Hi everyone! I'm an American from the Northeast (New England). I want to create a watering hole for people who want to discuss, learn and teach about history through CZcams videos which you guys recommend to me through the comment section or over on Discord. Let's be respectful but, just as importantly, not be afraid to question any and everything about historical records in order to give us the most accurate representation of the history of our species and of our planet!

We also leave out a mince pie and a carrot (carrot for the reindeer). A mince pie is an English cultural food. It used to be called mincemeat pie cuz it used to be actual meat but now it’s just fruit. The jar of fruit for the filling u can buy is still called mincemeat tho. The fruit is normally sultanas, raisins, apricots and stuff like that. It’s specifically a Xmas English cultural food. Tastes amazing especially with custard or bandy butter
Yh the alcohol we leave out is either sherry, whiskey or brandy

Without fail, every UK railway station has various Samaritans suicide helpline posters to call if you’re tempted to kill yourself under the train. Always cheers you up on the way to work.
But the train would be late or cancelled. You'd get cold and need a piss.
I am Swedish and a few years back I was in Chicago on a businesstrip. We had a teamday with our US colleagues and after that we went out for dinner, paid by the company. The US boss was very strict on paying for alcohol with the company's money, but he worked for a Swedish company, and my Swedish boss was also there and told him to stop it. So we got free drinks the whole evening 😀

We always left a pint bottle of beer and Christmas mince pies for Father Christmas. We knew he enjoyed it because it was all gone when we got up in the morning, and there were presents under the tree.
I was on a sales training course 30 odd years ago and the sales manager of the company whose product we were training to sell joined us at the end of the 5 day course and made the mistake of putting his card behind the hotel bar. 18 of us took it as a personal challenge. 9 hours later we were drinking Creme de Menthe and Cherry Brandy as everything else had run out. Next morning he got the bill of over £1, 300 and was not amused. NEC D3 team, you know who you are!🤪😆

The thing about the smiley employee on the poster reminds me of the time I went into a Walmart when I was in Los Angeles, and there was this huge banner that said "We love our customers!" it was so cheesy I just burst out laughing and then had the giggles every time one of the employees was friendly. The American friend I was with was not impressed. 🙃
The tradition of putting out stuff for santa predates santa claus. It's a Scandinavian tradition for the "nisse", kinda like gnomes living in your stable and barn helping you with your animals. It's a gift given as a thank you for for all the work they've done as well as a bribe because they could be very vicious if you didn't behave or treated your animals poorly.
So for the original meaning of it it made sense to put out some alcohol and a good meal (porridge is quite common), but when it's just one guy consuming everything he'll probably say no thanks to both cookies and booze after the first 20,000 houses.
So I can do an American accent but it changes as I use it. I usually start with a pretty neutral accent but somehow I always end up with a mix of Boston and Southern drawl.
You might not think such an accent is possible but I assure you, my good man, it is and it is weird.

I am surprised by the painting on the background: it is the 'Treaty of Ghent' where the US were acknowledged by the UK as an independent state. The room where this happened still exists but has not been maintained properly. I know because I'm living in Ghent, Belgium.
I'm not a fan of many comedians but I do like this one. Very good.

As Jack Whitehall says, he's been trying to crack into America, he recorded a role in Frozen - to have his lines cut; he has supporting roles in The Nutcracker and Cinderella (the Netflix version), and a bigger role in Clifford.
He was also in the film jungle cruise with the rock and Emily Blunt.
Also can't forget he was one of the main characters in season 1 of good omens
Just so u know Jack is REALLY REALLY posh that’s why he has that accent. The majority of the country don’t sound like him. That’s why he said in Glasgow he was public enemy number 1. Obvs a lot of Scots don’t like the English but it’s WAY more when it’s a posh one - even us English HATE posh ppl

I found myself living in London in the late 80's. I got a great job and the first day we all went off to the pub for lunch. I was familiar with the American martini lunch, but did not expect what happened that day. After three pints, I was worried about getting back work after getting buzzed off the strong beer. My new co-workers laughed and thought that was cute, as I didn't realize this happens every day! One of them told me: " No worries, we just go back in, shuffle some papers on your desk, then call it a day and go home. Or, go back to the pub! ".
