Filming this video was intense. Even though I pretended to look relaxed as if I was enjoying myself, we actually had to shoot it in 20 intense minutes, as JR East had kindly booked out the entire cabin for us and the other passengers, who got to experience the first class cabin. I was literally running up and down the cabin trying to get the shots and do it justice and all in all it turned out well, but a fun and relaxing shoot it certainly wasn't. Still, incredible seats.

@Adoniya Mirahy It already cost $201.00 one-way to get on that train in the cheapest section. However I just looked it up, it actually $335-$340US for the cost of a Gran Class ticket, even round trip still doesn't cost $750.

When I finally get to Japan (when the borders re-open, and just as importantly, I save up the money) I want to travel by train, rather than flying, to see more of the countryside, and I am debating if I should budget for one leg of the journey to be done in Gran Class, just for the novelty of the experience.

While I haven't ridden GranClass on the Shinkansen, the seats are very similar to JAL's domestic First Class product, which I have experienced. Would be nice to get around to it. When you say $750, where are you getting that from? Because I just looked up on Hyperdia, and it's 39,200 yen for Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto. Unless you're talking about two tickets.

    Now I know I won't.
Don't get me wrong, the carriage was very nice, but definitely not 750$ nice.
It's not just Japan though. First class in Swiss trains too is far too expensive for what it offers. It's really just about status, not comfort.
