    With no context, this looks like a finale and ultimatum of a long running series that spans for over 500-1000 episodes.
    But Gurren Lagann delivered this scene in only 8 episodes something that most shounen anime cannot do without long build-up of characters.

    When you think about his feats, Kamina was actually pretty weak. However, without him being there simply to inspire, push and believe in people, beyond even his death, the entire universe would have stayed subjugated for hundreds of years.

    • @DaRkLoRdZoRc
      @DaRkLoRdZoRc Před 2 lety +27

      It sounds like nonsense, but when you think about it, it becomes not only sensible, but amazingly inspiring.
      "Believe in the Simon who believes in you."
      It completely blows the typical 'believe in yourself' idea out of the water because if it was that easy to just believe in yourself, nobody would ever have confidence issues. If you're scared or uncertain, then saying to believe in yourself is a platitude at best and utterly worthless advice at worst. How can you believe in yourself if you can't convince yourself that you're worth believing in? And what good is it to have some timid coward saying that they believe in you?
      But Kamina's last lesson to Simon forces him to go beyond that. He's not saying to Simon to believe in himself as he is now; he's implanting the idea of a version of Simon that DOES believe in himself. What would that Simon be like? What morals would he have? What would he say and think? What would he *do?* What would he BE? By separating Simon's current self from this potential one, he gives Simon something to strive for that, by definition, *can't* be impossible. That's why, when Simon gets past grieving Kamina and fights Guame, he ends his speech with, "I'm not my Bro: I'm ME!" Because that's the point when he finally comes to understand: All that he can be is himself, so he should be the strongest Simon he can be. He can't be Kamina. But he can be the Simon who learned from Kamina. He can be the Simon that grows to be a taller man than Kamina. He can be the Simon that believes in himself - because that Simon was there all along.

    I've had the time to think about this episode and I came to this conclusion:
    Kamina has the power to stop the doubt of humans, to make them strong; but Simon has the power to bring the best out of someone. Both completed each other, but only 1 person's trait could be brought out. Now that Kamina died, Simon had to inherit that trait and make sure he brought the best out of everyone and kept them strong.
    And at the start of this battle I thought Kamina's behavior was a bit suspicious, but I think Kamina knew what was going to happen that day. His plan of attack, his conversations with everyone and his resolve for that battle; all gave me the idea that he knew, that Kamina himself knew he was going to die there, and he knew Simon would inherit his strength and succeed him.
