about the same but that one is a 2" receiver which will allow you to use other 2" Receivers as the 2" is more popular and you may have that size on another vehicle.

    DO NOT DO IT THIS WAY!!!!!!! IT WILL CAUSE A SHORT!!!!! Run the wiring that hooks to the trailer down to the hitch. If it comes out the door will eventually break the wires and create a mess of problems. This cost my brother hundreds and dollars trying to find out why his back lights went out on his subaru

    • @George-kt6gm
      @George-kt6gm Před 6 měsíci

      true.. I usually run mine under the spare tire and out a gromet hole to the under side ot the car and zip tie it to the hitch.. Ive had a few outbacks and never had a problem doing it this way

  • @BobSmith-yq1gb
