hey bro!!! Great point on the gas oil rations to the nitro % of oil comparisons. Yes, people who cant tune kill engines, totally right. And I've only run 30% a couple times, I now stick to 20% only because its cheaper, overall the 20% is adequate on the cost and power levels for me.

But it IS harder on the connecting rod if you're running it very rich. Oil doesn't burn, and more oil takes up more space in the combustion chamber.

I run every single engine I have on 30/9 VP nitro. Even my tiny Kyosho GS11...which is in a nitro blizzard with practically no airflow.
Every single engine still drips unburnt oil, which means there is plenty for lubrication.
Every single engine is tuned to run a full tank, during the summer, and stay under safe spec temperature.
High nitro actually provides more mechanical cooling from the evaporative qualities of the ethanol itself, though the "boom" is more intense and may generate more heat and stress in opposition.
High nitro results in a nice easy combustion, giving you a huge tuning window to go richer.
I was burning up my old engines on 20/15 oil trash, because it had to be sooo leaned out to even run right.

Hey man love the channel@ been a long time viewer. I have a question? I have a new engine, it is a GS Racing r21pbx II .21 7 port non-turbo pIug engine. That was a a mouth full, lol but it says it comes with no plug, but the the $125 engine on ebay comes with a os #7 plug and pink and clear fuel tube, also 1 exhaust gasket, and a throttle pully rod end thingy, lol. It has also has a 3 needle carb and a 7 port sleeve. I ordered a pack of 3 of N4 glow plugs on eBay, no brand, but labled N4... well, the damn threads are wrong. Is this normal? Are there various options on threads? Anyway I guess these are useless for me, and I don't want to even give them away if they will be a problem for someone else? Thanks

It's not the plugs fault if it's only lasting 2 or 3 tanks that's from tuning it too lean all the time and you're eating the plugs if you're good at tuning and know what you're doing a plug should last you a few gallons. Keep in mind the OS 6# 7# 8# Are short plugs not designed for use in Traxxas engines if that's what you're doing it will make it not run or tune properly. If you have a Traxxas you need OS LC3 OR LC4 plugs Nothing else. All other os plugs are incorrect for most engines

I always prefer 30%. The engine runs cooler, idles better, is more crisp, and has some more punch. Some engines do need an extra shim or a colder plug but most don’t, but what seems to be the main reason for that is most European manufacturers get the head clearance as low as possible for 16% or 20%, so when you go run 30% with an ultra hot plug, the tuning window gets super small and the engine becomes very finicky. I’d stick with the same heat range glow plug and add a 0.2mm shim. From my experience, that 0.2mm increase makes the engine run much smoother and tune easier

I had a 9% oil with 20% nitro and a hot plug it ran like a champ on a vx16 redcat motor I switched to a 9% oil and 30% nitro with the same hot plug the tune changed to were I have to tune richer than before but I feel like it's not rich enough if I go with a medium range plug will it help .on the 20% nitro the car came with a medium plug it would foul it fast soon as I went with the hot plug it was night and day tune was great since I changed to the 30% it runs good but not great . Should I try a medium plug again with the %30 will that help ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you .

A medium plug should do just fine with 20 or 30% no need to keep jumping around with different plugs all the time pick what it runs/tunes best with and sick with it
